In fact, this is just an alternative shell for the same VLC, and although it is a little better suited for watching IPTV - the player’s interface is optimized for this task, but the ambush is still the same - you cannot select codecs, moreover, this player even uses libraries not the most latest version VLC. Although functionally it is really more interesting - here you have the ability to separately configure parameters for each channel, and automatic downloading of fresh playlists from your provider’s server, and support for the TV program, and a recording/viewing scheduler, and other “goodies”. So if we consider only these two players, then a specialized IP - TV Player is definitely more convenient.

    ALTERNATIVE

    And yet there is an alternative. If you scour the Internet thoroughly, you can find several more players that are also capable of working with UDP Multicast - from completely primitive to really very good ones.

    For example, FripTV is the simplest to the point of disgrace free program with control based on the use of hot keys. But it already knows how to work with the CoreAVC decoder. However, to do this you need to copy the CoreAVCDecoder. ah directly to the program directory. FripTV does not have any other advantages, but it is worth keeping in mind for cases with very weak computers- perhaps this particular program will require the least resources, thanks to which Full HD video on this hardware will play most smoothly.

Yes, and it is also based on VLC libraries, so you cannot select decoders.     Another program that can work with UDP Multicast is SMPlayer, a cross-platform media player with open source code. And although this program looks very powerful and functional, it is terribly clumsy. Yes, here you can also output H.264 video via CoreAVC, but it is impossible to manually set any other options. Moreover, in our case, 90% of TV channels refused to play at all. For the rest, yes useful functions The player has a lot: customizable subtitles, adjustable audio and subtitle delays, switching video and audio tracks, deinterlacing, post-processing, noise removal, karaoke filter, etc. In general, you can experiment, but I wouldn’t recommend hoping for success with SMPlayer.

    There is another VLC-based player - SimpleTV - a very good free program, perhaps even much more successful than IP - TV Player. The functionality is quite decent, downloading the TV program works perfectly, there is a “picture in picture” function, a convenient settings dialog, nice channel logos are automatically loaded, settings can be saved separately for each channel. In a word, everything is very thoughtful and as convenient as possible, so we strongly recommend that you at least just look at this program in action - perhaps this is your search the best option and will end. At least among the VLC shells, this is definitely the best, although not very well known. And most importantly, here you can disable VLC decoders by setting the program to use system codes. The demultiplexer, however, unlike codecs, can only be selected from those that come with the program - there are four of them. Moreover, everything works quite stably. But the program takes codecs from those installed on your system, so you can set anything you want - be it CoreAVC, or Broadcom, or Cyberlink. You just need to select the most optimal combination of demultiplexer and audio-video codecs for each option.

    Unfortunately, no matter how hard we tried, the Broadcom Crystal HD hardware decoder did not work for HD channels. It worked on normal resolution channels, but for some reason the program crashed on HD. Therefore, I had to use the DivX decoder on the test nettop

Another small problem was with the choice of decoder for AAC sound - here only the DivX AAC decoder worked, CoreAAC did not produce sound. MPEG video played perfectly through the BitcontroL codec. This option offers a choice of several screen resolution options, which will be automatically set for the picture played by the IP-TV Player.

    If you need to take a lot of screenshots, in the player settings, in the “General” tab, you can specify a specific path for saving them. The same path will be used to save video recordings of television broadcasts. Below this setting there is another one - “Container format”, in which you can select from the drop-down list the format of the media container into which video recordings of television broadcasts will be recorded.

    9. Video recording of television broadcasts

    In most cases, for video recording of television broadcasts, it is worth leaving the preset PS media container format. In this case, the output videos will be saved in the universal MPEG video format.

    For video recording of TV broadcasts, there is a red button on the IP-TV Player toolbar that starts recording a TV show on the current TV channel and stops it. But the creators of IP-TV Player went beyond this function and provided the possibility of video recording of several television broadcasts in background. If there is an overlap and your favorite TV shows on different TV channels are broadcast at the same time, one of them can be watched online, and the other (and even several TV shows) can be recorded in the background of the IP-TV Player.

    To do this, on the TV channel being recorded (in the list of channels on the right), you need to call up the context menu, select “Record in background” and set the recording time - a specific period or until the user stops manually. And you can switch to another TV channel or close the player altogether.

    If there are active processes recording television broadcasts, when closed, IP-TV Player will be minimized to the system tray, where it will carry out its work in the background without showing any signs. You can stop recording a TV broadcast (or several TV broadcasts) by calling up the scheduler window. The latter appears when you press the “R” recording icon on the TV channel you are recording. The scheduler can also be called using context menu in the player window.

    10. Increasing cache size

    If you experience stuttering while broadcasting IPTV, you can try to solve the problem by increasing the IP-TV Player cache size. In the “General” tab of the settings, in the last column “Cache (milliseconds)” from the drop-down list you need to select a value greater than the preset one - starting from 1000.
