• Flashing Samsung Android devices using Odin. Odin as the best way to flash an Android device from Samsung

Preamble: By performing firmware at home, you lose the right to warranty service. If problems arise during the firmware, you can render the device inoperable. You carry out all your actions at your own peril and risk.

    Preparation

    Show/Hide text

    • Download the firmware from the topic with firmware for your model
    • Download the flashing program (). It is advisable to choose a newer version.
    • You will need a USB cable
    • Before flashing your phone, charge it. Preferably completely.
    • Check if the device is locked. If it is locked, after flashing the firmware it will not accept your SIM card, even if everything worked before. To check, dial *#7465625#
    • Also, do not forget to save a copy of the Phone Book, SMS and anything else you think is necessary. Regular firmware will not destroy this data, but it doesn’t hurt to be on the safe side. In addition, firmware with wipe and activated re-partition deletes all data to the factory state. The bundled Kies program can save your phone book, SMS and notes. Phonebook, Notes and Calendar can also be synchronized using Google account in the menu of these applications. Other files (music, videos, applications, game completions) can be saved special program, for example, Titanium Backup, but it requires root rights to work
    • Make sure your arms are straight enough 😉

    ATTENTION! The firmware process itself:

    • Launch ODIN3. If the firmware consists of 3-4 files- select them as follows:
PDA- most large file with extension *.tar or *.md5, less often *.smd, keyword CODE
PHONE— the name contains the keyword “MODEM”
C.S.C.— the title contains the keyword “CSC”
      PIT- has *.pit extension
Check mark Re-partition.Note: You can flash any part of the firmware separately. For example, flash only PDA or only CSC, or only MODEM. In this case, the pit file is not used and the re-partition checkbox is unchecked. It should look something like the screenshot:

If the firmware consists of a single file(usually with the extension .tar or .md5), without unpacking it all, insert it into the PDA line. ODIN will sort it out on its own. Leave the Re-partition checkbox ticked inactive. If in the archive with the firmware you find a second file with the extension .dll (for example, SS_DL.dll) - do not touch it. This is a bootloader and if you use it without knowing the matter, you can kill your phone!

Another note: In new versions of ODIN 3, the items look as shown in the picture. Don’t be alarmed, there is a signature on the screenshot especially for you, which item was called what before.

    • Transfer your smartphone to firmware mode ( download mode) : with the phone turned off, hold down 3 keys: Volume rocker down + home button + power off button. An Android with a shovel should appear. Another robot may appear. As a rule, the phone requires confirmation: “To switch to the firmware mode, press the Volume button above, to reboot, press the Volume button below.”

    • Connect your smartphone to your computer and wait until the drivers are installed. Drivers can be installed from the Internet (in modern versions Windows), together with the complete Kies program, or you can download them separately. If the drivers are installed correctly, the small top window in ODIN should turn yellow. If this does not happen, check the drivers.

    • When ODIN3 picked up the phone (the upper small window is yellow), you can safely press Start in ODIN. In this case, the upper left window will inform you which section of the firmware is being written at the moment (PDA, Modem, Hidden, etc.), and the small window below it will indicate the general progress of the firmware. The lower left window contains a log of the work done. If you have any problems while installing the firmware, it is better to copy this log; it can tell a lot to people who understand it.

    • The firmware process takes about 5 minutes. At the same time, the lower left window constantly informs you about what is happening now. If it says Error or Failed, then something went wrong. If the inscription does not change for ten minutes, the program is frozen or blocked by something.
    • When the firmware is finished, the smartphone will reboot itself, the top window in ODIN will turn green with the word PASS! and in the lower window the inscription “ All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)". Only in this case can you disconnect your smartphone from the cable.

    • That's it. Congratulations on the successful firmware upgrade for your little pet! If something goes wrong, reset the battery and start the firmware again.

To know full information about the firmware by typing *#1234# A complete reset occurs when typing *2767*3855#

    Frequently asked questions and difficulties:

    Show/Hide text

Firmware is screwed up(wrong firmware, process interrupted, phone won’t boot, etc.)
Disconnect the cable from the phone, reset the battery, go into download mode and start all over again.

The phone has been flashing for eleven minutes and nothing is happening
Disconnect the phone from the cable and repeat everything from the beginning. Check if your antivirus is blocking your firmware, install the latest version of ODIN3 and check if the firmware file was downloaded correctly.

    Phone is not detected
Remove the drivers and install them again. Install the latest version of ODIN3 as possible.

Which firmware from those presented on the page for my device model suits me?
Any. Absolutely. When flashing different Android versions(for example, 2.2->2.3), it is advisable to first install the full (3-4 files) firmware.

    All about files in firmware
The firmware consists of 4 files. File PDA contains the main part of the firmware - all operating system, menu for the camera, GPS, and other hardware. File MODEM- responsible for telephone functions. In file C.S.C. lie language packs(preset ringtones for your region, etc.). Well, the file. pit— it contains the file system markup. IN full firmware files most often have different indexes. This is fine. Moreover, you yourself can take parts from different firmware and combine them, or flash only some of them. Check mark Re-Partition formats to hell internal memory phone. It is used provided that new firmware complete (contains all 4 files) and we need to radically change the system, freeing ourselves from old glitches. It is also used when a “downgrade” is made - from a newer firmware to an older one. Never use it if the new firmware only contains one file!

Will my information be deleted when flashing?
Not the slightest idea. Sometimes phone book, installed programs and even saves in games remain even with the Re-partition checkbox. Sometimes everything is deleted. Personally, I never found a pattern, so God protects the best - do it backups everything you value is free.

    What is bootloader?
Loader. It boots before the entire system and controls the loading of the OS. He does not take part in the life of the smartphone as such. You can change hundreds of firmwares, but leave the bootloader as factory. Some bootloaders are locked to operators, some firmware require a specific version of the bootloader. Then you can change it. It is highly not recommended to touch it unless necessary, because in case of problems you will not even be able to get into boot mode.

Can I permanently destroy my phone? incorrect firmware?
If you follow the instructions, flashing the firmware using ODIN programs 3 is not dangerous. Even if the phone appears dead, you will be able to enter download mode again and flash another firmware. But there may be cases when more serious damage can be caused to the phone. For example, if you change the bootloader to a non-working one, or during the firmware the electricity goes out, or the USB cable gets pulled out. Therefore, in order to avoid a lengthy trial, Samsung is depriving warranty service if you suspect the use of the ODIN 3 program outside the service center. But even in this case it’s normal service center will be able to restore the phone using a special device. In general, the phone can be irreparably damaged by incorrect firmware, but it’s still not a joke

Follow the guide exactly and you will succeed! Before starting the operation, check that your device is more than half charged!

    2. Boot Samsung into bootloader mode.
    Putting Samsung into bootloader mode
Before connecting the device to the computer and flashing the firmware, you need to boot Samsung in bootloader mode, for this:
    For older Samsung models:

Turn off the smartphone/tablet and press the buttons simultaneously Volume Down and On/Off. We are waiting for the inscription to appear:

    Let's release the buttons.

    For new models from 2011-12.
Turn off the device and press the buttons at the same time Volume Down - Center + On/Off button.

We are waiting for the picture to appear:

Release all buttons and press once Volume Up, it should appear:

    3. Connect your device to computer USB cable. Drivers should be installed if they have not been installed previously.

    4. Launch Odin, if everything was done correctly before, then in the left top corner There will be a yellow window, the device is recognized.

    5. Specify the Odin firmware file. If the firmware is one file, then indicate the path to it in the PDA window:

    If multi-file, then:
PIT file (if any) in the PIT field (click on the PIT button)
File APBOOT_xxxxx.tar.md5 in the Bootloader field (click on the Bootloader button)
File CODE_xxxxx.tar.md5 in the PDA field (click on the PDA button)
File MODEM_xxxxx.tar.md5 in the PHONE field (click on the Phone button)
File CSC_xxxxx.tar.md5 in the CSC field (click on the CSC button)

    reset settings - wipe .

If at Samsung firmware Odin gives an error:

    SetupConnection..
    Can't open the serial(COM) port.
All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

try using another one USB port or computer, repeat the whole process from the beginning.

    If it comes out:

    Added!!
    Enter CS for MD5..
Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
    Please wait..
    MD5 hash value is invalid
    xxxxxxxxxxx.tar.md5 is invalid.
    End...

This means the firmware file is broken and not fully downloaded. Download again, if it doesn’t help, remove the md5 extension from the file and try again.

If you need to flash Samsung only partially, for example you want to flash a modem, then paste the modem firmware file into the Phone field. If you want to flash the kernel or , then specify the file in the PDA field.

Remember that you act at your own peril and risk!

    • Prefix Sony Playstation 3 with official software 3.55 or the version below. Firmware 3.56 and higher are not yet supported.
    • Flash drive or USB hard A disk formatted with the FAT32 file system.

    Preparing for PS3 firmware

Check the software version of the set-top box at the moment. You can do this as follows: go to the PS3 menu in the section “Settings” - “System Settings” - “System Information”. The screen will indicate current version Software of your set-top box.

    1. Installation of the official software update version 3.55.

If you already have firmware 3.55 installed, then proceed to the installation (as I wrote above, consoles with software version 3.56 or higher are not yet flashed).
Make sure that file system the media used (USB HDD or flash drive) is FAT32, if your console “sees” its contents, then the flash drive is already formatted in FAT32. Create a folder in the root of your USB storage device with the name "PS3" and the subfolder "UPDATE" (observing the specified case). Download the archive with the official software update to 3.55, unzip it and copy the official firmware file “PS3UPDAT.PUP” to the previously created PS3/UPDATE directory. Connect the USB flash drive to the Playstation 3 console and select from the menu System update - Update from storage media. The set-top box will update. Once the installation is complete the PS3 will turn off, now turn it on and check the version software — 3.55.

    2. Installation of custom firmware 3.55 kmeaw.

Download custom firmware 3.55 kmeaw and run it. Specify the path to the flash drive, installation will be performed on it. Connect the flash drive to the console. Now you need to completely turn off the power to the Playstation 3 (switch the toggle switch on the back - FAT models, pull out the power cord - Slim models). Turn on the power of the set-top box again. Press and hold the power button of the set-top box until it turns on and turns itself off again (about 30 seconds). Press the button again and hold it until the console beeps short signal twice. After the signal, release the button. The Playstation will boot into recovery mode.
Connect the joystick with a wire, press the “PS” button and select “System update”. Playstation 3 will begin installation custom firmware kmeaw.
After the console completes the update and reboots, two new items should appear in the “Game” menu: "Install package files" And "/app_home/PS3_GAME".

Installing the multiMAN manager to run games on custom firmware.

multiMAN is considered the best manager to run games on custom firmware.
Download multiMAN 2.03.00 and the BDEMU Blu-Ray drive emulator, copy the files to the root of your flash drive and connect it to the Playstation 3. Through the menu "Games" - "Install Package Files" On the console, use the “X” button of the joystick to first set multiMAN, then BDEMU. A drive emulator is necessary because latest version The developer removed the ability to run backups.

Write the games that you will download from torrents to an external drive or flash drive. On external drive create a folder “GAMEZ” in the root, and inside it folders with game code.

Attention! To avoid startup errors, check the correct sequence of folders, since if you add directory subsections to the game path, the game will not start.

How to run the game on custom firmware

Go to the multiMAN manager and press the “X” button on the game - the game image will be mounted and a new icon will appear in the “Game” menu: if any Blu-Ray disc is inserted into the console drive, the game will appear in the disk section, if there is no disc in the drive, in /app_home/ps3_game).

Attention! Not all games come without a disc; some require any Blu-Ray disc in the console drive.

Downgrade on PS3 consoles with firmware 3.56 - 4.46 (firmware rollback)

Downgrade (from English - downgrade)- this is the use of old device software. Downgrade, as an operation with a device, is used to roll back the firmware due to the greater stability of the earlier firmware or the possibility of any manipulations with the device. Owners of a PS3 console with firmware 3.56-4.46 can use a special device - E3 Flasher, which can lower the console firmware, that is, perform a downgrade. E3 Flasher is a special chip that is installed inside the set-top box to provide the ability to roll back to more earlier version firmware, respectively, to install custom.

Downgrading, as a rule, is done to custom firmware 3.55, since this particular firmware is completely hacked. After downgrading to an earlier firmware version, you can install custom firmware Rogero 3.55 v.3.7 or (or Kmeaw 3.55 - instructions in this article).

Conditions under which a PS3 downgrade is possible:

    • The Date Code of the set-top box must be no higher than 1B (this means that the set-top box must be produced no later than the 2nd quarter of 2011). You can view the Date Code on the back of the console. Let's say 9D and 0C are suitable, since the consoles were released in the 4th quarter of 2009 and the 3rd quarter of 2010, respectively. 1C, 1D - no longer suitable (3rd, 4th quarters of 2011). Also, the memory of your PS3 must be NOR type, this is indicated by the following model numbers: CECHH, CECHJ, CECHK, CECHL CECHM, CECHP, CECHQ
    • Your console's factory firmware must be below 3.60.
    • Slim version consoles with model number 3000 cannot be downgraded.

If your PS3 has OFW 3.55(OFW - official version firmware, custom firmware is called CFW), you can flash the console yourself. We will tell you how to do this in this article.

    Check the official software version

Attention! Firmware installation is only possible on OFW 3.55. If you try to flash a console with a later version of the official software, you may get the console bricked!

To find out the official firmware version, in the menu "Settings" of your console, go to the section "System" and select "System Information". Your OFW version will be listed there.

Most likely, the official firmware version will be higher than 3.55. In this case, you need to do a downgrade (we're talking about it).

    OFW Update

If you come across a console with official firmware lower than 3.55 (for example, 3.41), it needs to be updated. It's quite simple.

    To update, download OFW 3.55.

On a flash drive formatted in FAT32, create a PS3 folder. Go to this folder and create an UPDATE folder in it. You need to copy your firmware to this folder.

Please note that the names of both folders must be in upper case (CAPS).

Insert the folder with the firmware into the console. On the menu "Settings" go to "System update" and select "from the carrier". The update will be installed automatically. During this process, you should not touch, much less turn off the console.

    PlayStation 3 firmware

    Installing custom firmware (CFW).

After you have installed the official firmware 3.55 on the console (by updating or downgrading), you can install custom firmware - CFW. One that provides advanced capabilities.

At the moment there are several versions of firmware from different developers. The most popular of them: Rodgero, Darknet, REBUG. There are other firmwares. They all have similar capabilities and provide the same functionality.

Most firmware is suitable for all models with OFW 3.55 (but not all models can be downgraded to version 3.55). However, there are firmware that may not start or freeze on some PS3 models.

Most firmwares are ready-made PS3UPDAT.PUP files, but in some cases you have to create this file yourself according to the instructions included with the firmware.

So, your first task is to choose custom firmware for PlayStation that best suits your model and meets your requirements.

Download the selected firmware from the Internet, check that the firmware file is called PS3UPDAT.PUP and put this file in the PS3/UPDATE folder (UPDATE subfolder in the PS3 folder) on the flash drive. The names of folders and files must be written in capital letters.

Most firmware is installed from a flash drive via XMB, just like official updates. That is, go to the section "System update"(menu "Settings") and update from the media.

If the firmware is not installed in this way (the console displays the message “the most installed new version firmware"), there is a second option - through the mode Recovery.

    installing CFW in Recovery mode

To get into Recovery, press the power button and hold it until the console turns on and turns off again. Then press the power button again. The console will start beeping. When it beeps 2 times in a row, release the button and connect the gamepad via USB cable.

On the gamepad, press the center button. From the list that appears, select « System update» (system update). Wait for the installation to complete and restart your console. Firmware installation is complete.

    Possible problems

At first glance, updating the PlayStation 3 firmware seems like a simple matter. But each version of CFW has its own installation nuances, and when updating the firmware there is always a chance of the console getting bricked.

In addition, it is unlikely that you will have a set-top box with OFW 3.55 or lower. Most likely, newer software will be installed on the console, and you will have to downgrade. As we wrote, it is better to downgrade in a specialized workshop. It’s logical to flash your console there. In this case, the technician will select the CFW version that best suits your model, and you will receive a guarantee for all work.
