• Smart Home System - Xiaomi Mi Smart Home Kit. Xiaomi Mi Smart Home Kit

    About two Xiaomi devices for home automation, and today we’ll get acquainted with the kit Smart Home Suite. It includes a controller, a motion sensor, a door sensor and a button. It is quite difficult to call this a full-fledged home automation system, but there is a chance that the Xiaomi ecosystem will continue to expand and all its devices, including routers and household equipment, will be integrated into it.

    As usual, we note that this product is not officially supplied to our market, does not have documentation translated by the manufacturer, and requires proprietary software for mobile devices that uses Chinese to operate. So its purchase and use are perhaps only interesting to enthusiasts. In addition, this significantly complicates our acquaintance, since we may miss some moments.

    Structurally, the system is a set of sensors operating using the ZigBee protocol and a central multifunctional gateway. It is the latter that connects via a wireless network to the router and through it to the proprietary utility on smartphones and tablets. Certainly, possible options usage depends on the software, and given Xiaomi’s traditional difficulties with the Chinese language, we might have missed something in this article, but what was described was definitely tested and works.

    Scope of delivery

    The set is delivered in a traditional Xiaomi cardboard box with a minimalist design. IN in this case, the domestic user has absolutely nothing to read on it, except, perhaps, only serial number. The box itself is small - about 21x11x7 centimeters (in fact, it could be made even smaller), the cardboard is strong, and there is a special insert for securely fastening all the elements.

    The set includes several devices: a bridge, a window or door opening sensor, a motion sensor and a wireless button. Additionally, the box contains a key for opening cases to replace batteries, a second set of fastening elements made from double-sided adhesive tape and brief instructions (as usual, only on Chinese). All this is packaged in a thin cardboard envelope, which contains a visual description of the system's capabilities.

    The product is designed for indoor use at temperatures from −5 to +40 degrees and relative humidity up to 95%.

    It is not very clear whether these components will be offered separately in the future. This would be a completely logical and expected solution, since the configuration of the premises and the set of tasks to be solved are different for everyone.

    Appearance and design

    The central gateway is a thick “puck” made of white matte plastic with a diameter of eight centimeters. The height of the device is 37 mm, but due to the use of a Chinese version of the plug, domestic users will have to connect it through an adapter, so in reality more space may be required.

    How alternative option, if you plan to work with this system for a long time, you can try changing the socket to a model that supports Chinese plugs. Note that the controller does not have a built-in battery.

    Along the edge there is a strip of matte translucent plastic, behind which multi-color LEDs are installed. They work as an indicator to implement alert and backlight functions. There is also a button that performs several functions: turning the backlight on and off, turning the security mode on and off, connecting new devices to the controller.

    Behind the grille on the front side of the case is the speaker. Its volume may be sufficient for a small apartment, but its effectiveness depends significantly on the installation location. There is also a light sensor behind the grille - automatic illumination in night light mode only works in the dark.

    On back side of the case we see only a grounding plug and passive ventilation grilles. During operation, the bridge heats up slightly.

    Unlike the bridge, the sensors are battery operated. The manufacturer claims a service life of two years. We did not test the kit for very long, so we were not able to see the system’s reaction to a decrease in the battery charge level, and we did not find any indication of this parameter. Unfortunately, the system did not react in any way to removing the battery from the sensors. So it's probably current version The gateway does not monitor the availability of sensors in the software.

    The ZigBee protocol is used to communicate with the gateway. Unfortunately, we were unable to find information about its frequency range in this solution. Most likely, we are talking about either the global 2.4 GHz version or the 784 MHz version used in China. Checking the operating range showed that in urban conditions in open space it is 25-30 meters for all three sensors. It was possible to check only ten meters through a couple of walls in the apartment. This option also worked fine. Let us remember that we use here direct connection sensors to the bridge. The maximum number of sensors on one controller remains unknown, but we can probably talk about several dozen. In terms of responsiveness and reaction speed, there were practically no comments about the product during testing. It is quite possible that several similar controllers with their own sets of sensors can be installed on a home network at once. Considering that the system’s operating scheme involves mainly one-way communication from sensors to actuators, this option (for example, one controller for each room) probably should not cause any particular difficulties.

    The door or window opening sensor consists of two parts and works on the familiar principle of a reed switch and a magnet. The dimensions of the cases, made of white matte plastic, are very small - the main unit is 21 × 41 × 11 mm, the auxiliary unit is 10 × 26 × 9 mm.

    The low weight allowed the manufacturer to offer the only mounting option - on double-sided adhesive strips special form. This, of course, is usually simpler, but I would still like to see a more reliable option with screws.

    The sensor is powered by one CR1632 battery. On the body of the device you can see two holes - behind the one located on the top cover there is an indicator LED, and at the end there is a button for pairing the sensor with the gateway. This model has a stated operating distance of 22 millimeters.

    The motion sensor is also striking in its size - it is a cylinder with a diameter of 30 millimeters and a height of 33 millimeters. The main body also uses white matte plastic. On the front there is a sensor window covered with a matte film. To the left of it is a hidden button for connecting to the base unit.

    It is assumed that the sensor will simply sit on a shelf or other horizontal surface. To do this, it has a rubber ring at the bottom, but the kit also comes with a circle of double-sided adhesive tape. Given that the choice of location is important for this device, we would recommend offering a screw hole option or another method of mounting the sensor on vertical or inclined surfaces.

    Power is supplied from one CR2450 format element. It is installed under the removable bottom of the housing. According to the specification, the operating range of the sensor is up to seven meters when installed at a height of about two meters. Horizontal viewing angle - 170 degrees.

    The last element of the kit is the wireless button. Unlike the two previous sensors, here the manufacturer did not get carried away with miniaturization (diameter is about 50 mm, height is about 14 mm), which is correct from the point of view of ease of use. The body of the button is also made of white matte plastic and also has the manufacturer’s logo on the top.

    There is a sticker on the bottom for fastening, and there is also a hidden button and pairing indicator. The bottom is removed to install the CR2032 battery. Supports detection of single and double button clicks.

    Features and usage

    All work with the system is carried out through the company’s already familiar mobile application Smart Home. There are no options for access through a browser or PC program. In addition, you must have a Xiaomi account to which all devices are linked (you can also create it from the mobile utility). Note that this particular program is also used to update the software built into devices.

    In addition, it is very convenient that the program can work remotely without any settings for routers and other network equipment. This opportunity is provided by Xiaomi proprietary cloud services. True, some users may not like the lack of control over this function.

    The iOS version that existed at the time of writing had a fully functional, although with some flaws, English version of the interface, but had fewer options for customizing the system compared to the version for Android solutions. Let's start reviewing the utility with this version.

    The main page when working with the utility is the first one, on which we see a list of devices in the account and a button for adding new ones. The tested configuration included a MiWiFi mini router, a Smart Home Suite, and the camera and socket discussed in the previous article. In the screenshots you can see the bedside LED lamp, but it is controlled only locally and is not integrated into the automation system in any way. All connected devices are presented on the main screen. At the same time, we see only the controller from the automation system, and the sensors connected to it are configured inside its module.

    When choosing a router in this case, we simply launch the proprietary Mi Router utility, which can be found in the article about this device. It allows you to check the status, manage files, configure some parameters, and control clients. And thanks to the support of plugins, its capabilities expand significantly. At the same time, there is also backward integration with Smart Home. For example, when you select an outlet in the list of clients, you go to Smart Home to control the device.

    The software modules for the socket and video camera were described in the previous article and we will not return to them. We only note that the socket has the ability to independently control the main load and USB output, supports setting a schedule for these outputs. The camera has two-way audio function, motion-based recording and a built-in memory card slot.

    So let's get back to the Smart Home Suite and working with it. When we select the appropriate item, we see large icons of our devices - controller, button, motion sensor and window opening sensor - with additional status labels. If the list is larger, it will probably be possible to scroll through it vertically. Here you can add sensors to the controller.

    When selecting sensors or transducers, the user sees a list of messages from them indicating the time. Among the settings, these devices only have a name change, which will be useful in configurations that go beyond the starter set.

    When we touch the controller icon, we are taken to the menu for setting its parameters (it is also called up by one of the items context menu from the icon in the upper right corner). Here you can select the color and brightness of the built-in light, the volume of the system sound signal and for alarm and doorbell scenarios (this page can be accessed from the icon in the lower left corner of the main screen). In addition, this menu sets the parameters for the scenarios supported by the device.

    The simplest of them is a doorbell. We only had one button, but probably in the case where several such devices are connected, you can select the ones required to run the script. There are few parameters here - selecting the melody and volume of the signal, as well as activating push messages about this event. Note that the signal in this scenario is only audio.

    The second standard function of the controller is to work as a night light with activation by a motion sensor. There are also few parameters here - activation of the mode, the required sensor and the duration of the backlight. In addition, you can turn on the built-in light source of the controller from your smartphone using a button on the main screen.

    The third scenario is using the system as a security alarm. If the corresponding mode is enabled (via the application or by double pressing the controller button), the scheme for processing signals from sensors changes. In this case, the user can select the sensors used in this mode. During the arming interval (about a minute, not configurable), the red backlight on the controller turns on. When triggered, the controller starts flashing red and emits the sound selected in the options beep, and also sends a push message to mobile device. When you open it, you see the name of the triggered sensor and you can reset it and turn off the signals by clicking on the corresponding “I know” button. In this case, the system remains in security mode. You can turn off this mode using exactly the same methods as turning it on. In this case, the user is not asked any additional questions (for example, a PIN code or password).

    Unfortunately, we did not find a log of alarm activation, settings for other types of alerts (for example, by email), integration with a video camera, access control for disarming, and others useful functions. So with this version of the software we can say that the system has only minimal capabilities to work in a security scenario. Additionally, you may notice incorrect timestamps in some fields due to regional time zone settings.

    Unlike the described version for iOS, the program for Android is updated much more often and can offer the user an expanded set of functions. In official stores it is only available in Chinese and, more recently, in English (the translation is incomplete). In this case, the choice of language is carried out based on the regional settings of the smartphone. So if you want to work with Russian versions, you will have to use one of existing options localizations from our compatriots. Note that in the latest versions another nuisance has appeared - the program began to use a modular structure with automatic download the corresponding code for devices installed on the user from the manufacturer’s servers. It is clear that these programs also do not support the Russian language. To correct the situation, you now need to have root access to your smartphone and replace the downloaded modules with alternative versions with translation. As more simple way You can offer to work with previous versions of the utility, but here you may encounter incompatibility with device firmware and the lack of implementation of new features.

    In testing we first tried official apk from the manufacturer's website version 2.6.26 (remember that in Google Play this program does not exist) and setting the smartphone to English. But, unfortunately, there was too much Chinese left in the plugins. So we switched to the localized version after rooting the smartphone. Download all necessary files and you can discuss the utility on the 4PDA forum.

    The main screen of the utility is similar to the described version for the mobile operating system Apple systems- it shows all devices connected to the account. The bottom line contains familiar pictures for going to the store and profile settings.

    In the latter, the functions “Mobile travel log” and “Scenarios” (“Smart scenario”) are of interest. In the first case, we are talking about choosing wireless networks for your home and office, so that the system can create a report about your location. We'll tell you about the scenarios a little later.

    For the camera and socket, the items of the same name on the main screen launch the corresponding modules to control them, which we described in the previous material. A new timer mode has been added for the socket. In it you can set a delay for changing the output state, which allows you to turn the load on or off after a specified time. Note that there can only be one timer for both outputs. As far as we can figure out, this function probably simply adds events to the schedule, which, given the problems of time synchronization (time zones), eliminates the point of using a timer.

    There are also minor changes to the camera settings. As for the router, there is simply one page with a list of clients and a file manager (when connecting a USB drive), as well as calling it proprietary utility Mi Router to get more detailed information and advanced settings.

    At first glance, the automation controller program is similar to the iOS version - the same list of connected devices and three icons at the bottom of the screen. However, in reality, she has more opportunities. In particular, in the settings you can also program alarms by selecting the time, days of the week and alarm.

    In this case, you can use sensor signals to turn off the alarm after it goes off. For the backlight mode, there is now an option to select the operating time. The security scenario can now be activated automatically using a timer. Unfortunately, due to the lack of system time settings, these functions are difficult to use - you have to add five hours to the required parameters. To make things even more confusing, sensor events are shown in logs with the correct local time.

    When you touch the sensor icons, almost identical pages open, differing only in the type of sensor. Here you can change the visible name of the device for ease of identification if there are several models of the same type, place the icon on the main screen of the program or on the desktop for quick access, view the message log, and also configure scenarios. It is the ability to create your own scripts that distinguishes the version of the program for Android from its modification for iOS.

    IN present moment, scenarios provide only one scheme - “if something happened, then do something.” Moreover, there can be only one event and action per rule and there cannot be any additional conditions or timers. The type of messages depends on the sensors; there is also a list of combinations recommended by the manufacturer. Unfortunately, this part of the plugins does not have translation, so perhaps we did not understand the information accurately.

    For a button you can use single and double clicks, for a door sensor - messages about opening and closing, for a motion sensor - motion detection and several options for no movement for a certain time.

    In the recommended rules you can find such options as turning on the light when a door is opened or motion is detected, turning on the air purification system when closed windows or absence of movement, load control with a button.

    Note that the system only partially controls duplication of functions, so it is advisable to independently check whether devices are being used elsewhere.

    As for the actions, everything is quite simple with the socket - turn it on, turn it off and switch separately for the main load and the USB output. The second group of actions concerns the controller as a whole. Again, because of the Chinese language, it is difficult to say definitively about this list. But we were able to determine such options as turning the security mode on and off, controlling the night light and the doorbell signal.

    Once scripts are programmed, they can be quickly turned on and off. However, there is no automation for this process. Checking the socket control circuit from the button showed that it does not require the program to work on the smartphone, but disconnecting the router from the Internet blocked its operation. Of course, this is not a very pleasant moment, but we have already encountered similar solutions, and given modern “cloud” trends, there is no longer any persistent hostility towards it.

    All created rules can be viewed in the corresponding section of your profile. There are also several additional features for processed events (and again here is Chinese...), in particular a virtual button for launching a script from the desktop, work according to a schedule, the onset of darkness (probably from a sensor in the controller), alarm from a video camera.

    Conclusion

    First of all, it is worth noting the main features of the considered solution. Firstly, its documentation, complete software and support is exclusively in Chinese. Of course, you can use translations or figure it out on your own, but, to be honest, this is the reason why this testing really tired us. I wouldn’t want to spend the same amount of effort regularly dealing with new functions in the future. The second point that is worth considering is the strict binding to Xiaomi services And cloud servers. Third, traditional, is sale only in the manufacturer’s home market.

    I really liked the Xiaomi solution from the point of view of design, construction and its own technical parameters. However, the main consumer characteristics are determined by the software. Here we can say that the manufacturer is actively improving this important part of the product, but for many potential buyers it will not be easy to take advantage of this for the reason described above.

    Another advantage is the relatively low cost - the described kit was offered at the time of writing in foreign online stores for about $55-65. Add to this sockets for $15, cameras for $30 - and we see that compared to other similar solutions in the DIY segment, the cost is quite interesting. But it’s very difficult to call this a ready-made kit that works out of the box.

    So, what is a Xiaomi smart home? This is a line of devices that combine into unified system and relieve you from the routine of everyday life. Everything that previously had to be done manually, wasting a lot of time, will now happen automatically. Set it up once and it works all the time.

    The creators of the Xiaomi smart home proceeded from the principle of saving time and effort, developing a single interface for all equipment that can be installed in your home.

    Smart home kit: the future starts today

    A dozen years ago, this kind of thing was only shown in science fiction films. Today, the smart home designed by Xiaomi is becoming a reality for thousands of people around the world. This is what you get in the end:

    - save time, effort and energy;

    - connect and configure devices without the help of specialists;

    - advantageously complement the interior with gadgets with a laconic, stylish design;

    - control the system using a smartphone or computer, including from a distance.

    The capabilities of the system are practically unlimited. Over time, the proprietary application is improved, individual devices and accessories are supplemented with new options, and in addition to this, new products are created that did not exist before.

    Xiaomi Smart Home can do everything you dreamed of

    The engineers of the Chinese corporation continue to actively work to expand the capabilities of their creation. But now the Xiaomi smart home can do a lot. Among the most popular, popular examples:

    - Control gateways, sensors, all equipment and even the doorbell communicate with each other using a wireless network.

    - Separate sensors recognize air temperature, illumination, time of sunset or dawn, the presence of people in the room, open or closed doors, and so on. Any scenario can be associated with these signals.

    - You can find out what happened in the room while you were away using a video camera that shoots video in HD quality.

    - Sensors, cameras and other accessories can be mounted on almost any surface, including windows and doors.

    The kit integrates seamlessly into the power supply system. In practice, this means that you can also control lighting and power supply to sockets using Xiaomi smart devices. Products sold include smart plugs, smart lighting, video cameras and more.

    A lot of time has passed since the time when only oligarchs could afford a Smart Home due to its high cost. Current kits for remote control of several processes in a room are relatively cheap, so that a person with an average income can afford them.

    If you want to automate basic routine processes in your home and not bother with kits that are assembled from several components, pay attention to the Xiaomi Smart Home kit.

    The Chinese company Xiaomi today makes a huge amount of high-quality equipment- from water filters to plasma TVs. It is quite logical that the next step was the production of smart room systems by the company’s specialists. With their help, you can control equipment with just access to the Internet. And operation is ensured thanks to sensors and various triggers.

    Smart Kit Home only required external source nutrition

    When choosing a system, consider complexity:

    • purchases (products sold in China);
    • translation (applications are not fully translated into English, and instructions are usually in Chinese).

    Equipment

    In the box the kit contains:

    • central gateway (hub). It acts as the brain of the entire Smart Home system. It is made of white plastic and is shaped like a washer (8 cm in diameter and 37 mm in height). Please note that due to the presence of a Chinese version of the plug, you will be forced to connect the device using an adapter. The surface of the central gateway contains LEDs of several colors, which act as indicators for a variety of functions. On the surface there is a button responsible for lighting and adjusting the security mode;
    • remote button. It functions as a trigger;
    • CCTV camera;
    • opening sensor equipped with a magnet;
    • motion sensor;
    • Velcro for fixing system components in the right places in the room;
    • a paper clip with which you can reset the system (helps during the setup process).

    The cost of the set is about $70. If necessary, you can purchase the necessary additional sensors. The products are designed for use in rooms whose temperature ranges from -5 to +40 degrees, and the humidity does not exceed 95%.

    Xiaomi Smart Home Suite motion sensor

    There is a possibility that Xiaomi will be able to release the components of the complex separately in the future, since the layout of the premises, as well as the list of tasks facing the device, are different.

    Setup and installation

    Before using the Xiaomi Smart Home Kit system, you need to configure it. The installation algorithm is as follows:

    • download the application from Xiaomi App Store, if you are the owner of Apple products. If you have a device with the Android operating system, you will need to find a similar application in the ARK extension (you will not find this program on Google Play). After downloading and logging into the application, be sure to create an account there - it will definitely be useful to you in the future;
    • connect the central gateway to the Wi-Fi network. To do this, plug the device into a power outlet. When the backlight flashes yellow, this will mean it is possible to insert a new device (any component suitable for a Smart Home). Next, select the new device you are going to connect in the applications and follow the algorithm on the screen. The hub can speak, but it does so in Chinese, so you most likely won’t be able to evaluate its voice work;
    • if you need to adjust the tint of the backlight bulbs, the volume of the central gateway sound, or other parameters, do so using the application;

    Xiaomi Mi Smart Home Suite (Door-window Sensor)

    • After connecting 3 main sensors, you can add several more to the gateway. To do this, you need to select the “add” option in the application. After the screen prompts you, reset the sensor (use the paperclip that comes with the kit and insert it into the corresponding hole). All devices will be connected using the ZigBee HA protocol. This, by the way, does not guarantee compatibility with products from other manufacturers.

    After connecting the necessary Smart Home sensors from the Xiaomi Smart Home Kit, it is completely ready to work.

    Functional

    By default, button click Xiaomi unit The smart home is configured for doorbell mode. The preset settings also include:

    • alarm (will work when windows or doors are opened);
    • alarm clock (you can set the time and other parameters for it);
    • a night light that will also go off when you press a button.

    A review of specialists shows that if you have additional devices Xiaomi you will be able to further automate routine processes. For example, when the window is opened, the air freshener will stop working.. And in the event of an alarm, which is recorded by the alarm system, the CCTV camera recording will automatically start. Since the sockets of the device are controllable, you can conduct quite complex systems in the "Smart Home". They will include many scenarios.

    Installation of Xiaomi smart home sensors

    Setting up any interactions of the Smart Home system is quite simple. To do this, just select the sensor, as well as the trigger responsible for it. Afterwards, attach devices to it that will make them. The only difficulty when setting up system elements is the inscriptions in Chinese.

    The functionality of the system involves sending notifications to a smartphone or tablet via an Internet connection. You will be able to constantly be aware of the situation in your home, for example, if an intrusion into its territory is recorded, or your doorbell rings (regardless of your location). The application saves logs of each sensor. It does possible viewing sensor readings directly in the application. A nice addition to Xiaomi Smart Home is the ability to share system readings with other users (this can be useful, for example, for use by all family members).

    Built-in batteries can last about 2 years. After this they will need replacement. The application, released by the company to work on major operating systems, is updated quite often.

    Usage

    Xiaomi Smart Home - smart home from Xiaomi

    A study of the documentation included with the device showed that the device can be used at a distance of less than 2 meters from the router. In reality, the system works if it is no further than 5 meters from the source of the Internet connection. Also, manipulations with the device’s batteries indicated that this software, unfortunately, does not monitor the availability of sensors, and it is not possible to see how much battery power is left in it.

    A review of the functionality of the device showed that the operating range of each sensor when placed remotely in an open space is up to 30 meters. In the “Smart Home” the range is about 10 meters (subject to the signal passing through 2 walls). The review showed that the maximum number of devices that can be connected to the gateway is several dozen. Apparently, home network can “master” several controllers with a certain set of sensors at once.

    The sensor that detects the opening of doors or windows consists of 2 blocks:

    • main (larger in size);
    • auxiliary

    The developers designed the product so that it stands on any horizontal surface. They provided the possibility of attaching the sensor using the adhesive tape included in the kit, or installing it on a rubber ring. The same can be done with the button responsible for controlling the system. It is wireless, can be hidden, and also has a connection indicator. It is possible to configure double and single clicks on the button.

    Smart Home Kit has a number of nice features

    Control

    It is worth noting that, in addition to applications for the 2 most popular operating systems, there is no other control option (for example, through a desktop PC). You can update the software by downloading updated version applications on a smartphone. The ability to work remotely without setting up routers is provided thanks to cloud services from Xiaomi . The applications themselves have an English-language interface, and the Android application is currently equipped with a large number features than its iOS counterpart.

    In the Xiaomi Smart Home application you will be able to see 3 icons:

    • "devices". Provides viewing information about connected sensors;
    • "shop". This is where the purchase of equipment takes place;
    • "profile". There is a choice Xiaomi account, monitoring connected devices, scrolling through account messages, sending feedback about the application. In addition, you will be able to send data about the operation of the system to other users of the Chinese company’s ecosystem.

    The “Smart Home” system, which involves combining electrical appliances into single network and management of their work, today it is difficult to surprise anyone. But for many this system will seem difficult and impossible.

    But technology does not stand still. Manufacturers are emerging who are ready to challenge established dogmas and present the market with newer and more advanced systems.

    One of these companies is Xiaomi, which has expanded the capabilities of the smart home, making it even more functional and simple.

    Below we will consider what the smart home system from Xiaomi is, what elements it consists of, and what principles are used to build the network.

    What is a Smart Home?

    “Smart Home” is a system for controlling equipment in a person’s place of residence, which provides comfort, safety and energy saving with limited participation of the owner.

    Over the years, once unique technologies have become widely used. If previously motion sensors were used only in security systems, today they are even installed in entrances (to turn on the lights).

    A modern Smart Home system must promptly identify and respond to force majeure situations. So, if a leak occurs, a command is given to shut off the water. Has an intruder entered your apartment? The alarm goes off and the police are called. Do you smell gas? The system issues a command to close the gas tap.

    This list can be continued for a long time. The point is that major decisions are made automatically, without human intervention.

    The design of the Smart Home system occurs during the construction process or during major renovations of the building. The cost of the equipment is substantial, so the costs of setting up the system are appropriate.

    But there are solutions that can reduce the cost of solving a problem, for example, or the system described below.

    What is a Xiaomi smart home?

    The main advantage of the Xiaomi Smart Home series smart home is that it is controlled using a smartphone. This is due to the presence of communication with the head unit via Wi-Fi.

    Moreover, during the setup process, the system is “linked” to the user’s account, which allows you to control it remotely - from any place where there is Internet access.

    The second advantage is the ability to add a group of devices that are sold separately from each other. As an example, a surveillance camera, lamps, smart socket and other equipment.

    The Xiaomi Smart Home kit includes a group master device (gateway), which monitors the following aspects using sensors:

    • Movement;
    • Door position;
    • Switch positions and so on.

    Options

    When assembling the Smart Home system, it is worth considering that there are three configuration options:

    • Basic;
    • Smart Home;
    • Individual, with additional control bodies.

    Let's look at the main options.

    The basic package includes:

    • Main controller;
    • Sensor for opening and closing doors, as well as movement;
    • Universal button.

    The manufacturer positions the set as a home alarm kit.

    The Xiaomi Smart Home kit includes the following elements:

    • A multifunctional gateway that can additionally be used as an online radio or night light. Even with unstable Wi-Fi connection the device performs its functions.
    • A door and window sensor is a product that reacts online to opening or closing;
    • (ZigBee version).
    • Motion sensor.

    If desired, the user has the right to supplement existing devices with additional monitoring bodies and devices. To expand the functionality, you can purchase the following elements:

    • Temperature and humidity sensor;

    For example, on weekdays you can set the alarm to turn on after leaving for work and turn it off 3-5 minutes before returning. If no movement of the protected object is detected within a certain time, the alarm is activated again.

    For convenience, you should configure the buttons for quick access, and then use them to control the Xiaomi Smart Home without logging into the application.

    For example, when approaching an apartment, you can activate a preset mode, which involves turning off the alarm, turning on the lights and activating the main devices. For convenience, it is worth providing access to other residents of the apartment.

    Pros

    The advantages of the Xiaomi Smart Home smart home system include:

    • Benefit in price. Essentially, the smart button is given as a gift;
    • Availability included necessary devices;
    • Ease of installation;
    • Large selection of scenarios;
    • Convenience;
    • Reliability.

    The main drawback is the lack of translation of the application, which leads to difficulties when setting up scripts. In addition, when buying Xiaomi Smart Home you get a closed system that works only with Xiaomi.
