How to burn a LiveCD image to a USB flash drive

In general, there are hundreds of bootable LiveCD images on the Internet: all kinds of antiviruses, Winodws, Linux, etc. And it would be nice to have at least 1-2 such images on a flash drive (otherwise something might happen...). In my example below, I will show how to write the following images:

2. Active Boot- one of the best emergency LiveCD, allows you to recover lost files on the disk, reset your password in Windows, check the disk, make backup copy. Can be used even on a PC that does not have Windows OS on the HDD.

1) Rufus

A very small utility that allows you to easily and quickly record Bootable USB disks and flash drives. By the way, it is very convenient to use: there is nothing superfluous.

Recording settings:

• Insert the flash drive into the USB port and specify it;
• Partition scheme and type system device: MBR for computers with BIOS or UEFI (choose your option, in most cases you can use it as in my example);
• Next, indicate boot image ISO (I specified an image from DrWeb), which needs to be written to a flash drive;
• Check the boxes next to the following items: quick formatting(caution: it will delete all data on the flash drive); create a boot disk; create an extended label and device icon;
• And the last thing: press the start button...

The image recording time depends on the size of the image being recorded and the speed of the USB port. The image from DrWeb is not so large, so its recording lasts on average 3-5 minutes.

If Rufus does not suit you for some reason, you can use another utility: WinSetupFromUSB (by the way, one of the best of its kind). It allows you to write to a flash drive not only Bootable LiveCDs, but also create a multi-boot flash drive with different versions Windows!

How to configure BIOS to boot from LiveCD

In general, setting up the BIOS for booting from a LiveCD is no different from what is done for Windows installations. Basically you need to do one thing: edit BOOT section(in some cases 2 sections*, see links above).

When you enter the BIOS in the BOOT section, change the boot queue as shown in photo No. 1 (see just below in the article). The idea is to have the download queue start with USB disk, and only behind it was the HDD on which you have the OS installed.

The main problems arise, as a rule, due to: low-quality image for recording (use only original Bootable ISOs from the developers); when the image becomes outdated (it cannot recognize new equipment and the download freezes); at incorrect setting BIOS or image recording.
