    In order to install Live Windows XP CD, you must correctly write it to a USB flash drive. Recommended storage capacity is 8 GB. After this, you need to create a flash drive with this application, then install GRUB4DOS. After this, you need to copy the pre-downloaded assembly to the drive and use all the functional Live features Windows XP SP3.
    In this case, the speed at which recording and subsequent installation will be carried out is directly determined both by the characteristics of the drive itself and by the characteristics of the PC and port. For example, the most simple flash drives copies take a few minutes, while the devices top quality They can do it in a minute.

    Live CD is an operating system that can be booted from any type of media. Such a system is not installed on hard drive. Most often, such disks are used to resuscitate a computer when the installed operating system refuses to boot.

    It is important to consider that live SD can contain any operating system. Most often users use OS Windows family. To boot from a “live disk”, you need to restart the computer and install the system media.

  • Computer resuscitation;
  • Studying the capabilities of any OS;
  • Cleaning the system folder;
  • Removing drivers that caused BSOD;
  • Export driver from any OS;
  • Analysis of installed and uninstallation of unnecessary updates;
  • Ability to launch specialized tools;
  • Ability to work with the network;
  • Checking the system for viruses.
  • Advantages

    Live CD has a number of advantages over a conventional operating system. First of all, it should be noted that it is possible to boot on absolutely any computer, even if the installed OS is damaged. This makes it possible to copy or move important documents to a safe place.

    A tool such as LiveCD allows you to revive an installed operating system. This importance comes from having built-in tools. For example, Acronis and similar programs. The only thing to keep in mind is that some tools require learning and inexperienced users It's better not to use them.

    Most life SD can be fully loaded into RAM. This increases the speed of the operating system and installed programs. For the operating system to load into RAM, its size must be small. In this case, the amount of RAM should be several times larger than the size of the Live CD. That's why on weak computers better load the operating room Windows system XP or 7.

    Another advantage of LiveCD is the ability to work on a computer that does not have hard drive or a small hard drive. It should also be noted that with the help of one Liv disk you can boot on any machine without fear that the installed OS will be damaged. In addition, life SD automatically detects everything after loading installed devices, such as printers, modems, etc.

    Ease of use can be considered another plus. The disc must be downloaded from the Internet and then burned to CD. After this, you can reboot the machine and boot from the LiveCD. It should be noted that the navigation of most “live disks” is Russian, so there will be no difficulties in managing it.

    Flaws

    Unfortunately, LiveCD has not only advantages, but also disadvantages. The main disadvantage is the storage of operating system settings and data written to disk. To save changes and settings you have to use additional media. For example, a USB drive.

    One more serious drawback can be considered rapid wear of a CD or DVD. Even with careful storage and use, scratches and cracks will sooner or later appear on the surface of the disc. If damaged, booting from the “live disk” will not work.

    Many users consider LiveCD loading speed to be a disadvantage. This is due to the fact that the operating system written to the disk is loaded into RAM and also configures the configurations of the hardware used.

    Burning an image to disk

    Before booting from a live disk, users need to burn the image to a CD or DVD disc. It all depends on the size of the operating system. First, it is recommended to install a program that allows you to record images.

    Despite the fact that there is a huge number free applications, it is recommended to consider Astroburn Lite. The utility can be downloaded for free from the website “http://www.astroburn.com/rus/home”. The advantage of this program is that it takes up virtually no disk space.

    After starting the program, you need to go to the “Image” tab. When the tab opens, you must perform the following steps in sequence:

    1. Select LiveCD or LiveDVD image.
    2. Change the recording speed (it is best to choose the minimum speed).
    3. Select a device intended for recording discs.
    4. Press the button to record.

    Once the disc has been burned and checked for errors, it is recommended to restart the computer and boot from the “live disc”.

    Recording a "live disc" to a USB drive

    Sometimes users encounter such a problem as the absence of a DVD-ROM in their computer. This means that on normal Live disk You won't be able to burn a CD. There is no need to be upset, because a boot disk can be made from a USB drive.

    To create a boot disk you will need program WInSetupFromUSB. It is best to download the program from the official website located at “http://www.winsetupfromusb.com/downloads/”.

    After installing and launching the application, you must sequentially perform the following steps:

    1. Select a USB drive for recording a “live disc”.
    2. If you are creating a boot disk for the first time, you should check the box next to the “Auto format it with FBinst” field.
    3. Select the type of image to be written to the USB disk.
    4. Press the “GO” button to create the disc.

    After this, a bootable USB flash drive will be created in a few minutes.

    Loading a "live disk"

    Before booting from the disk, you need to configure the BIOS. To do this, you need to enable the ability to boot from a disk or USB drive. This can be done by setting the appropriate changes. Each BIOS configures things differently. While booting from the disk, a window will appear in which you need to select the required action.

    In a few minutes the operating system will load. It should be noted that externally it does not differ from the OS installed on the computer. The difference can only be in the system version. Users can boot from any existing Windows operating system.

    It should be noted that the Live CD contains all the programs necessary for operation. After the system starts, you can enter the start menu, and then select the program of interest. All devices connected to the computer will be automatically detected by the system.

    With Live Disk, users can work in the same way as on installed system. The only thing worth remembering is that all changes to settings and documents will have to be saved to an additional storage medium.

    Conclusion

    Booting from a live disk solves many problems. First of all similar systems used to restore computer functionality. It is enough to use the tools downloaded to the disk, and the operating system will be restored. In addition, thanks to live SD, you can explore the capabilities of any operating system.

    It should be noted that there are a huge number of live CD and DVD builds. Therefore, you need to download the image according to your needs. It is worth noting that “live disks” can contain not only operating systems, but also specialized programs, such as Acronis.

    Video review of Live CD

    Having a flash drive with a LiveCD can be very handy when Windows refuses to work. Such a device will help cure your computer of viruses, carry out comprehensive diagnostics of faults and solve a lot of different problems - it all depends on the set of programs in the image. We will look further at how to properly write it to a USB drive.

    First, you need to correctly download the emergency LiveCD image. Typically, links to a file are offered for writing to a disk or flash drive. Accordingly, you need the second option. Using Dr.Web LiveDisk as an example, it looks like the photo below.

    It is not enough to just throw the downloaded image on removable media. It must be written through one of special programs. We will use the following software for these purposes:

    The utilities listed should work well for everyone current versions Windows.

    Method 1: LinuxLive USB Creator

    All inscriptions in Russian and an unusual bright interface, along with ease of use, make this program good candidate For Live recordings CD to flash drive.

    To use this tool, do this:

    In some blocks there is a traffic light as a “prompter”, the green light of which indicates the correctness of the specified parameters.

    Method 2: MultiBoot USB

    One of the simplest methods for creating bootable flash drive assumes the use of this utility. Instructions for its use are as follows:

    Depending on the size of the image, the procedure may take longer. The recording progress can be observed on the status scale, which is also very convenient

    Method 3: Rufus

    This program is devoid of all frills, and all settings are done in one window. You can see this for yourself if you follow a number of simple steps:

    A filled scale will indicate the end of the recording. At the same time, new files will appear on the flash drive.

    Method 4: UltraISO

    This program is a reliable tool for burning images to discs and creating bootable flash drives. It is one of the most popular for completing the task. To use UltraISO, do the following:

    Good afternoon.

    When restoring Windows OS to a working state, you often have to use a LiveCD (a so-called bootable CD or flash drive, which allows you to load an antivirus or even Windows from the same disk or flash drive. That is, to work on a PC, you don’t need to install anything on the hard drive, just boot from such a disk).

    A LiveCD is often needed when Windows refuses to boot (for example, when viral infection: A banner has popped up on the entire desktop and is preventing me from working. You can reinstall Windows, or you can boot from the LiveCD and delete it). We’ll look at how to burn such a LiveCD image to a flash drive in this article.

    How to burn a LiveCD image to a USB flash drive

    In general, there are hundreds of bootable LiveCD images on the Internet: all kinds of antiviruses, Winodws, Linux, etc. And it would be nice to have at least 1-2 such images on a flash drive (otherwise something might happen...). In my example below, I will show how to write the following images:

    1. LiveCD from DRWEB - the most popular antivirus, will allow you to check your HDD even if the main Windows OS refuses to boot. Download ISO image possible on the official website;
    2. Active Boot- one of the best emergency LiveCD, allows you to recover lost files on the disk, reset your password in Windows, check the disk, make backup copy. Can be used even on a PC that does not have Windows OS on the HDD.

    1) Rufus

    A very small utility that allows you to easily and quickly record Bootable USB disks and flash drives. By the way, it is very convenient to use: there is nothing superfluous.

    Recording settings:

    • Insert the flash drive into the USB port and specify it;
    • Partition scheme and type system device: MBR for computers with BIOS or UEFI (choose your option, in most cases you can use it as in my example);
    • Next, indicate boot image ISO (I specified an image from DrWeb), which needs to be written to a flash drive;
    • Check the boxes next to the following items: quick formatting(caution: it will delete all data on the flash drive); create a boot disk; create an extended label and device icon;
    • And the last thing: press the start button...

    The image recording time depends on the size of the image being recorded and the speed of the USB port. The image from DrWeb is not so large, so its recording lasts on average 3-5 minutes.

    If Rufus does not suit you for some reason, you can use another utility: WinSetupFromUSB (by the way, one of the best of its kind). It allows you to write to a flash drive not only Bootable LiveCDs, but also create a multi-boot flash drive with different versions Windows!

    How to configure BIOS to boot from LiveCD

    In order not to repeat myself, I will give a couple of links that may be useful:

    • Keys to enter the BIOS, how to enter it:
    • BIOS settings for booting from a flash drive:

    In general, setting up the BIOS for booting from a LiveCD is no different from what is done for Windows installations. Basically you need to do one thing: edit BOOT section(in some cases 2 sections*, see links above).

    When you enter the BIOS in the BOOT section, change the boot queue as shown in photo No. 1 (see just below in the article). The idea is to have the download queue start with USB disk, and only behind it was the HDD on which you have the OS installed.

    Photo No. 1: BOOT section in BIOS.

    Photo No. 2: saving settings in the BIOS and exiting them to restart the PC.

    Examples of work

    If the BIOS is configured correctly and the flash drive is written without errors, then after rebooting the computer (laptop) with the flash drive inserted into the USB port, booting should begin from it. By the way, please note that by default many bootloaders give 10-15 seconds. that you agree to download from USB flash drives, otherwise they will default to loading your installed Windows OS...

    Photo #5: Active Boot Disk is loaded - you can get to work.

    That's actually all there is to creating a bootable flash drive from a LiveCD - nothing complicated... The main problems arise, as a rule, due to: low-quality image for recording (use only original Bootable ISOs from the developers); when the image becomes outdated (it cannot recognize new equipment and the download freezes); at incorrect setting BIOS or image recording.

    Happy downloading!
