• How to burn a Windows Live CD to a USB flash drive. How to create a bootable Live CD yourself

    Very often when correcting various errors, I recommend burning some LiveCD to a flash drive or disk. But, unfortunately, I missed one point that not all of our dear readers know how to write such an image onto a flash drive since few people use disks anymore. I’m sure that some people don’t even have a CD drive, let alone the discs themselves.

    I only realized my mistake at the moment when they started bombarding me with comments asking how to burn a LiveCD to a flash drive. Therefore, having realized my jamb, I present to you several ways to create a bootable flash drive with any LiveCD image.

    Besides the usual way recording an image on a flash drive, I will also show you how you can write several of them onto one USB device and make it not just a bootable flash drive, but a multi-boot one, with several versions of the same LivrCD.

    Create a bootable USB flash drive from LiveCD using UltraISO

    In the first way, of course, I will describe my favorite option for recording images on flash drives, which I use most often.

    I do this with the help UltraISO programs. Why this option?

    Probably because this program installed on my computer and always at hand, and the recording process consists of just a few steps.

    By the way, this method almost no different from creating a bootable USB flash drive with Windwos OS.

    Before we start recording to a flash drive, we need to download and install UltraISO, prepare a USB drive and, of course, download the image from LiveCD.

    Ok, after installing the program, run it, after which we will be taken to the main window of the UltraISO interface. Here we should use the menu, which is located at the top in the form of a line and select the following items: “ File» — « Open" Next, select the image from the LiveCD and click “ OK ».

    After completing this action, an unpacked image should appear on the right side, this is exactly what we need.

    Returning to the main menu again, select "Recording an image hard drive».

    On next stage select the USB flash drive as the location for recording the image and set the parameter "USB-HDD+".

    By the way, do not forget that when you start recording, your flash drive will be formatted, so do not forget to take care of your files that may be stored on the flash drive.

    In general, to create a bootable flash drive we only have to click on the button "Record", confirm formatting before burning and wait for the LiveCD files to finish loading onto your flash drive.

    Upon completion, a notification should appear that all files were successfully copied to the drive. By clicking " OK", remove the USB drive and try to boot from it, in principle everything should be OK.

    Another way to burn a LiveCD image to a USB flash drive

    In the second method, we will use another familiar utility called WinSetupFromUSB. I remember that it is also very often used when creating bootable flash drives with the same Windows.

    But this time I will show you how it is not windows that need to be burned, but some kind of LiveCD.

    I think it’s clear that you first need to download the utility to your computer and run it from the folder in which it was saved. To download, you can use the website of its developer. I would like to note that after downloading there will be two versions available for 32 and 64 bit, select the one that will suit your system and launch it.

    So, in the interface that opens, select the following parameters:

    • In the very first field, select the flash drive on which the image from the Live CD will be written;
    • Check the box " Auto format it with FBinst »;
    • "NTFS" ;
    • Going a little lower, mark the item “ Linux ISO/Other Grub4dos compatible ISO »;

    Ok, now by clicking on the button with three dots on it, an explorer window will appear where you should select the image that will be recorded.

    Having opened the image, we will be asked to provide a name for boot menu or leave the one that was generated automatically.

    Returning to the main window of the WinSetupFromUSB interface, we begin creating a flash drive from LiveCD by clicking on the button "GO".

    How to burn a multiboot flash drive from a LiveCD

    And finally, as I promised, for burning a multiboot flash drive with several versions of a Live CD.

    Again, run WinSetupFromUSB. In the main window, select our flash drive and don’t mark anything else, as it is already bootable and even has one of the ones you need already written on it Live versions CD. In general, we immediately go to the fourth point, mark it and press the three dots.

    Now select the image with the second version of LiveCD.

    We indicate the name so that in the future you can distinguish the images you recorded.

    Click again "GO" and let's go make some tea while we go through the process of writing files to a flash drive.

    In general, I think two options for burning a Live CD image onto a flash drive will be enough. If not, write in the comments and I will definitely add a few more options, but it seems to me that this will be enough for you to achieve this goal.

    I hope I was able to answer your many questions about how to create a bootable USB flash drive from a LiveCD. If not, write to me in the comments or in our VK group. Well, don’t forget to subscribe to our Inforkomp channel on Youtube.

    Greetings, dear readers! Today I decided to write detailed instructions for working with Dr.Web LiveCD boot disk. I'll tell you what it is, where to download it, how to run it and what you can do with it very useful disk from Dr.Web.

    I will try to describe everything so that it is clear to the average user, because LiveCD from Dr.Web is a tool with which you can independently repair your computer from most system errors.

    What is Dr.Web LiveCD?

    The company Dr.Web, which is known to everyone for its anti-virus programs, has created boot disk, and completely free. On this boot disk the developers have placed a lot useful functions, but of course, if it was created by an antivirus company, then, first of all, it is valuable for the presence of an antivirus program that can be launched from a boot disk or flash drive. And scanning your computer without even loading the operating system is very good when fighting ransomware viruses that completely block access to the operating system. There is another equally useful one on the disk. file manager, Internet Mozilla browser, terminal and mail client. More details about everything later.

    Where can I download Dr.Web LiveCD?

    You can download the boot disk image on the product page from the official website. Go to and click on the link.
    Will open license agreement, be sure to read and click on the button, which means that it can be burned to a CD, so prepare the disc first.

    How to burn a boot disk or flash drive from a LiveCD from Dr.Web?

    When our disk image is downloaded to the computer, we will need to burn it to a CD or DVD disc, it doesn't matter. I already wrote about that, I advise you to do it with a program Ultra ISO it can be downloaded on the Internet without any problems.

    After its installation, it is integrated into the system, and when double click mouse on the image we downloaded, it will immediately open in this program, all you have to do is click burn and in a couple of minutes, our LiveCD will be ready.

    When our bootable LiveCD ready, you can boot your computer from it. Most likely, your default BIOS is to boot from the hard drive first and then from DVD drive And USB media. We need to fix this so that the computer boots from DVD or USB first.

    To do this, you need to do everything as written in the article. Now you can insert our disk into the drive and restart the computer, if you did everything correctly, you will see this:

    Here we select the first item (this is full graphic mode) and press “Enter”. If the disk does not want to start in this mode, then select the second item and try to start it. There are also two more points. Start Local HDD is a continuation of booting from the hard drive, and Testing Memory is a test of RAM for errors.

    We wait a little until we see the fully loaded Dr.Web LiveCD desktop. A scanner window will immediately appear there, but I closed it to show what the desktop itself looks like.

    As you can see, everything is very clear, but for convenience you need to change the language to Russian. We do this: click “Start” (green spider in the left corner) and click “Exit”. Select “Select Language” then click “Russian”.

    And to return to the desktop, click “Graphic mode”. Everything is now our desktop in Russian. This completes the downloading of Dr.Web LiveCD, you can start working.

    How to work with Dr.Web LiveCD?

    As you can see, the boot disk from Dr.Web has a very simple and intuitive interface. But still, let's briefly look at each of the utilities.

    Dr.Web Control Center

    This is the built-in antivirus scanner, with which you can scan your computer for viruses. Very often this scanner even finds viruses that prevent the operating system from loading Windows system, among them ransomware viruses.

    From here you can easily run a computer scan, view reports or quarantine.

    Terminal

    This is a common utility that will allow you to work with command line, and perform the operations we need.

    Mozilla browser

    The built-in browser will help you find a solution to the problem. You can also, for example, visit the sites of anti-virus programs, VKontakte 🙂, etc.

    Create a bootable USB flash drive

    This utility will allow you to create a bootable USB flash drive with Dr.Web LiveCD, which may be useful to you in the future.

    File Manager

    Special thanks to the developers for this utility. The manager, although simple, will not stop you, for example, from saving files from drive C and transferring them to others local disks permissible at reinstalling Windows. He looks like this:

    Mail

    And finally, a simple program for working with mail. I don’t know, of course, whether it will be useful to you, but it is there.

    This completes the main components of Dr.Web LiveCD; there is also a notepad. But the most useful thing, in my opinion, is the anti-virus scanner and file manager.

    To exit the LiveCD, press or “Safe Shutdown”.

    Update

    Thanks to the user named Mikos, who is very actively helping me with answers to your questions, mainly on, I learned that now the boot disk from Dr.Web is called Dr.Web LiveDisk. And there are some changes in it.

    A built-in utility has appeared , which very often refuses to start under Windows. Also, there is visual differences. But, thanks to the presence of the Russian interface language, it will not be difficult to understand the boot disk.

    You can still download Dr.Web LiveDisk from the Dr.Web website, using the link above in the article. There are two versions, the first for creating a bootable disk, the second for creating a bootable USB flash drive.

    I advise you to create this disk for yourself and let you have it, just in case. Because you can really do a lot with it. I always have it at hand and have helped me out more than once, especially in destroying ransomware viruses. If you have questions, I’m waiting for them in the comments. Good luck friends!

    Dr.Web LiveCD – detailed instructions updated: August 24, 2014 by: admin

    Hello, this is the first time on your site, there is so much information that I’m even confused, and I want to read this too.

    My question is quite simple, how to write ISO image Live CD to flash drive or how to make a bootable Live CD? That is, I downloaded an ISO image of a Live CD from the Internet from cool programs, but I can’t burn it to disk, since the laptop doesn’t have a disk drive. What program can I use to make the flash drive bootable? There's a lot on this Live CD. good utilities for diagnosing and repairing the Windows operating system, and even has an antivirus.

    I found instructions on the Internet that show how to create a bootable Live CD flash drive using the UltraISO program, but When booting the laptop, the bootable USB flash drive is missing in the BIOS and it's not even in the boot menu. Why is this so? On one of the forums on the Internet they said that all this was due to my new laptop with UEFI, but they didn’t tell me what to do.

    Hello friends, if you have downloaded an ISO image of a Live CD somewhere on the Internet from good programs, then you don’t have to burn it onto a CD or DVD, you can just make a bootable Live CD, then boot your computer or laptop from this flash drive and that’s it. But there is important nuances, associated specifically with new laptops that have the Windows 8.1 operating system installed.

    To boot such a laptop from a Live CD flash drive, you need to disable BIOS Secure Boot and UEFI interface, then boot the laptop from this flash drive and perform any steps to repair and restore the operating system, then turn it on in the BIOS UEFI interface and boot back into Windows 8.1. We will do all this in today's article.

    Personally, I always use the WinSetupFromUSB program to create any bootable USB flash drive, which (if you need) can even create . For example, let's create together with you such a flash drive containing two Live CDs.

    So, let's go. I downloaded two different LiveCD ISO images on the Internet and I want them to be burned onto a flash drive. LiveCD and flash drive were bootable. For example, they will be called Live CD and Live CD 2.

    Go to the official website of the WinSetupFromUSB program and select Download

    http://www.winsetupfromusb.com/files/download-info/winsetupfromusb-1-4-7z/

    The folder with the program is downloaded in the archive, we take out the WinSetupFromUSB-1-4 folder from the archive and go into it. If you are working on the operating system Windows 7 64 bit or Windows 8 64 bit, then run the file WinSetupFromUSB_1-4_x64.exe.

    In the main window of the WinSetupFromUSB program, select your flash drive, in my case Corsair Voyager (14.9 GB)

    Check the box Auto format it with FBinst and check the box NTFS.

    Check the box and click on the button on the right

    In the explorer window that opens, select the desired Live CD ISO image with the left mouse and click on the Open button

    Bootable USB flash drive Live CD ready.

    Friends, if after some time you want to add another useful one to this flash drive Live CD with good programs, this can be done very simply.

    Add another Live CD image to our bootable USB flash drive

    Launch the WinSetupFromUSB program.

    Our flash drive is already bootable, which means Auto format it with FBinst do not mark and go straight to the point Linux ISO/Other Grub4dos compatible ISO and click on the button on the right,

    In the explorer window that opens, mark the second ISO image of Live CD 2 with the left mouse and click Open.

    A bootable USB flash drive with two Live CDs is ready.

    But this article will not help you if you have new laptop with a UEFI BIOS and the Windows 8 operating system installed. In order to boot such a laptop from a Live CD flash drive, you need to follow the link and read our detailed article on this topic.

    After you boot from your flash drive Live CD in the boot menu of your laptop or computer, select the name of your flash drive there. I choose my flash drive Corsair Voyager (14.9 GB)

    We don’t select anything in this window, we wait a couple of seconds.

    But in this window you can select any Live CD that you placed on your flash drive.

    To help you, a website has been created.

    Hello friends! Today we will learn how to create and use multiboot disk system administrator.

    This universal device, which contains everything necessary funds for testing and disaster recovery system and its main components.

    This device (CD/DVD or USB flash drive) consists of a certain number of products that are combined by a shell. By booting from such a device, you can launch a pre-installed operating system, various utilities for diagnosing components, antivirus programs. And also create/deploy a system image, restore/copy data, restore boot, clean the OS from viruses, remove the ransomware blocking banner and much more.

    Simply put, it is a portable operating system image based on Windows distribution with the necessary set of software, recorded on a CD/DVD disk or USB flash drive. As a rule, such devices are used in emergency cases when it is impossible normal loading OS. For example, a blue “screen of death” or a blocking banner. By booting from a Live CD/DVD, you can test components (processor, hard drive, RAM) or delete a virus-infected file.

    You need to record or prepare such an image in advance. As they say, prepare the sleigh in the summer and the cart in the winter. Be fully prepared in advance. In addition, Live CD/DVD is useful in everyday affairs. For example, to work with sections of hard disk(), do backup copy system, edit the registry or test the system. The specialist also needs to be able to, having previously installed.

    What is needed to create a bootable Live CD/DVD/USB device?

    Depending on your choice (disk or flash drive) and the size of the image, you can create a bootable Live-CD disk, Live DVD disk or multiboot flash drive ( MultiBoot USB). In this article we will look at creating a bootable Live DVD and MultiBoot USB disk.

    You will need:

    1. An image with the necessary set of software.

    2. DVD ±R blank. First we will make a bootable Live DVD.

    As for the image, below you can see two download links. Download the first image. At slow internet or limit tariff you can use the second image RusLiveFull_CD (663 MB). It is more compact and contains only the essentials. I want to say right away that I am not the author of these assemblies.

    Once the image is downloaded, we begin recording it onto a disc. I recommend using free program ImgBurn.
    The official website of the program is www.ImgBurn.com. We launch the program and specify the path to the downloaded RusLive image. Click "Record".

    More details about burning an image to disk using the ImgBurn program are written in. If you are using the second image (663 MB), then you can use a CD.

    As I said above, as a carrier boot device You can also use a regular USB flash drive with a size of at least 1 GB.

    To write an image to a flash drive, use the program WinSetupFromUSB. Download it from the official website at: www.winsetupfromusb.com. There are two versions of the program: for a regular 32-bit system and for a 64-bit one. Depending on your OS version, launch the appropriate shortcut.

    In the field « USB disk» indicate the flash drive to which recording will be made. Next, set the necessary settings and in the item "Other Grub4dos compatible ISO" indicate the path to the downloaded image.

    Wait for the recording to finish, after which a window will appear saying Job done.

    The boot device is ready. Now you need to boot from it. Insert the disk into the drive or USB flash drive into the port USB 2.0!! (USB port 3.0 blue). Next, you need to set it to boot from the drive (if you recorded a Live DVD) or from a flash drive. Click Restart Computer.

    If you have desktop computer, then immediately when the system starts, press the F8, F11 or F12 key. It depends on your motherboard. If you can't boot the first time, try again. this procedure using a different function key.

    If you have a laptop, then most often this Esc key, F8 or F12 (less often F1 or F2). You can see a list of hotkeys.

    In the menu that appears, use the arrows on your keyboard to select the line with your device. Press Enter and wait for the GRUB4DOS boot loader window, where we will see the following entry: RusLiveFull_DVD from partition. Press Enter. A menu list will appear, where we select the first item.

    In the next window, select the item.

    Wait for it to load Windows shell XP. Don't be alarmed, this is just an operating system loaded from a prepared device. This is what it looks like.

    Live CD is an operating system that can be booted from any type of media. Such a system is not installed on hard drive. Most often, such disks are used to resuscitate a computer when the installed operating system refuses to boot.

    It is important to consider that live SD can contain any operating system. Most often users use OS Windows family. To boot from a “live disk”, you need to restart the computer and install the system media.

  • Computer resuscitation;
  • Studying the capabilities of any OS;
  • Cleaning the system folder;
  • Removing drivers that caused BSOD;
  • Export driver from any OS;
  • Analysis of installed and uninstallation of unnecessary updates;
  • Ability to launch specialized tools;
  • Ability to work with the network;
  • Checking the system for viruses.
  • Advantages

    Live CD has a number of advantages over a conventional operating system. First of all, it should be noted that it is possible to boot on absolutely any computer, even if the installed OS is damaged. This makes it possible to copy or move important documents to a safe place.

    A tool such as LiveCD allows you to revive an installed operating system. This importance comes from having built-in tools. For example, Acronis and similar programs. The only thing to keep in mind is that some tools require learning and inexperienced users It's better not to use them.

    Most life SD can be fully loaded into RAM. This increases the speed of the operating system and installed programs. For the operating system to load into RAM, its size must be small. In this case, the amount of RAM must be several times larger than the size of the Live CD. That's why on weak computers It is better to boot the operating system Windows XP or 7.

    Another advantage of LiveCD is the ability to work on a computer that does not have a hard drive or a small hard drive. It should also be noted that with the help of one Liv disk you can boot on any machine without fear that the installed OS will be damaged. In addition, life SD automatically detects everything after loading installed devices, such as printers, modems, etc.

    Ease of use can be considered another plus. The disc must be downloaded from the Internet and then burned to CD. After this, you can reboot the machine and boot from the LiveCD. It should be noted that the navigation of most “live disks” is Russian, so there will be no difficulties in managing it.

    Flaws

    Unfortunately, LiveCD has not only advantages, but also disadvantages. The main disadvantage is the storage of operating system settings and data written to disk. To save changes and settings you have to use additional media. For example, a USB drive.

    One more serious drawback can be considered rapid wear of a CD or DVD. Even with careful storage and use, scratches and cracks will sooner or later appear on the surface of the disc. If damaged, booting from the “live disk” will not work.

    Many users consider LiveCD loading speed to be a disadvantage. This is due to the fact that the operating system written to the disk is loaded into RAM and also configures the configurations of the hardware used.

    Burning an image to disk

    Before booting from a live disk, users need to burn the image to a CD or DVD. It all depends on the size of the operating system. First, it is recommended to install a program that allows you to record images.

    Despite the fact that there is a huge number free applications, it is recommended to consider Astroburn Lite. The utility can be downloaded for free from the website “http://www.astroburn.com/rus/home”. The advantage of this program is that it takes up virtually no disk space.

    After starting the program, you need to go to the “Image” tab. When the tab opens, you must perform the following steps in sequence:

    1. Select LiveCD or LiveDVD image.
    2. Change the recording speed (it is best to choose the minimum speed).
    3. Select a device intended for recording discs.
    4. Press the button to record.

    Once the disc has been burned and checked for errors, it is recommended to restart the computer and boot from the “live disc”.

    Recording a "live disc" to a USB drive

    Sometimes users encounter such a problem as the absence of a DVD-ROM in their computer. This means that on regular disk You won't be able to burn a LiveCD. There is no need to be upset, because a boot disk can be made from a USB drive.

    To create a boot disk you will need program WInSetupFromUSB. It is best to download the program from the official website located at “http://www.winsetupfromusb.com/downloads/”.

    After installing and launching the application, you must sequentially perform the following steps:

    1. Select a USB drive for recording a “live disc”.
    2. If you are creating a boot disk for the first time, you should check the box next to the “Auto format it with FBinst” field.
    3. Select the type of image to be written to the USB disk.
    4. Press the “GO” button to create the disc.

    After this, a bootable USB flash drive will be created in a few minutes.

    Loading a "live disk"

    Before booting from the disk, you need to configure the BIOS. To do this, you need to enable the ability to boot from a disk or USB drive. This can be done by setting the appropriate changes. Each BIOS configures things differently. While booting from the disk, a window will appear in which you need to select the required action.

    In a few minutes the operating system will load. It should be noted that externally it does not differ from the OS installed on the computer. The difference can only be in the system version. Users can boot from any existing Windows operating system.

    It should be noted that the Live CD contains all the programs necessary for operation. After the system starts, you can enter the start menu, and then select the program of interest. All devices connected to the computer will be automatically detected by the system.

    With Live Disk, users can work in the same way as on installed system. The only thing worth remembering is that all changes to settings and documents will have to be saved to an additional storage medium.

    Conclusion

    Booting from a live disk solves many problems. First of all similar systems used to restore computer functionality. It is enough to use the tools downloaded to the disk, and the operating system will be restored. In addition, thanks to live SD, you can explore the capabilities of any operating system.

    It should be noted that there are a huge number of live CD and DVD builds. Therefore, you need to download the image according to your needs. It is worth noting that “live disks” can contain not only operating systems, but also specialized programs, such as Acronis.
