• Disabling unnecessary services in win 7. How to disable unnecessary Windows services

One way to improve performance operating system is to clear the list of automatically launched applications. How to remove programs from there, and today we’ll look at which services (their list is below) and how you can disable them in Windows environment 7, in order to avoid negative consequences on the performance of the computer, and also when it is advisable to do this.

Let's start with the definition. What is a service? This concept refers to an application that starts without the user’s knowledge and runs in background. About his activity (with rare exceptions) through GUI it is impossible to know. It does not display any windows or icons and often does not support console control.

Users wonder: “Will I really get a performance boost if I disable the dozens of applications that start and run in the background?” Services in Windows 7 consume system resources (load the processor and take up megabytes of RAM). If the computer is equipped with 4 or more GB of RAM, this will not have a significant effect: the processor will be unloaded by a couple of percent maximum, several tens - two hundred megabytes of RAM will be freed up, and the load on hard drive will decrease slightly.

When using an older laptop or computer with 2 GB of RAM, performance will be more noticeable. Although it is more advisable to disable themes and visual effects, and also use the swap file or increase its size.

What happens if you disable the one you need for work? Windows service? This may lead to the inoperability of any function or the appearance of an error, including a system one, which will be followed by an emergency restart of the computer.

Before disabling services, it is highly recommended (preferred) or a backup copy of the system registry!

    Disable unnecessary elements

There are several ways to exclude system and third-party services from startup in Win 7:

    • through the "System Configurator";
    • using the MMC console snap-in of the same name;
    • through third party program with appropriate capabilities.

    System Configurator

The easiest way to get rid of unnecessary processes is through the startup list editing interface. It disables starting services with a single click.

    1. We call the command interpreter using the key combination Win + R.
    2. We write and execute the line “msconfig”.
    1. Go to the “Services” tab, where there is a list of services installed in the system.
    1. Here you can check the “Do not display Microsoft objects” option.

The operation will leave on the screen only third-party services installed on the computer due to the user’s activities. If you disable them all, the operating system will not be affected and will even work a little faster, but there is one “but”. Many third party applications, such as emulators, antivirus programs and drivers peripheral devices you need to contact your own services before starting. If they do not function and cannot start, an error will appear and the antivirus or other program will fail.

    1. Uncheck the boxes that are next to unnecessary items, and click “OK”.
    1. We choose the appropriate option.

You can also measure the OS startup time using special utilities or PowerShell, but that's a separate conversation.

If something goes wrong, the “Enable all” button in the configurator window will allow you to start all services.

However, it is not recommended to use this method, because it will permanently disable the selected objects. It is much more effective to set it up manually for most unnecessary services or for those whose necessity you doubt. Although it’s better not to touch the latter at all.

    MMC console snap-in

Let's look at how you can configure autostart of services through the appropriate equipment.

    1. Execute the command “services.msc” in the command interpreter.
    1. We look at which service is not needed, right-click on its name and select “Properties”.
    1. In the parameters window, select “Startup type” – “Manual” or “Disable” – and click “OK”.

Unnecessary processes can be stopped immediately through their context menu. A brief reference is also called up from there. For ease of operation, the list can be sorted by launch type by clicking on the name of the corresponding column. We do not touch elements with the “Disabled” status.

Windows allows you to examine the dependencies of each service. To do this, go to the “Properties” of the element of interest and go to the “Dependencies” tab. The first block lists the objects without which the current service will not function, the second block lists the objects that depend on it (children). The list is empty - there are no dependencies.

We will not consider the third method of removing services from startup that are of no use. The program for stopping unnecessary services can be any: Starter, Autoruns or another, including integrated into any package of system applications. The meaning of working with it is similar, except that some utilities are endowed with the functions of creating backup copies editable keys for quickly rolling back changes made in case of problems.

    List of optional components

Let's start with network services. If you disable the services below on a computer that does not work on a local network (connected only to the Internet or completely autonomous in this regard), you will get rid of a dozen garbage processes.

Subject to availability home network It’s better not to touch anything from the list, otherwise we turn everything off.

    1. BranchCache – Performs caching on your home network.
    2. Auto-detect web proxy.

All other services should not be touched. They are extremely important for the operation of the operating system and its components. The exception is those installed with an outsider software(drivers, emulators) services. When you disable network services, it is better to stop them immediately and check whether the connection to the network has disappeared. If you don't touch anything unnecessary, problems are eliminated.

Trying to provide for everything possible options Using Windows, developers have equipped it with many services, some of which are needed only by a small number of users. For others, these components are a burden, a waste of RAM and computer resources. You will find information about which services can be disabled without harming the system, as well as instructions on how to enable and disable components in our article.

How to open service (component) management in Windows 7

    Via search bar

Click the “Start” button, then type in the search bar: services.msc, press “Enter”.

    Using the search bar

As a result, the “Services” window opens with a list, description and current state of services.

    Detailed list of installed services

Editing the list of components using this window is very convenient, since each service is provided with a description that allows you to understand its tasks and assess the need.

In order to see the description, just use the mouse to select the line of interest in the list.

    Via "Control Panel"

The same result can be achieved using the Control Panel. First we open it.

    Open the “Control Panel”

In the “All Controls” window, select “Administration”.

    Select "Administration"

After the “Administration” window appears on the screen, look for the “Services” line in its main part.

Find “Services” in the main window

By double-clicking on it with the left mouse button, we open the desired window with the same name.

    From the command line

You can also access the list of components we need by using the command line. We call it by simultaneously pressing the Win keys (usually the Windows branded flag is displayed on it) and R. After the “Run” window appears on the screen, type the msconfig command in the input line.

We gain access to “System Configuration”

Select the “OK” on-screen button and get access to the “System Configuration” window, in which we find the “Services” tab.

    Open the “Services” tab

What components can you safely remove?

When choosing applications that you can do without, you need to act consciously, that is, do not touch those services whose purpose or need is not very clear. It is better to leave something useless in memory than to delete something necessary, jeopardizing system stability and data security. If in doubt, you should look for additional information about the component and then make a decision.

List of services that can be turned off

    1. Remote registry. Allows other users to edit the registry. It is advisable to remove this component for greater security of your computer.

    Removing unnecessary components

Having decided which service should be deleted, in the “Services” window we already know, double-click on it. A small window appears on the side with the current at the moment settings of the selected application.

Change the parameters of the selected service

In the drop-down list of the “Startup type” option, select “Disabled”, then stop its operation in the current session by pressing the “Stop” and “OK” on-screen buttons. We repeat the same steps sequentially for all applications that are decided to be removed from RAM.

Changes are made slightly differently when using the Services tab of the System Configuration window. Having selected the application that should be removed, uncheck the box to the left of its name, after which the “Apply” on-screen button becomes active.

Remove the checkbox to delete a service

After clicking “Apply”, the window will appear additional information- shutdown date.

All that remains is to click “OK” and select the option for when to apply the changes made in the “System Settings” window that appears. “Exit without reboot” will delay them until the next work session, “Reboot” will immediately restart the system with new parameters.

    Reboot now or later

    5. An optimization service that monitors program usage activity and pre-loads them into RAM for accelerated launch if necessary. Significantly increases work speed.
    6. Task Scheduler. In Windows 7 it makes a big difference, to the point of not being able to switch the keyboard layout when the service is disabled.
    7. Remote procedure call (RPC). Important component Widows providing stable work many other services. Disabling is prohibited by the system.
    8. Desktop Window Manager Session Manager. Responsible for the operation of the proprietary Aero interface.
    9. Topics. Also a necessary service for the Aero interface.
    10. Windows Installer. A component for installing new applications that ensures their correct installation.

    How to add a service

As a rule, a standard set Windows components 7 is enough for the user. But at the same time, it is possible to add applications based on your needs.

To do this, open the “Control Panel”, then in the list of parameters that opens, find the active element “Programs and Features”.

    Select “Programs and Features”

A window will appear in which we are interested in the “Turn Windows components on or off” tab on the left.

On the left, select “Turn Windows features on or off”

By clicking on it, we open the “Windows Components” window.

Looking for the required service on the list

All that remains is to find the service we are interested in in the list and put a mark in the box to the left of it. The same can be done immediately for all other components that you decide to add. After finishing editing, click “OK”.

What if the list is empty or unavailable?

If Turn features on or off doesn't turn on or shows empty list, first of all, you need to find the cause of what is happening, and then eliminate it.

Reason 1: Change of value in the registry

Press the Win+R combination, then type regedit in the input area of the Run window.

Getting access to the registry editor

In the “Registry Editor” window, using the tree expanded on the left, go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SYSTEM - CurrentControlSet - Control - Windows tab. On the right side of the window we find CSDReleaseType.

    Examining the CSDReleaseType string

In the “Value” column opposite this parameter there should be 0. If this is not the case, then you need to change it to 0, click “OK” and reboot.

Reason 2: lack of administrator rights

The changes you make require administrator rights. Therefore, the cause of the problem may be logging in with account which does not have such powers.

In this case, you should log into Windows again as an administrator or obtain the appropriate rights for your account.

Reason 3: Damaged or missing necessary files

For some reason, your computer may not have necessary components for our task, stored in the C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages folder. In this case, you will have to restore them using System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7.

You can download the application from the website www.microsoft.com, but you need to take into account the bit capacity of the installed system.

    • 32-bit: https://www.microsoft.com/ru-RU/download/details.aspx?id=3132
    • 64-bit: https://www.microsoft.com/ru-RU/download/details.aspx?id=20858

You can check the bitness of the system installed on your computer using the “Control Panel”, in which select the “System” tab.

In our case, system type: 32-bit operating system

After required file(with the msu extension) is selected and downloaded from the developer’s website, it should be launched after closing other applications. Usually the installation lasts no more than 15 minutes, after which we close the active window and restart the computer.

To check whether the problem was fixed automatically, open the list of components again. If nothing has changed, the list is still empty, we begin to correct errors manually.

To do this, find the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log on the disk and open it in the editor.

    Studying lines with (f)

Below the Checking Package Manifests and Cataloges line, the ones found in automatic mode errors. They all have (f) in the first column, but after the corrected ones an additional line appears with the value (fix). Most likely, our problem is related to the remaining ones that do not have such a line.

Now you need to manually remove the damaged keys. To do this, write down the error address starting with \Packages, then use Win+R and the regedit command to go to the already familiar Registry Editor.

Next, you need to go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ComponentBasedServicing\Packages tab and find the key we recorded, and then delete it. If everything is done correctly, the problem should be fixed.

Specialized applications that disable unnecessary Windows 7 services

There are special programs, which will help you remove faster unnecessary services. For example, the free Smart app.

The application also allows you to choose one of four ready-made configurations:

    1. Safe Tweaks. The most secure, suitable for most users.
    2. Moderate Tweaks. Increases performance by optionally disabling multimedia services.
    3. Advances Tweaks. It leaves only services that are vital for the system, and disables the rest. Recommended for experienced users.
    4. Custom. A similar configuration intended for specialists. Equipped with a mode manual settings services

You should definitely create a restore point. To do this, just check the “Create Restore Point Before Applying Changes” checkbox at the bottom of the program window.

    Better be careful

To launch the selected changes, you must click the “Apply” screen button, and then confirm your choice again.

Unloading RAM from unused applications will give noticeable results almost immediately. Required programs will work faster, the load on the processor will decrease, and the laptop battery will drain more slowly. It’s worth spending a little time on optimization, so that you can return it with interest by speeding up your computer.

The procedure for disabling unnecessary services is useful for netbooks and computers with limited computing resources or equipped with slow hard drives. For details on which services in Windows 7 you can safely disable and which are better left alone, and how to enable the necessary components, read our article.

How to open service (component) management in Windows 7?

The user can use two methods.

    Via Start

Click "Start", then "Run". In the window that appears, enter the line services.msc.

This method is the most convenient because it provides information about the service, which makes it clear its significance for the system.

    Then go to “Services”

The same window can be opened using the toolbar by clicking on the “Administration” tool and selecting “Services”.

To disable a service, you need to double-click on it and in the window that opens, change the “Startup type” option to “Disabled”. Then click “Stop” and “Ok”.

    Win+R

After pressing “Win” + R, enter msconfig.exe in the line and click “OK”.

In the window that appears, you need to open the “Services” tab.

To stop the application, you need to uncheck the box next to it and click “Apply”. The shutdown date will appear in the same line.

After clicking “Ok”, another window will appear where you need to choose when to restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

What services can be disabled without harming the system?

Most background applications ensure system stability. Therefore, you should definitely check their name and function.

With some exceptions, all computers can operate without the following services:

    1. Remote registry. Allows other users to change the system registry, so you need to disable it at least for security reasons.
    2. Fax. If there is no connection to this device, the service can be disabled.
    3. Windows Error Logging Service. Responsible for the error log and notifications about crashes or freezing of programs.
    4. Client for tracking changed connections. Associated with NTFS files that are transferred within a computer or network.
    5. Windows Search. Needed only by those who frequently search for files.
    6. Parental Control ( parental controls). Has no benefit.
    7. IP Ancillary Service. Useless on a home PC.
    8. Print Manager. Only needed for the printer to work.
    9. Secondary login. Allows you to run processes from a different account. It is advisable to disable it for safety reasons.
    10. Tablet PC input service. If there is no pen or handwriting input, then the service is not needed.
    11. Windows Defender. If your computer has another protection system, you can disable it.
    12. Windows Firewall. The same as in the paragraph above.
    13. Smart Card Removal Policy. If such elements are not used, the service is not needed.
    14. SSDP detection. Used to detect devices using the SSDP protocol, which include, for example, “smart” household appliances. If there is no such equipment, then the service can be disabled.
    15. Adaptive brightness control. If your laptop does not have a light sensor, you can disable the service.
    16. Computer browser. If there is no local network, you can disable it.
    17. Access to HID devices. These include information input means, e.g. USB mouse, webcam and scanner. If such equipment is not used, the service can be disabled.
    18. Basic TPM services. If TMP and/or BitLocker chips are not used, you can disable them.
    19. Server. If the computer is not part of the local network, you can disconnect it.
    20. Bluetooth support service. If your computer does not have such a device or is not using it, you can disable the service.
    21. NetBIOS support module. If there is no connection to the local network, you can disable it.
    22. Windows Image Upload (WIA) service. Needed to operate a scanner or digital camera.

Which services cannot be interfered with?

Next background applications absolutely cannot touch:

    4. Plug and Play. If the service is disabled, the system will not be able to recognize new devices.
    5. Superfetch. Determines the programs that the user uses most often and adds them to RAM (but does not launch them). The computer will still work with the service disabled, but performance will be reduced. Can be disabled if the computer has less than 1 GB of RAM. Otherwise the effect will be negative.
    6. Task Scheduler. It cannot be disabled because it has many tasks. Without it, you can't even switch the keyboard layout.
    7. Remote procedure call (RPC). Affects many other services.
    8. Desktop Window Manager Session Manager.
    9. Topics. If disabled, the Aero interface will stop working.
    10. Windows Installer. Allows you to install applications.

    How to add Windows components?

For most users, Windows 7 with a standard set of components is sufficient. But sometimes you need to enable additional applications or utilities. To do this, you need to do the following:

    1. Start - Control Panel - Programs and Features.
    2. Click "Turn Windows features on or off."
    3. A window will appear with available components. The checkbox indicates that the application is enabled.
    4. To add a component, you need to check the appropriate box and click “Ok”. If you clear the checkbox, the component will be disabled. But it will not be deleted from the disk and to enable it you need to check the box again.

Video: step-by-step instructions for adding components

“Turn Windows features on or off” does not work or the list is empty: what to do and what is the reason?

    There may be several reasons.

If one of the installed programs has changed the value in the registry

Through “Start” or using the “Win” + R key combination, open the “Run” window and enter regedit.

Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SYSTEM - CurrentControlSet - Control - Windows and find the CSDReleaseType parameter. If there is a value other than 0, then you need to change it, then click “Ok” and restart the computer.

Login with an account without administrator rights

You need to either get administrator rights or log in with an administrator account.

If files are missing or damaged in the C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages folder.

An update will be required to fix this. You will need to download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7:

    • For 32-bit processor: https://www.microsoft.com/ru-RU/download/details.aspx?id=3132.
    • For 64-bit processor: https://www.microsoft.com/ru-RU/download/details.aspx?id=20858.

To find out the bit depth, you need to click “Start”, open “Control Panel”, then “System”. The bit capacity is indicated in the “System type” section.

Close all programs and run the file. It has the extension .msu. The whole process will take 10–15 minutes.

After installation, close the window and restart the computer. Then open the list of components again. If the window is still empty, you need to correct errors manually.

Open C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log and look at the lines under “Checking Package Manifests and Cataloges”. If there is an error, then at the beginning of the line there is (f), and then the error code and path. But if there is another line under this line, and there is (fix) in front, then this error has been corrected.

In the lines marked pink errors that could not be corrected are indicated. Errors in in this example may differ from what the user finds.

You need to write down information from the lines where uncorrected errors are indicated, for example, on a piece of paper. The important part is the one that starts with "Package_".

Now you need to manually delete the corresponding registry keys. Open the “Run” window and enter “regedit” in the line. In the window that opens, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ ComponentBasedServicing\Packeges\ and find the key with the error. This example shows the removal of the error in the fourth line.

After removing the damaged key, the component list issue should be resolved.

Smart - a program to disable unnecessary services

Free software that does not need to be installed.

Allows you to set one of four settings configurations:

    1. Safe Tweaks. The safest, suitable for most users. The operation of the system will not be affected, and performance will increase.
    2. Moderate Tweaks. Disables almost half of the services, limits multimedia capabilities systems. Productivity is even higher.
    3. Advances Tweaks. Recommended for advanced users only. Disables all services except those necessary for the functioning of the system.
    4. Custom. Also for specialists. There is a manual mode for configuring services.

Disabling unused services will good tool to optimize (accelerate) the operation of a computer with little RAM. And in the case of a laptop, this will also lead to increased battery life.

How to optimize and increase the security of your computer! Or what services need to be disabled in Windows 7, 8?

Most services are system programs, part of the operating system, without which it would not be able to function. However, among them there are vulnerable services that are not needed by most computer users. What does vulnerable mean? And the fact is that with their help, viruses, when they get onto a computer, can do whatever they want.

“Well, what about the antivirus program!?”- you say. No antivirus can protect your computer 100%! Every now and then you can come across exclamations like: “I have the latest (Avast, Nod32, Aug, Norton, Kaspersky, Doctor Web, and so on...), but I caught a virus and now nothing works for me.”.

You can’t just install an antivirus and think that you are completely protected from all sides., no, that won't happen. You also need to take care of setting up your computer for safe operation by disabling unused services. In addition to security, such a procedure can increase the speed of your computer, since each service is a program that takes up part of the system resources. (By the way, I already wrote about how to speed up the speed of a computer).

For example, in Windows, by default, it is enabled fax service, but few people have been using faxes for a long time, this is the last century, but still, for almost all users this service works every second and consumes, albeit insignificantly, computer resources. True, if you consider that I have about a dozen such services, together they already create a significant load on the computer. And security is very poor because of them.

As an example, I’ll give another service, only not so harmless, it’s called "Remote Registry", with its help, a virus that gets onto your computer can remotely change your system registry, in other words, the attacker will receive the key to all doors. (We’ll talk about how to disable such services below.) It’s surprising why such services are enabled by default in Windows and why antivirus programs themselves do not disable such services, because for ordinary users the remote registry service is unnecessary. Those who may need it themselves know how to turn it on, if anything, but for ordinary users they have only made it a burden.

How to disable unnecessary and dangerous services?

    1) To disable unnecessary and, especially, dangerous services in Windows 7, you need to go to the “management” section. To do this, press the button "windows", then find in the right column "computer" and click on it with the right mouse button. In the menu that opens, click on "Control".

    * In Windows 8, this is done in a similar way, but only through the “Computer” shortcut on the desktop.

    2) The program opened before us "computer control". Here we are interested last section "Services and Applications", having opened the subsection, go to "Services".

    3) This is what the list of all services on our computer actually looks like. For convenience, you can expand the window to full screen, and also go to "standard" mode.

    4) The list of services that can be safely disabled will be in the next paragraph; now I will show you how to disable and remove unnecessary services from autostart. We will disable some services completely, and some will switch to manual mode, see. Let's start with a service that is already familiar to us - “Remote Registry”.

We double-click with the left mouse button on the service that we want to disable; in this example, I disable the “Remote Registry” service. This window opens. Here we should translate the position "Startup type" on "Disabled". After that, click on the button just below "Stop". That's all, the service is disabled and removed from automatic startup.

Attention!: Before we move on to the next point, I want to remind you once again that you should never disable all services in a row, without most of all these services, windows cannot function normally, so before disabling, be sure to check the name in the header window, what service you are disabling, and also, strictly adhere to the following list!

List of services in Windows 7 that should be disabled

List of services in windows 7, which in most cases are unnecessary and only represent an opportunity for insidious malware to do evil on your computer!:

Remote registry- We definitely turn it off!

    - manually.

Computer browser— Translate manually if you do not have a local network.

Secondary login— disable or switch to manual.

Dispatcher automatic connections remote access — Disable or manually

    Distributed Transaction Coordinator— Disable

    NetBIOS Support Module- Disable

Setting up a remote desktop server— Disable

Windows Image Upload (WIA) service— If you have a scanner connected to your computer or digital camera, then we don’t touch anything, if not, then we turn it off.

Bluetooth support— If you don’t use bluetooth, turn it off.

    - turn off

    - We also turn it off

    Smartcard- turn off

Fax— if we don’t use it, we also turn it off.

List of services in Windows 8 that should be disabled

Windows 7 is sorted out, now for those who have version 8. The services here will be approximately the same. I already talked about how to enter the “Management” section, as well as how to disable services.

ktmrm for distributed transaction coordinator- manually.

Computer browser- If you do not have a local network, then switch to manual mode.

Windows Biometric Service— If you don’t use a fingerprint or retinal scan, etc. to log into the system, then disable it.

Secondary login- disable or switch to manual.

Print Manager— If you do not use the printer, then turn it off

Smartcard removal policy— If you don’t use them or don’t even know what they are, then turn them off.

Service windows defender — If you already have another antivirus installed, then disable it.

Bluetooth support- If you do not use bluetooth, then turn it off.

Windows Remote Control Service- We turn it off, since no one except you should control it.

Remote Desktop Service- Turn it off.

    Smartcard- turn off

Fax- if we don’t use it, we also turn it off.

Remote registry- Default this service disabled in windows 8, but just in case, check that it is turned off.

Well, that’s all, after the steps taken, the security of the computer has increased, since most malware These services are used; without them, viruses will be helpless. However, this is not the final setup for optimal computer protection.

This procedure The solutions described in this article will not work correctly without further security optimization. There are a few more touches that we'll look at in the next article, so don't miss out.

As you know, none of the currently existing Windows systems is one hundred percent productive, offering the user a huge number of unnecessary services, processes and components running in How to disable unnecessary services in Windows 7, let's try to figure it out. We will take the seventh version of the OS solely as an example, since similar operations can be performed in the eighth and tenth modifications.

How to disable unnecessary services in Windows 7: general rules

First of all, you need to clearly understand that disabling some services should not be done by ending some processes in the Task Manager, which only facilitates a one-time stop of the selected component, but exclusively through special system editors.

IN in this case There are several basic methods for deactivating services. Roughly speaking, they can be divided into explicit and implicit. For example, processes displayed in the startup menu or in the executable tree background services, the user sees. These are obvious processes. Components such as the Hyper-V module, which also requires activation in the BIOS, are not needed by the user at all, but he does not know about it. They are not in the process tree, and disabling Windows 7 services and using them can only be done using special settings. But more on that a little later. For now, let's stick to what everyone knows.

    Update installation center

“Update Center” is almost the biggest headache for Windows system users. The service works as it wants (it is not possible for the user to determine the time of exit or download of the next update). Therefore, it can be disabled, especially since all major updates relate exclusively to the service Windows security. And if the user has enabled receiving updates for others Microsoft products, like “The Office”, then you can generally notice almost daily updates.

But this involves downloading and using Internet traffic. If the system is functioning normally without this, “Update Center” can be disabled. This is done quite simply in the settings contained in the standard “Control Panel”.

    Administration

In principle, access to service management can be obtained through computer administration, called up by the corresponding line in the properties menu by right-clicking on the icon where unnecessary processes are disabled through the utility built into the Windows system.

Here you select the services section and change required parameters launch. But don't rush to rejoice. First, let's look at the theoretical issues related to what should be turned off and what not.

    Services Section

You can quickly get to the services management section by entering the services.msc command in the “Run” management console (Win + R). Most services are disabled here.

But here you need to be extremely careful. The fact is that terminating (disabling) some processes can negatively affect the entire system as a whole. But in the simplest case, you can simply change the automatic start type to manual.

What services are best disabled in Windows 7?

Now specifically about those processes that can and should be deactivated. A list of them is presented below:

    • remote access to the registry and calling remote procedures;
    • offline file analysis;
    • IPSec key exchange;
    • printing system;
    • error logging client;
    • tracking of changing connections;
    • the Parental Control service, which came to the “seven” from Vista;
    • Hyper-V virtual machine;
    • unused devices and their drivers;
    • video chip control consoles.

    Using startup

All startup applications belong to the type of programs that are loaded along with the system at the time it starts (probably there is no need to explain this). However, not all users use settings to disable unnecessary services

You can also disable Windows 7 services at startup from here. To do this, use the msconfig access command, which is entered in standard menu"Run."

Next, we look at the startup menu, where services that can be disabled are presented. In principle, there is nothing wrong with unchecking all processes. You can even deactivate video cards that start with the control console system. Depending on the modification of the OS itself, you can only leave the switching control language bar ctfmon, if such a process is in the list (as a rule, it is not present during a “clean” installation) Windows versions 7 instead of XP or Vista).

    Deactivating system components

But not all processes can be deactivated in the Task Manager menu or disabling unnecessary startup items. Some components can only be found in additional settings the system itself.

First, let's pay attention to the “hardware” components. Smart cards are used by many users who have the ability to connect them to modern terminals and identify them with computer or mobile programs.

Sometimes even card terminals without installing the accompanying drivers can generate errors. Moreover, not all smart cards are compatible with certain types of devices or operating systems. The same banking system running under Windows control, it makes absolutely no difference which card is used. The main thing is that the information be read via the magnetic line. This function is not provided in Windows 7, as well as fingerprint recognition, so disabling it is out of the question.

But another important aspect of the question of how to disable unnecessary services in Windows 7 is eliminating system load problems by deactivating additional components.

If you go to the “Control Panel” section and select the Programs and Features menu, it is easy to notice that some services are in an active state (their names have check marks).

First of all, you should pay attention to the fact that the Print Manager service is active in any system, even installed from scratch and without a connected printer. There is nothing surprising in this, because initially it is assumed that the user will print some documents. This is wrong. And the Print Spooler component can be disabled without any doubt.

Here you can also find a bunch of unnecessary things that Windows systems turn on without user notification. At least most of the above components can be disabled without any serious impact on the system.

    Additional BIOS settings

In addition to all of the above, it is worth noting that not all components associated with the operating system can be deactivated using its software and settings.

So, for example, you can disable unnecessary Windows 7 services like the camera or the same Hyper-V module by setting the appropriate parameters of the primary input/output system. The parameters can be accessed by pressing the appropriate button or key combination when starting a computer or laptop, which the system itself offers. Usually this is Del, F12, F2, etc.

Here you need to deactivate support for Hyper Threading Technology, which for Intel processors is responsible for creating and using a virtual machine.

But what you definitely shouldn’t do is disable DHCP servers and DNS clients, as this can lead to communication failures.

It is also not recommended to disable Superfetch service, which is responsible for correct operation applications after waking up from sleep Although... If it is not used, there is nothing wrong with turning it off in the power supply settings.

    Bottom line

This is not a complete list of everything that can and should be disabled in Windows. This is the same geolocation system in browsers, the use of background volume copy services, etc. If you dig deeper, most processes that are in no way related to ensuring the operation of the operating system can be isolated without any damage.

At the very least, optimizing any version of Windows operating systems in the simplest case of applying settings may consist of disabling startup elements, unused Windows components, as well as network services that are activated by default, but are not related to the functioning of the OS itself.

Here, only the main ones that must be disabled, either mandatory or optional, were considered. In fact, upon closer inspection, you can disable everything except the system core. And this is not the best the best option is the use of optimizer programs, since they are actually not always able to interfere with the structure of the background services of the operating system (it simply does not allow this to be done). What the user sees, say, an increase in the speed of accessing the hard drive or Internet acceleration, is just a trick designed to show the user the imaginary quality of the utility being used, so it is better to simply disable unnecessary Windows 7 services without resorting to help third party applications, who, by the way, sometimes don’t know how to do anything like that, although the opposite is stated. However, by applying all the methods shown above, you can achieve a significant improvement in the performance of any Windows system. And, of course, it is not at all necessary to disable absolutely all components and services.
