And by the way, if you are really afraid that your hacker neighbor might have hacked you and is now watching movies at your expense, you can see not only the name of the device, but also, in some cases, their IP address. Even if an attacker tries to hide it, you can still find a trace of use different programs for hackers.

Useful information: all programs for Android and iOS devices who promise to “unnoticed” sit on their neighbor’s Wi-Fi, while hacking it efficiently – a myth!

    Video connections and settings

All detailed instructions, it is better to look for video instructions in the public domain. This way you will find more useful and understandable information specifically for you, answering your questions. There are many channels on YouTube dedicated to this. A lot of programmers make videos on various topics and help people. It is still more convenient for a person to watch how all this is done visually than to read and try to understand. But to each his own. There are many forums and websites dedicated to programming and even online academies that teach skills. system programmer. There are people who understand this - they are the most difficult to deceive, but there are the opposite. However, it’s good that we have the Internet and we can find answers to problematic questions at any time.

"Settings WiFi router? Nothing could be simpler, Watson!
Being even a very far person from the depths of knowledge of all the secrets computer world, most likely you have heard of such a thing as Wi-Fi! Let's immediately decide what this word means. WiFi is a technology wireless transmission information via radio signal. Now it has become widespread, so in order to keep up with the homosapiens of the 21st century, I strongly recommend getting involved in the topic and actively mastering and using it. Customization Advantage wifi at home before the cable connection is so huge that there is no point in even explaining it - the Internet and data exchange without wires! No sockets, cords or other millennia-old nonsense - I took out a laptop or smartphone (or whatever else is weighing on your pocket?) - turned it on and away I go...

If you are reading this article, then the question of setting up a WiFi router has arisen for you. Well, let's figure out how to set up WiFi on a laptop and computer with Windows 7 or XP.

I’ll immediately make a reservation that the menu sections in the router admin panel that I will talk about can different models have different names and are located in different parts of the menu - the main thing is to understand the essence in which section what needs to be written.

    1. So, first of all, you need to purchase a router with wifi support. To set up a router to distribute a high-speed signal, it is advisable to purchase equipment with maximum throughput(now there are already up to 450 MB/s), which is called reserve. All the features of the choice are described in detail in this blog.
    2. Turn on the WiFi router and connect two cables to it - one, Internet from the provider, to the connector called “WAN”, the other, free on both sides, which came with the kit, to the “LAN” connector.

    3. Connect the free end of the cable to the computer or laptop from which we will configure the equipment.

    4. Go to the browser address http://192.168.1.1 or another address indicated on the bottom of the device. Depending on the manufacturer and model, the address may look like 192.168.10.1, 192.168.0.1 or 10.10.0.1 - from those that I personally came across.

    5. Enter your login and password - usually admin/admin, but may differ. They are indicated there, on back side router, next to the address for logging into the admin panel.

    6. In the router settings, in the WAN or Internet section, select the type of connection that is either specified in the provider’s contract or found out by calling technical support, and enter all the access data depending on this type. Again, they are all indicated in the contract or accompanying explanatory materials and instructions from the provider.

    7. In the “Wireless Network” or “WiFi” section, set the name of our Wi-Fi (SSID)

    8. In the security section, set the encryption type to WPA2/PSK and set a password for connecting to WiFi.

    9. Activate the mode virtual server— DCHP, which allows you to dynamically distribute IP addresses from a given range.

    10. Save all changes

Setting up a WiFi router - connecting a laptop

Let's move on to WiFi setup on a laptop. Let's look at Windows 7 as an example, although on XP everything will be the same - the only difference is in the names of the menu items in the system itself. But first of all, keep in mind that the laptop must have WiFi module- either built-in, which you will be notified by a sticker on the case informing you of its presence, or some kind of button to activate it.

If it is not there, then you need to purchase and install it. WiFi adapter— details about choosing this device.

Possible errors when setting up a router

At self-configuration router for distribution wifi signal beginners often admit enough simple mistakes. I will now give the solution to the most common ones.

If all the router settings have been made correctly, then the Internet should start working wirelessly. Follow the blog updates to learn how to increase Wi-Fi range and many other useful things.

As a rule, most problems arise when connecting to the router via demon wired network. Connecting via a network cable should not cause any difficulties. But, I have already encountered similar questions several times, and I decided to write a short instruction with a photo, in which I will tell you how to use LAN cable connect your computer (or laptop) to the router.

And what exactly is there to write about here? We took the cable, connected it to the router, then to the computer, and everything was ready. But still, maybe it will be useful to someone.

As a rule, modern routers have 4 LAN connectors. This means that you can connect 4 devices using a network cable. And they will all receive the Internet from the router, or work on the local network. By the way, read the article on setting up a local network.

    We will need:

    • Router with a free LAN connector (yellow).
    • Network cable. A small cable is included with the router. But, if you need a longer cable, you can make it yourself. I wrote how to do this in the article. Or just go to a computer store and ask to crimp the network cable to the length you need.
    • Computer with network card (usually it is integrated into motherboard) . Well, or a laptop, netbook with an RJ-45 network connector.

    Let's get started :)

Take our network cable, it looks like this (yours may be slightly different, I will enter a different length):

We connect one end of the cable to the yellow connector (LAN) of our router.

It doesn't matter which of the four connectors you connect the cable to.

Now we connect the other end of the cable to our computer or laptop.

This is what the network connector looks like on a computer:

After connecting network cable, one of the four indicators on the router should light up, indicating a connection to the LAN connector.

Now look at the computer screen. If in the notification panel (bottom, right) you see this connection status (as in the screenshot below), then everything is fine. The Internet is already working.

But, in this way, it would seem in a simple way, problems may also arise. Now we will look at some of the most popular ones.

Problems connecting your computer to the router via a network cable

After connecting, the status on the notification panel may not change; you will see the computer crossed out with a red cross.

In this case, first of all you need to check the cable with which you connected the computer to the router. How to do this? You can, for example, take another cable, or a cable that carries the Internet directly to your computer. If this connection status changes (even if a yellow triangle appears), then the problem is in the cable. Perhaps something has come loose there. Just change it.

It is possible that the network card is simply disabled. Let's check it out. Go to and find there Local network connection. If there is a status next to it Disabled, then right-click on this connection and select Turn on.

If such a connection as There is no local network connection at all, then most likely the driver is simply not installed on your network card. Download and install the driver. If there was a disk included with your computer (laptop), then most likely it has this driver.

Connected the cable, but the connection does not have access to the Internet

And this can happen. The problem looks like this:

First, you need to determine what the problem is. This may occur due to problems on the router side. See the article on this issue.

But I'll tell you in a simple way. If other devices work normally from this router, and there is Internet on them, then most likely the problem is on the computer itself. This is understandable :).

And as a rule, there is only one problem.

Go to again Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections and right-click on Local Area Connection. Select properties. Then highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and press the button again Properties.

Set to receive IP and DNS automatically and click OK.

Through a router, but don't know where to start? We will help you with this. Only a small part of all those who have connected a Wi-Fi router at home themselves do this installation without errors - they carry out the setup, organize a wireless network and connect it to this network various devices. Ignorance of the basics of planning local networks can lead to problems in their use in the future.

What is important to know at the beginning of the process

It is important to understand the nuances: in order to create a functional local network, you must purchase a Wi-Fi router. Don't confuse it with wired router without Wi-Fi, which uses wires to distribute the signal - it usually does not have an antenna. Or with a similar device - an access point that performs other tasks.

To connect to the Internet through a router and organize home network Wi-Fi, you can use different routers, because the main differences are in the settings and Wi-Fi connection routers to the Internet consist only of graphic design admin panel. Thus, if you understand the connection principle using one router as an example, you can easily connect and configure any other. For example, today we will configure the ASUS WL-520GC, the whole process with screenshots.

How to connect the Internet on a computer via a router

Before purchasing a Wi-Fi router, your PC itself received an IP address from the Internet provider, and now, using your new purchase, you can connect other computers and devices. Now it is the router that will “communicate” with the provider and on your local network it will itself assign an internal IP address to any of the connected gadgets.

    So, let's go.

    • We connect the router to the power supply and configure it to communicate with the PC. To achieve this goal, we insert the Internet wire into the WAN connector on the router, and connect the other wire, which has two plugs (RJ45), to the PC’s network card (where the Internet cable was previously connected) and to any of the router’s LAN1-LAN4 connectors.
    • We recommend that you always use the source uninterruptible power supply to protect your system from possible power surges and resulting hardware problems.
    • Let's start setting up your PC for work. Remember that not all networks are set up the same way. Some people need static IPs, others need dynamic ones. Still others use PPPoE connection(regular input of login and password). The fourth ones do not require any settings at all: just connect the router to the provider’s cable, open any website and a menu will appear asking you to enter your login and password.

By the way, many people are interested in how to connect the Internet to XP via a router. Nothing complicated - we take the following steps according to the scheme.

For Windows 7, the path looks like this: “Start> Control Panel> Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Center shared access> Change adapter settings. Then in the list of existing connections we must find and double-click the “Local Area Connection” tab, then select “Properties”, highlight the “Internet Protocol version TCP/IP v4” item and click the “Properties” button (in the diagram I’m in the settings wireless connection, but since you don’t have it yet, but have connected the PC and the router via an Internet cable, you select the “Local Area Connection” menu item).

If you have any data here, be sure to write it down for yourself. This is important for those users who cannot find an agreement with an Internet provider for the provision of services and, accordingly, do not remember important data from the agreement for setting up a network. This data may come in handy when you move on to the task of setting up the Internet via a Wi-Fi router (WAN), which will be discussed later.

Then in the same window we go to “Network connection settings on a PC”, set the IP, gateway and DNS values as automatic - we will enter them separately in our router ourselves.

We enter the address 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 into the browser search engine (if the first one did not work), here in most cases the settings of almost any router are located. If this address does not work, look in the router manual to see which address we can use to enter the settings menu of our device. You can also turn your router over. The sticker on the bottom contains the information you need.

Even if you did not find this path using the above methods, go to the “Control Panel”, right-click on “Local Area Connection”, in the new window click on “Details”, then find IPv4 Default Gateway - this is the IP address our router.

    • In the settings menu of our router we must find the DHCP Server (usually in the LAN submenu or " Local network"), then we set a number of values for IP addresses various gadgets, which will connect to our home network.

I used following values Start IP – 192.168.10.101 and End IP 192.168.10.200, you can vary them depending on the number of connected devices.

Enable DHCP Server and set it to “Enabled”. “Domain Name” (possibly also “Host Name”) – the name of the local network being created.

Keep in mind that I took screenshots from my routers that have an English interface and it is problematic for a beginner to understand what and how without screenshots - so these screenshots should help. And taking into account the fact that almost all new routers come with Russian-language software, it will be even easier for you. For the device in question it will look like this.

    • Global connection of the router occurs in the WAN menu. In Online, for example, the IP is set automatically, there is no need to configure it, you just need to insert the cable, set the network settings - and you are on the Internet.

In “WAN connection type” we set Automatic IP.

In Starnet and similar networks – PPPoE type. When setting up PPPoE, we must enter: username, server name (or Service Name), password, primary and secondary DNS. You will find all of the above in your agreement with your Internet service provider.

The question is how to connect wi-fi router to a computer, users are asked when they want to use the Internet throughout the apartment and have free access to wi-fi network from multiple devices.

In addition, they are interested in how many computers can be connected.

Installing and connecting a router is a simple process, which, however, requires careful adherence to the algorithm of actions.

    Router installation

Installing a router can be done in two ways:

    • via wireless network;
    • using a twisted pair (a special wire that usually comes with the device).

The second method is less preferable. In order to make a connection, three main components are required:

    1. Actually a wi-fi router;
    2. A desktop computer or laptop with an installed network card;
    3. Network cable.

If you only need a Wi-Fi router to use the Internet from a phone or tablet at home, then inexpensive router models designed for 4–6 devices are quite suitable for you.

However, still pay attention to how many computers can be connected to the network at the same time.

Advice! Special requirements for the device should be made if you plan to store data. Also, when choosing, it is worth checking what speeds the device supports; they must be gigabyte. Otherwise, working on the Internet will become very difficult.

    Wired connection

Connecting a router using twisted pair is quite simple, but with such a connection its operation becomes much more complicated.

In particular, you will not be able to move the computer away from it more than a certain distance.

Therefore, this option is not applicable for laptops. But it may be a good solution if you have desktop computer.

This wi-fi connection has its advantages. For example, it is believed that in this way the Internet causes fewer interruptions during operation.

    • First, connect an Internet cable to the router.
Find the WAN port on the back of the device and plug the cable into it. Then take network wire and connect it to the router into the Ethernet port, and the other end into the corresponding port on the computer.

    • Set up your router.
Open any browser and enter the device's IP address in the address bar. The address must be in the format . The true IP of the router can be found on the sticker on the bottom or in technical documentation to the equipment.

After the IP is registered, the setup program will require you to enter your login and password.

Then you can change the password for convenience. After this, the main wired network settings menu opens.

Important! If you are using a wired connection, then pay attention to the number of connectors in the router. How many there are - how many computers you can connect to the device.

    Wireless connection

If you intend to connect your Wi-Fi router wirelessly, you will have to set up the connection in two stages.

The first of them is the actual settings, and the second is work on network security.

    • In the router menu, open the “Wi-Fi” tab, and there find a tab called “ Manual setting parameters". The names of the tabs may vary depending on the type of router, but their meaning is usually obvious.

    • In the main settings we find the SSID field. We write the network name in it. This is the name that you will see when connecting to the Internet from any device. Set the correct region in which the wi-fi network will work.
Next, you need to select a channel for data transmission. It is better to leave the one indicated initially. However, over time it can be changed if problems arise with access to the Internet.

    • Choose wi-fi standards. It is advisable to leave the mixed ones installed by default. Now choose how many network users can connect several computers to it at the same time.
If the number of users should not be limited, select “0”.

    • Go to the “Security” or “Security Settings” tab. In the field at the top, select the type of protection. WPA2-PSK will do. Enter the password in the “Key” field. Such measures will protect you from hacking and from those who like to use the Internet at someone else’s expense.
Only someone who knows the password can connect the device to the network.

The advantage of this method is that you can use the Internet throughout the apartment.

And, in addition, only with this type can you connect the second, third and more computers located far from the device.
