• Download the program to access another computer. The best program for remote control of computers

Hello to all readers of my blog. Marat Nauruzbaev is with you. In the last article I told. Today I will tell you how you can organize remote access to your computer via the Internet.

It's no secret that sometimes there is a need to remotely connect to your home or work computer to download any files or to remote control desktop.

For these purposes, special programs are used for remote access to the computer. Moreover, this can be done from anywhere in the world, from almost any computer or even from your smartphone. For remote access, you will not need a static IP; the connection will be made through a generated ID.

I will talk about the three most popular remote access programs, how to install, configure and use these programs. So, let's go...

    TeamViewer program

I have been familiar with this program for a long time, and it helped me remotely administrate computers while in an office in another city.

The program has a simple interface, but at the same time it has many additional functions, such as creating interactive conferences, chat, launching in a browser, and multi-platform. Program TeamViewer Free for non-commercial use only.

    Installing and configuring TeamViewer

For TeamViewer installations go to the section " DownloadTeamViewer full version» click « Download» (all pictures are clickable)

After downloading the program distribution, launch it by double-clicking on it

Set these settings and click “ Accept – next»

In the next window, I usually uncheck all the checkboxes and click “ Ready»

    TeamViewer will be installed

After installation, you will need to configure TeamViewer, click " Continue»

Set the computer name and password to access this computer. Click " Continue»

In the next window, you can create a TeamViewer account or refuse to do so. Click " Continue»

In the final window, the ID of this computer will be generated. You can save it for future access to this computer from another computer or smartphone. Click " Complete»

This is what the main TeamViewer window looks like. In the left half of the window ( 1 ) shows your ID and password for accessing this computer. In the right half ( 2 ) you can enter the ID of the partner whose computer you can manage

Now, the question arises, how can you control another computer?

To do this, you need to install the full version of TeamViewer on the computer you want to manage, as I described above, or you can install the so-called TeamViewer client (TeamViewer QuickSupport).

    TeamViewer QuickSupport

TeamViewer QuickSupport does not require installation or administrator rights. Designed for quick access to the computer on which it is running. Not intended to control other computers.

Download for free TeamViewer QuickSupport can be found in the section " Download" official website of the program, select your operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux, Mobile) and next to " TeamViewer QuickSupport» click « Download»

After downloading TeamViewer QuickSupport, let's launch it

In the window that appears, your ID and password will be generated to access this computer.

Now enter this data in the main window TeamViewer to connect to the desktop of the computer you want to control

    Enter the password

We see the desktop of the remote computer on the screen. Now you can work on it as if you were at this computer

    UsageTeamViewer

Now I will show you some program options that you can use when accessing your desktop remotely.

    « Menu» — « Communication»

    1. Switching sides with a partner – switching modes. Now your partner will be able to control your computer
    2. Start an internet call – voice communication with your partner
    3. Chat – the ability to chat with a partner
    4. Video – video communication with your partner

    « Menu» – « Files and additional features»

    1. Take screenshot – screenshot of a remote session
    2. Start session recording – video recording of a remote session
    3. Open File Transfer – for two-way file transfer between partners

To transfer files, this convenient file manager opens

    ProgramLitemManager

Program for remote access to a computer Litemanager allows you to manage up to 30 computers for free (for individuals and legal entities).

Possibilities Litemanager similar TeamViewer, except that the free version of Litemanager does not have the ability to use audio video chat. Also in the paid version of Litemanager there is interesting feature « Record server desktop according to schedule" I didn’t notice such a function in TeamViewer...

    Installation and configuration LitemManager -Server

To install Litemanager go to , to the section “ Download"and vice versa LiteManager Pro/Free click " Download»

The program distribution package is downloaded in an archive. Double-click on the program archive

The archive opens in the archiver program installed by default.

Program Litemanager consists of 2 parts: the server part (Server) and the viewer (Viewer).

LitemanagerServer is installed on the computer you want to access.

LitemanagerViewer is installed on the computer from which you want to control another computer.

    I hope I explained it clearly... :)

You can, in principle, install both parts and from your computer you can control and be controlled. How... clever... 🙂 .

Well, here it is to install LitemanagerServer, run it to install

To scroll through the pictures, click " Back" or " Forward»

At some point the program will ask you to enter a password to access this computer, click “ Change/install»

We come up with and enter a password, click “ OK»

At the end of the installation, leave a checkmark to start the Litemanager server and click “ Finish»

A connection by ID window will appear where your ID will be generated, or you can enter your ID and click “ Connect»

If the connection is successful, the message “ Connected" Press the button " Options» to change connection options by ID

I set these options, I changed the general NoIP server to “ 1_New_noip" You set it at your own discretion, i.e. choose through which server your ID is connected stably

After applying the settings, click " Close»

To view and change other settings, right-click on the Litemanager icon in the system tray and select “ SettingsLM servers...»

A small window will appear that says “ Server settings", clicking on which opens an additional menu with a choice of LM server settings that you can customize “for yourself.” Let me just say that the menu item “ Connection byID"We have already set it up for you above...

    InstallationLiteManagerView

Installing LiteManager - View is similar to installing LiteManager - Server, there is nothing complicated here

After installation is complete, select the license type, “ LiteManagerPro" or " Free" I chose " Free" Click " OK»

    UsageLitemManager

The main program window will appear, in the main part of which all created connections will be displayed, and on the right side you can select the connection mode (control, viewing, files, demonstration, etc.)

To create a connection to another computer on which you have installed LiteManager-Server, go to the menu “ Compound» — « Add…»

In the " Compound"Come up with a name for the connection. Enter the ID and password of the managed computer

In the " Network and operating hours» select « Eco mode"if you and (or) your partner have low Internet speed. Click " OK»

An icon for the created connection will appear in the main program window. Depending on which mode is selected in the right half of the window, double-clicking on the connection will start a communication session with the remote computer

We start a remote control session with another computer and see its desktop. Now we can control it on our computer.

I will list the names of the icons that are located at the top of the remote desktop window...

    1. Settings
    2. Other modes
    3. Selecting a Remote Monitor
    4. Selecting a remote user session
    5. Mouse and Keyboard Control
    6. Lock input and screen
    7. Send Alt-Ctrl-Del
    8. Retrieve remote clipboard
    9. Set remote clipboard
    10. Screenshot
    11. Avi recording
    12. Pin
    13. Hide toolbar
    14. Active connections
    15. Close

When selecting " Other modes» a menu appears where you can use additional program options

For example, open file manager(File Transfer) to share files between computers

    ProgramAmmyy Admin

Of the three remote computer control programs described in this article, Ammyy admin is the simplest and does not require installation on a computer.

Download the program in the section " Download» official website. Click on the file name ( AMMYY Admin (exe) ) for download.

Note: At the time of writing, the programAmmyy admin could only be downloaded in browsers Internet Explorer And Opera.

    Run the downloaded file AA_vx.exe

Ammyy admin launches immediately without installation.

The main window can be roughly divided into two halves. In the left half of the window ( Client) your ID and IP are displayed. In the right half ( Operator) you can enter the client ID/IP and click the “ Connect» to access the remote computer.

Accordingly, in order for the connection to occur, the program must also be running on the remote computer Ammyy admin

I hasten to note that this program does not require a password to connect. When connecting to a remote computer, a window will appear in which you will need to select connection options and click the “ Allow» to agree to operate the computer. You can also check the box “ Remember my answer for of this operator "so that in the future the operator with this ID will connect without the client’s consent

After connecting, a window with the desktop of the remote computer will appear on your screen, on which you can work as if you were behind it

In addition to connecting to a remote desktop, it is also possible to launch a voice chat or file manager by selecting the appropriate menu items in the operator window

You can also take advantage of additional features during a remote desktop session

    1. Connection settings
    2. Encoding settings
    3. File manager
    4. Voice chat
    5. Desk
    6. Full screen mode
    7. Winkey
    8. Refresh screen
    9. Reconnect
    10. Actions for the remote computer

    For example, open File manager

Ammyy Admin also has an interesting option to run the application as a Windows service. This may be needed when access to a remote computer is needed without constantly running Ammyy Admin.

To install the Ammyy Admin service on a remote computer, in the main Ammyy Admin window go to the menu “ Ammyy» – « Service» — « Install»

The Ammyy Admin service will be installed and launched the next time you reboot. Click " OK»

The Ammyy Admin service can be started manually without waiting for the computer to restart. To do this, go to the menu “ Ammyy» — « Service» — « Launch»

A message will appear that the AA service is running, click “ OK»

In the future, to disable this service, go to Windows services, find the service AmmyyAdmin and uncheck the box next to it. Click " OK»

    Or in the main Ammyy Admin window go to the menu “ Ammyy» — « Service» — « Delete»

    Conclusion

In this article, we looked at the main three programs for accessing a remote computer, figured out how to install, configure and use these programs.

All programs deserve attention and have the right to life and further development. Each of them is good in its own way and has its own differences, although all of these programs perform the main role of connecting a remote desktop well.

I will still outline the main points when working with these programs:

    TeamViewer works great and is functional, but still for commercial use its cost is high;

    LiteManager more complex in settings, on my computer it had a low connection speed, especially with low Internet speeds, but it is free when connecting up to 30 computers and the ability to remotely control the computer without the user noticing;

AmmyyAdmin a simple program with the most necessary functionality, runs without installation, but is free only up to 15 hours per month.

By the way! If you want me to provide you with computer assistance using these programs, go to my section.

That's all for me, please write in the comments which remote access program you used and which one you liked the most.

Remote desktop software, more accurately called remote access software or remote control software, allows you to control one computer remotely from another. By remote control we really mean remote control remote control- you can take a mouse and keyboard and use the computer you are connected to just like your own.

Remote desktop software is truly useful for a variety of situations, from helping your dad who lives 500 miles away work through a computer problem, to remotely managing from your office in New York the dozens of servers you run in a Singapore data center!

Typically, accessing a computer remotely requires installing a piece of software on the computer you want to connect to, called host. Once this is done, another computer or device with the correct credentials, called client, can connect to the host and control it.

Don't let the technical aspects of remote desktop software scare you away. The best free remote access programs listed below require no more than a few clicks to get started—no special computer knowledge required.

Note. Remote Desktop is also the actual name of the built-in remote access tool in operating systems ah Windows. It is ranked alongside other tools, but we believe there are several remote control programs that do a better job.

    Remote access programs:

TeamViewer is the best free remote access software I've ever used. There are a ton of features that are always great, but also very easy to install. No changes to router or firewall configurations are required.

Thanks to video support, voice calls and text chat, TeamViewer also allows you to transfer files, supports Wake-on-LAN (WOL), can remotely monitor a user's iPhone or iPad screen, and even remotely reboot the PC into safe mode and then reconnect automatically.

    Host side

The computer you want to connect to with TeamViewer can be a Windows, Mac or Linux computer.

Full, installable version TeamViewer is an option here and is probably a safe bet if you're not sure what to do. A portable version called TeamViewer QuickSupport, is an excellent choice if the computer you want to remotely control will only need to be used once or if installing software on it is not possible. Third option - TeamViewer Hostbest choice, if you will be connecting to this computer regularly.

    Client side

TeamViewer has several options for connecting to the computer you want to control.

Installable and portable programs are available for Windows, Mac and Linux, as well as mobile applications for iOS, BlackBerry, Android and Windows Phone. Yes—that means you can use your phone or tablet to connect to your remote-controlled computers on the go.

TeamViewer also allows you to use a web browser to access your computer remotely.

A number of other features are also included, such as the ability to share one application window with someone else (instead of the entire desktop) and the ability to print remote files to local printer.

I suggest trying TeamViewer before any other program on this list.

The complete list of supported desktop operating systems for TeamViewer includes Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, 2000, Windows Server 2012/2008/2003, Windows Home Server, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS.

    Ammyy Admin

Ammyy Admin is free, fast and in a simple way obtaining remote access and remote desktop solutions for both individuals and businesses. Unlike powerful remote desktop software, the tool comes as a tiny application under 1 MB. In addition to connecting to another system remotely, you can also perform actions such as file transfer and chat. Windows supported, secure connection and easy software management make Ammyy Adminn one of the most preferred free clients remote desktop.

While it's free for non-commercial use, the Starter, Premium, and Corporate licensed tools are priced at $33.90, $66.90, and $99.90, respectively.

AnyDesk is a remote desktop program that can be portable or installed like a regular program.

    Host side

Launch AnyDesk on the PC you want to connect to and record AnyDesk-Address, or a custom alias if configured.

When the client connects, the host will be asked to allow or deny the connection, as well as manage permissions, such as allowing audio, clipboard, and the ability to block the host's keyboard/mouse control.

    Client side

On another computer, launch AnyDesk, and then enter the AnyDesk host address or alias in the " Remote desk " on the screen.

If automatic access is configured, the client does not need to wait for the host to accept the connection.

AnyDesk automatically updates and can login full screen mode, balance connection quality and speed, transfer files and audio, synchronize the clipboard, record a remote session, run keyboard shortcuts, take screenshots of the remote computer and restart the host computer.

AnyDesk works with Windows (10 to XP), MacOS and Linux.

AeroAdmin is perhaps the most simple program for free remote access. There are virtually no settings, and everything is fast and precise, which is ideal for spontaneous support.

    Host side

AeroAdmin is very similar to the TeamViewer program that tops this list. Just open portable program and share your IP address or given ID with someone else. This is how the client computer will know how to connect to the host.

    Client side

The client PC simply needs to run the same AeroAdmin program and enter the ID or IP address into their program. Before connecting, you can select " View only" or " Remote control" and then simply select " Connect" to request the remote control.

When the host computer confirms the connection, you can start controlling the computer, sharing clipboard text, and transferring files.

It's great that AeroAdmin is completely free for both personal and commercial use, but it's too bad that it doesn't include a chat option.

Another note to make is that although AeroAdmin is 100% free, it limits the number of hours you can use per month.

AeroAdmin can be installed on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 10, 8, 7 and XP.

    RemotePC

Pros: Simple, straightforward interface with a flat learning curve. Fast performance. Easily transfer files between local and remote desktops. Inexpensive.

Cons: Cannot display more than one remote monitor in the same window.

RemotePC is one of best apps with remote access, offering identical features on PCs and Macs, high performance and a minimal but intuitive interface.

Remote Utilities is a free remote access program with some really great features. It works by linking two remote computers together with what they call an "Internet ID". You can control a total of 10 PCs using Remote Utilities.

    Host side

Install part of the remote utilities called " Host on a Windows PC" to have constant access to it. You also have the option to run Agent, which provides native support without installing anything—it can even be run from a flash drive.

The host computer is given an Internet ID which they must use in order for the client to establish a connection.

    Client side

Program Viewer used to connect to host or agent software.

The viewer can be loaded on its own or in a combo file Viewer + Host. You can also download portable Viewer version, if you don't want to install anything.

Connecting the viewer to the host or agent is done without any changes to the router, such as port forwarding, simplifying setup. The customer simply needs to enter an online identification number and password.

There are also client applications, which can be downloaded for free iOS users and Android.

With the viewer, you can use various modules so that you can access your computer remotely without even viewing the screen, although screen viewing is definitely the main feature of Remote Utilities.

Some of the Remote Utilities modules are: Remote Task Manager, File Transfer, Power Management for Remote Reboot or WOL, Remote Terminal (Command Line Access), Remote File Launch, System Information Manager, Text Chat, Remote Registry Access, and Remote View webcams.

In addition to these features, Remote Utilities also supports remote printing and multi-monitor viewing.

Unfortunately, configuring Remote Utilities can be confusing on the host computer, as there are many different options.

Remote utilities can be installed on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP, as well as on Windows Server 2012, 2008 and 2003.

Another remote access program is UltraVNC. UltraVNC works a bit like Remote Utilities, where server And viewer installed on two PCs and the viewer is used to manage the server.

    Host side

When you install UltraVNC you are asked if you want to install Server , Viewer or both. Install the server on the PC you want to connect to.

You can install UltraVNC Server as a system service so that it always works. This ideal option, so you can always connect to it using client software.

    Client side

To establish a connection to the UltraVNC server, you must install the Viewer part during setup.

Once you set up port forwarding on your router, you can access the UltraVNC server from anywhere using an Internet connection - either through a mobile device that supports VNC connections or a PC with installed by the program viewer or internet browser. All you need is the server's IP address to establish the connection.

UltraVNC supports file transfer, text chat, clipboard sharing, and can even boot and connect to a server in safe mode.

The download page is a bit confusing - first select the latest version of UltraVNC, then select the 32-bit or 64-bit installer that will work with your version of Windows.

Users of Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and Windows Server 2012, 2008 and 2003 can install and use UltraVNC.

    Windows Remote Desktop

Windows Remote Desktop is remote access software built into the Windows operating system. No additional download is required to use the program.

    Host side

To enable connection to a computer with using Windows Remote Desktop, you must open settings system properties(available from the control panel) and allow remote connections through a certain Windows user through the " Remote ».

You really must configure the router to forward ports so another computer can connect to it from the network side, but this is usually not a big hassle to complete.

    Client side

Another computer that wants to connect to the host computer must simply open the already installed software to connect to remote desktop and enter the host's IP address.

Advice. You can open Remote Desktop from the Launch dialog box (open it using the shortcut Windows Key + R); just enter Mstsc command to run it.

Most of the other programs on this list have features that Windows Remote Desktop doesn't, but this remote access method seems to be the most natural and easiest way to control the mouse and keyboard of a remote Windows PC.

Once everything is set up, you can transfer files, print to a local printer, listen to audio from a remote PC, and transfer clipboard contents.

    Remote Desktop Availability

Windows Remote Desktop can be used on Windows from XP to Windows 10.

However, while all versions of Windows can connect to other computers with inbound connections enabled, not all versions of Windows can act as a host (i.e., accept incoming remote access requests).

If you are using version Home Premium or below, your computer can only act as a client and therefore cannot be deleted remotely (but it can access other computers remotely).

Incoming remote access is only allowed for professional, corporate And final Windows versions. In these editions, others can be deleted into the computer as described above.

Something else to remember is that Remote Desktop will log out the user if they are logged in when someone connects to that user's account remotely. This is very different from any other program on this list - everyone else can remotely connect to a user's account while the user is still actively using the computer.

Chrome Remote Desktop is an extension for the Google Chrome browser that allows you to set up your computer for remote access from any other computer running Google Chrome.

    Host side

The way this works is that you install the extension in Google Chrome and then provide authorization to remotely access that PC using a personal PIN that you create yourself.

To do this you need to log in to your account. Google entry, for example, information about your Gmail account or YouTube.

    Client side

To connect to the host browser, sign in to Chrome Remote Desktop through another web browser (it must be Chrome) using the same Google credentials or using a temporary passcode generated by the host computer.

Since you are logged in, you can easily see the other PC name from where you can simply select it and start the remote session.

In Chrome Remote Desktop (copy and paste only) no similar functions file sharing or chat that you see in similar programs, but they are very easy to set up and allow you to connect to your computer (or anyone) from anywhere using just your web browser.

Moreover, you can work remotely on the computer when the user is not opening Chrome, or even when they are completely logged out of the user account.

Because Chrome Remote Desktop runs entirely within the Google Chrome browser, it can work with any operating system that uses Chrome, including Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebooks.

Seecreen (formerly called Firnass) is an extremely tiny (500KB) but powerful free remote access program that is ideal for instant, on-demand support.

    Host side

Open the program on the computer you want to monitor. After creating an account and logging in, you can add other users to the menu by their email address or username.

Adding a client to the Without Participation section allows them to have automatic access to the computer.

    Client side

To connect to the host computer using Seecreen, another user needs to enter the host ID and password.

Screen sharing must be initiated from the client computer.

Seecreen does not support clipboard synchronization.

Seecreen is a JAR file that uses Java to run. All versions of Windows are supported, as well as operating systems Mac systems and Linux

LiteManager is another remote access program, and it is strikingly similar to the one we talk about above.

However, unlike Remote Utilities, which can only control 10 PCs, LiteManager supports up to 30 slots for storage and connection to remote computers, and has many useful features.

    Host side

The computer you want to access must install the program LiteManager ProServer.msi(it's free) which is included in the downloaded ZIP file.

There are many ways to provide connectivity to a host computer. This can be done using an IP address, computer name, or ID.

The easiest way to set this up is to right-click the server program in the taskbar notification area, select " , erase content that already exists, and click " Connected" to create a new ID.

    Client side

Another program called Viewer is installed to connect the client to the host. After the host computer has issued the ID, the client must enter it from the " Connect by ID" in the menu " Compound", to establish a remote connection with another computer.

Once connected, the client can do all sorts of things using Remote Utilities, such as working with multiple monitors, transferring files in the background, gaining full control or read-only access on another PC, running a remote task manager, running files and programs remotely , record audio, edit registry, create demos, lock another person's screen and keyboard, and text chat.

There is also a QuickSupport option, which is a portable program for servers and viewers that makes the connection much faster than the above method.

I tested LiteManager on Windows 10, but it should also work fine on Windows 8, 7, Vista and XP. This program is also available for macOS.

Comodo Unite is another free remote access program that creates secure VPN connection between several computers. Once the VPN is established, you can remotely access applications and files through the client software.

    Host side

Install Comodo Unite on the computer you want to control, and then create an account with Comodo Unite. Account is how you keep track of the PCs you add to your account, so it's easy to connect.

    Client side

To connect to the Comodo Unite host computer, simply install the same software and then log in with the same username and password. You can then simply select the computer you want to monitor and begin your VPN session immediately.

Files can only be shared when you start a chat, so it's not as easy to share files with Comodo Unite as it is with other remote desktop programs on this list. However, the chat is protected in VPN, which you cannot find in similar software.

Only Windows 7, Vista and XP (32-bit and 64-bit) are officially supported, but I was able to get Comodo Unite to function the same as it does on Windows 10 and Windows 8.

Note. Comodo Unite has been replaced by Comodo ONE, but it is still available for download and is more suitable for most people.

ShowMyPC is a portable and free remote access program that is almost identical to UltraVNC (number 3 on this list) but uses a password to connect instead of an IP address.

    Host side

Launch ShowMyPC on any computer and then select " Show my computer" to obtain a unique identification number called common password .

    Client side

Open the same ShowMyPC program on another computer and enter the ID from the main program to establish a connection. Instead, the customer can enter the number on the ShowMyPC website (in the "View PC" field) and launch the Java version of the program in their browser.

There are additional options here that are not available in UltraVNC, such as using a webcam through a web browser and scheduled meetings, which allow someone to connect to your PC via a personal web link that launches the Java version of ShowMyPC.

ShowMyPC clients can only send a limited number of keyboard shortcuts to the host computer.

Select ShowMyPC Free on the download page to get demon paid version. It works on all versions of Windows.

join.me is a remote access program from the manufacturers of LogMeIn that provides quick access to another computer via an Internet browser.

    Host side

A person requiring remote assistance can download and run join.me software, which allows the entire computer to be displayed or just a selected application to a remote facility viewing. This is done by choosing launch buttons.

    Client side

The remote viewer simply needs to enter the personal join.me code into their own installation under connections .

join.me supports full screen, conference calling, text chat, multiple monitors, and allows you to view up to 10 participants simultaneously.

The client can visit instead home page join.me to enter the code for the host computer without having to download any software. The code must be entered in the MEETING CONNECTION field.

All versions of Windows can install join.me, as well as Mac.

Note. Download join.me for free using the small download link below the paid options.

    WebEx Free

While it's free for 3 people, paid plans include Premium 8 ($24 per month for eight members), Premium 25 ($49 per month for 25 people), and Premium 100 ($89 per month for up to 100 people).

    Supreme

Supremo offers free and paid plans to remotely manage PCs/servers and host Meetings. It allows multiple connections only through ID and password exchange and can be configured to automatic access. No router configuration or firewalls make it a great solution for fast support, even with iOS devices and Android. Supremo is a secure application thanks to its cryptographic TLS protocol 1.2 and can be customized with your brand/logo.

Free for personal use, it provides a highly flexible and affordable commercial offering. Users can choose between business and solo plans, depending on the number of simultaneous sessions. Both can be billed annually or quarterly, starting at 8€/month for unlimited installation on an unlimited number of devices.

    RD Tabs

The built-in Windows Remote Desktop Connection utility is a bit basic; it offers few options, and multiple connections fill the taskbar, making it difficult to navigate between desktops. If you regularly access multiple remote computers or just want a better remote desktop client, check out RD Tabs from Avian Waves. It uses a tabbed interface to manage open remote connections with familiar functionality similar to existing browsers, keeping everything in one place. DesktopNow is a free remote access program from NCH Software. After optionally forwarding the correct port number to the router and registering for a free account, you can access your computer from anywhere via a web browser.

    Host side

To access your computer remotely, you must install DesktopNow software.

When the program is launched for the first time, you must enter your email address and password so that you can use the same credentials on the client side to establish the connection.

The host computer can either configure its router to forward the proper port number to itself, or choose cloud access during installation to make a direct connection to the client, bypassing the need for complex forwarding.

It's probably best for most people to use the direct cloud access method to avoid port forwarding issues.

    Client side

The client simply needs to access the host via a web browser. If the router has been configured to forward the port number, the client will use the host PC's IP address to connect. If cloud access was selected, a specific link would be provided to the host you would use to connect.

DesktopNow has a good file sharing feature that allows you to upload your shared files remotely into an easy-to-use file browser.

Doesn't exist special application to connect to DesktopNow from a mobile device, so trying to view and control your computer from your phone or tablet may be difficult. However, the site is optimized for mobile phones, so viewing your shared files very simple.

Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP are supported, even 64-bit versions.

Another free one portable program remote access - BeamYourScreen. This program works like some of the others on this list, where the presenter is given an ID number that they must provide to the other user so they can connect to the presenter's screen.

    Host side

BeamYourScreen hosts are called hosts, so the program BeamYourScreen for organizers (Portable) is the preferred method that the host computer should use to accept remote connections. It's quick and easy to start screen sharing without having to install anything.

There is also a version that can be installed called BeamYourScreen for organizers (installation) .

    Client side

Customers can also install a portable or installable version of BeamYourScreen, but there is a special program BeamYourScreen for participants, which is a small executable file, which can be launched similarly to the portable one for organizers.

Enter the host session number in the section session ID programs to join the session.

Once connected, you can control the screen, share text and clipboard files, and chat with text.

BeamYourScreen works with all versions of Windows, as well as Windows Server 2008 and 2003, Mac and Linux.

    GoToMyPC

Pros: Simple interface. Works mainly from the browser. Drag and drop file transfer. Desktop icons for remote computers. Smooth support for multiple monitors. Opportunity direct connection online or via the Internet.

Cons: Distracting message from the test server while the computer is booting. Slightly reduced functionality when using a Mac system.

Bottom Line: GoToMyPC is a mature, easy-to-use remote access program with the best available balance between features and ease of use. If you don't need support for Linux or enterprise-level systems, this is the app you want.

    VNC Connect

Pros: support several platforms. Relatively simple interface. Fairly inexpensive subscription plans, including a free plan for personal use.

Cons: separate server and viewer applications make setup confusing. No dragging and dropping of files between the viewing application and the desktop. Do not send one-time invitations from a remote computer.

VNC Connect is rugged, secure and easy to use once you get the hang of it. It has fewer features than other enterprise-level remote access software, but it is also much cheaper.

    Microsoft Remote Desktop

Microsoft introduced remote desktop apps for Android and iOS a few years ago, but this one is ideal for accessing Windows computers. It's also free with no usage restrictions, and unlike Chrome Remote Desktop, the setup process is a bit more complicated, but only the first time you go through it.

    Where is LogMeIn?

Unfortunately, free product LogMeIn, LogMeIn Free, is no longer available. This was one of the most popular free services remote access available, so it's too bad it's gone.

LogMeIn also runs join.me, which still works and is listed above.

Remote computer access via the Internet will allow you to control your PC, even if it is located thousands of kilometers from your location.

The technology works on the principle of assigning a unique identifier to the user on the global network. Using this data, a connection to remote control is made.

The function can be configured both using the operating system functions Windows systems, and with the help of additional programs (their use is usually free).

Notice! In order to access a remote computer through another PC, the remote PC must be turned on and have an Internet connection. Also, the function or program that allows for remote connection must be enabled on both devices.

Using the Internet ID feature in Windows

Assigning a unique identification number on the network can significantly simplify the connection process.

Using this feature, computers no longer need to configure the reverse connection process each time.

Also, the Internet ID function is quite easy to use and even an ordinary user can configure its operation.

How does Internet ID work? The connection of two computers occurs through a connection to a single Host.

The interface is displayed using the NAT protocol or standard firewall.

Follow the instructions below to set up remote access to your PC yourself using the Internet ID option:

    • First, you need to obtain an identifier with which two computers can establish a connection. The procedure for issuing an identifier is carried out by the host free of charge;
    • Some builds of Windows may not have a previously installed utility. You can download it from the link http://db.repairdll.org/internetidadmin.exe/ru-download-50.html.
    • Install the tool on both computers and get started;
    • After installation, a host icon will appear on the desktop toolbar. Right-click on it and select connection settings;

    • Then in the new window, click on the appropriate button to obtain an Internet ID. This procedure must be done on the computer from which another PC will be controlled;

    • After a few seconds, a window will appear with a text field in which an identifier will be indicated that allows remote connection of two PCs. Remember it, because without specifying the identifier on another PC, you will not be able to set up a connection;

    • Now you need to perform several actions on the client personal computer (to which you will connect). Run the installed utility, select the operating mode as “Client”;
    • Click on the button to create a new connection and in the window that opens, specify the name of the connection and the identifier itself. You can choose any name, and the Internet ID must match the one issued on the first PC. Click on the OK key;

    • Next, the connection properties will open. Select the connection mode via ID as shown in the figure below and enter it again in the corresponding text field;

Now wait a few seconds and wait for the connection to complete.

In subsequent attempts to gain remote access to another PC, you will need to enter only the identifier on the administrator’s side, and on the client’s side, select the previously created connection template.

In addition to the proposed method for setting up remote access, you can use special programs that are even easier to set up.

    TeamViewer program

TeamViewer is one of the most popular applications to create a connection and work with remote access to a computer.

The main feature of the utility: the user does not need to deal with the client and server parts of the program separately.

You just need to install the program on both computers and set up the connection in a few mouse clicks.

After the first startup, the application window displays the personal computer ID and access password.

To connect to another computer, just enter its ID in the Partner ID field and click the Connect button.

    TeamViewer benefits:

    1. Availability of several modes of operation of two computers at once: remote access, file and folder transfer mode, VPN;
    2. During the connection, you can open a chat window, this will allow two users to communicate in real time, without being distracted by other instant messengers;
    3. To ensure full-scale system administration Another PC can be connected to the option of 24/7 remote access. In inactive mode, the function consumes few resources and does not load personal computers;
    4. Speed and stable connection. Thanks to the availability of quality hosts, users do not face the problem of access failure (this only happens in case of poor connection to global network Internet);
    5. Please note that TeamViewer cannot be used for commercial purposes. The developer has built into the program a utility for determining a commercial connection. If it is detected, access to the PC will be immediately blocked.

If you want to use modules for corporate connection, you will need to buy a paid version of the application.

    Ammy admin

This program allows you to access the function of remote control of another PC. The functionality is very similar to the Team Viewer described above.

Available operating modes include the ability to view and remotely control another user's personal computer or laptop.

The program can be used without installing it on two devices. All you need to do is open the portable version on your computer.

The utility is not intended for use in commercial organizations or enterprises.

Download Ammy admin can be found on the developer’s official website at http://www.ammyy.com/ru/.

To get started, launch Ammy admin on both computers. Then enter the server computer ID on the client computer. Click on the “Connect” button.

The connection diagram is also shown in Figure 8.

This application is more suitable for organizing a one-time connection than for long-term and regular work.

Among the advantages over other similar software are a simplified connection process, an intuitive interface and high speed work.

Among the disadvantages of the application, it can be noted that it is not available on mobile devices and tablets. There is also no mode for transferring folders and files.

Use of the program is limited to fifteen hours per month. This feature is designed to eliminate the possibility of commercial use.

Hello to all site readers! Please advise program for remote computer control. I want to control a computer at work from home or control a home computer from work. Sometimes there is also a desire to help friends decide computer problems install remotely, for example, without leaving home to a friend (living on the other side of town) antivirus program, set up Skype, remove the virus, and so on. It is desirable that the program be free, and you do not need to register anywhere, that is, download it, launch it and work. Sergey.

    Program for remote computer control

Hello friends! Without a doubt, such programs are free, and TeamViewer, today’s article is about the latter, it is free for personal use, works without installation, can be carried on a flash drive, and you can register if you wish, now see for yourself.
    I'll give you two instructions.
    1) How to use TeamViewer quickly and without registration.

    2) In the second part of the article, we will look at what registration in the TeamViewer program will give us. Registration in the program will help us connect to a remote computer from anywhere and we won’t even need a partner.

The TeamViewer program is so easy to use that all my friends, even those who are very far from computer matters, also got used to using it. When, for example, something is not working correctly in their operating system, they immediately launch the “little blue program with arrows” and call me. They say, come on, help, your program has already been launched, ID is such and such, password is such and such.

There was such an interesting incident in my life. One of my friends asked me to install several free programs on his laptop with Windows 7, he himself was in another country at that time, with the help programs for remote computer control TeamViewer's plan has come true. Any advanced user can give you hundreds of similar cases when, using TeamViewer, he helped his friends fix some kind of problem in the operating system. Now it’s your turn to get acquainted with this program, if you are not already familiar.

Go to the program website http://www.teamviewer.com/ru and click “Free full version”

The program installer is downloaded to our computer,

Let's launch it. Check the box “Run only” and “Personal/non-commercial use”. Accept - run.

Pay attention to the main program window. TeamViewer has assigned an ID and password to our computer. If you tell them to your partner, he can easily connect to your computer.

How will he do this? Yes, very simple! On the remote computer you need to do the same thing, namely, launch the TeamViewer program and check the “Launch only” and Personal/non-commercial use checkboxes. Accept - run.

On the remote computer, the TeamViewer program will start in exactly the same way with its own ID number and password.
Then your partner will enter your identification number ID - 394032155 and click on the Connect to partner button,

The Password field will immediately appear. Your partner enters the password 2917 and clicks Login.

That's all, your partner has connected to your computer and sees your desktop, he can work in the same way as at his desktop. In exactly the same way, you can get onto your partner’s computer. Enter his ID and password in the program and help your friend remotely.

What does registration in the TeamViewer program give and how to set up uncontrolled access

If you register for TeamViewer, you will have a much better experience using the program. You will have your own account (permanent ID and password) and with it you can very easily set up permanent access to the computers you need. For example, from your home you can log into your work computer, and from your work computer to your home computer; for this you just need the computer to be turned on. There is no need to specifically launch TeamViewer on a remote computer; after installing the program, the TeamViewer service will constantly run in the operating system.
Install the TeamViewer program, for example on your home computer desktop computer. Let's launch the installer. During installation, select "Install so you can manage this computer remotely" and "personal/non-commercial use." Check "Show Additional settings". Accept - next.

    Ready.

Installed on me ( cool program, I recommend) signaled that the TeamViewer service went into startup.

    Set up uncontrolled access.

Enter the invented Computer Name (account) and password. Next.

Create a TeamViewer account for free. Enter your name, email and password. Next.

    Ready.

Let's go to our mailbox, find the letter from TeamViewer and confirm our account, click on the link.

Now, when you start the TeamViewer program, this computer will have a permanent ID and password for the account.

Let's say it's ours home computer. You can connect to it like this. On any other computer (for example, we have a laptop and it is at work), launch TeamViewer, and simply check the “Launch only” and Personal/non-commercial use checkboxes. Accept - complete. Enter the ID code. As we can see, the program keeps a log, so we simply select our account and click “Connect to a partner”,

    Enter the account password

And we can control our home computer.
In the same way, you can control your work computer from home.

There are a lot of programs for organizing remote access. There are paid and free programs, there are programs for different operating systems. It is clear that in this article we will not be able to consider everything at once, but we will talk about the most interesting of them, and most importantly, we will understand what is more effective for a particular task.

    Radmin (shareware)

About ten years ago popular program for remote access there was Radmin, it still exists (www.radmin.ru) - it has not gone anywhere during this time. Let's start the review with it.

The program consists of two parts: Server and Viewer. The first one runs on a remote computer (or remote computers), and the second one runs on your computer and is used to connect to the remote machines that you are going to configure. On the developers' website you can download both the complete set and individual components. There is also a portable version of Viewer that works without installation, and the Radmin Server 3.5 NTI version is special version without an icon in the tray, that is, the user of the remote computer will not know that Radmin is installed on it until you start managing his computer.

I'll note key features: support for Windows 8 32/64 bit, support for switching user sessions in Windows XP/Vista/7/8, compatibility with Wine (Radmin can organize remote access to a PC under Linux control via Wine), Telnet support, remote PC shutdown, Radmin server scanner (allows you to find all the PCs that you can manage on your network), file transfer between Server and Viewer.

    Conclusions:

    • Program functionality: it has its own authentication and support voice chat, and the ability to transfer files. Everything is very convenient.
    • Due to the fact that Server is installed on the remote computer, the presence of the user is not required, as in other similar programs. For example, you can administer the remote PCs of your colleagues when they go to lunch. In other similar programs, it is necessary either for the user to allow the connection, or for the user to provide you with a password, which is generated automatically with each communication session.
    • Low system requirements, the program does not load the processor at all, which is especially important for my old laptop with an AMD processor, which gets hot like an iron - it acted as a “remote” computer.
    • Just running Server is not enough; you also need to configure it.
    • Many users love TeamViewer not for its functionality, but because it does not require any special ports (it uses port 80 by default) and does not require any firewall settings. Radmin Server uses port 4899, and it will not be possible to run it without setting up a firewall.
    • No mobile clients.
    • Does not support other OS.

    TeamViewer (freeware)

Nowadays, TeamViewer is probably the most popular remote access program. You can download its full version from www.teamviewer.com/ru and not pay a penny. For non-commercial use the program is absolutely free.

    Rice. 4. TeamViewer is running

TeamViewer pleases with support for Windows, OS X, Linux, which was so lacking in Radmin. There are also mobile clients for Android, iPad/iPhone: you can control a remote computer from your iPhone. There is also a Portable version of the program for Windows, which is very useful for infrequent use of the program, and the Portable version can be run both on the “server” and on the “client”, unlike Radmin, where you can only run the client (Viewer) without installation, but the “server” part must be installed.

After starting the program, you will see the main TeamViewer window and the “Computers and Contacts” window (Fig. 4). If you plan to help all your relatives and colleagues at once, you can click the “Register” button, create an account, and then in this window you will see all the numerous computers that you have set up.

    Rice. 5. TeamViewer in action

Now let's figure out what is what. If you need to connect to your computer, then you must tell the remote party your ID (in in this case 969 930 547) and password (8229). How to communicate, decide for yourself - you can copy and transmit these values via Skype, ICQ, email, SMS, or simply dictate over the phone. This password changes every time the program is started. If the program is installed on your computer, you can make a permanent personal password, but I do not recommend it: the password can be compromised and then anyone can connect to your computer.

If you need to connect to a remote computer, then you need to enter the ID of the remote party (in this case 411108007) and click the “Connect to partner” button, after which the program will ask you to enter the password that you received from the remote party. That's all - in the window that appears, you can configure the remote computer (Fig. 5).

You've probably already noticed the main difference from Radmin: you need to give the password to the person setting up the computer, but in Radmin the password is specified when creating a user account. In other words, the user must be present at the computer. The question is, how can you organize a home office when you want to access your work computer from home, for example, at night? It's very simple. You need to organize TeamViewer autostart (for example, add it to the “Startup” group or register it in the registry in the Run key) and set a “Personal password”. Please note that you cannot set a personal password if the program is not installed on your computer, but is launched without installation.

There is one more program you should know about: TeamViewer Host. It runs as a system service and is used for 24/7 access to a remote computer, including logging in/out. It turns out that TeamViewer Host allows you to organize a terminal server, and it supports an unlimited number of clients for one server (the number of clients is limited only by the computing capabilities of your computer). It should also be noted that to install TeamViewer Host you need administrator rights, which are not always available, so in most cases you will still use regular TeamViewer. However, if you need to set up just one computer (or simply organize remote access to it, say, from home), then TeamViewer Host is not needed. For the sake of fairness, it should be noted that if a regular TeamViewer (not Host) is running on computer A, then computers B, C, D (the number three is given as an example) can connect to it for joint administration. Another thing is that it is necessary to coordinate the actions of administrators, since the keyboard and mouse are shared, but one can configure, the rest will observe.

Like Radmin, TeamViewer allows you to share files, voice and text messages, as well as remotely reboot the computer (the required command is in the “Actions” menu, see Fig. 5; simply rebooting the computer is not enough - then the TeamViewer communication session will not be established; you only need to reboot the computer while setting it up through the “Actions” menu) .

    Conclusions:

    • Simplicity (the program is simpler than Radmin - a huge advantage for untrained users who will have to install it on the remote side).
    • The program does not require installation at all: both on the client and on the server. Installation is optional.
    • It works through port 80 (and some additional ports), so it does not require firewall configuration.
    • Availability of versions for other OS.
    • Availability of mobile clients for Android, iOS and Windows Phone 8 (that is, you can control a remote computer directly from your iPad).
    • Possibility of organizing interactive conferences (up to 25 participants).
    • Does not require administrator rights for remote access.
    • It loads the processor noticeably more than Radmin, my old laptop even overheated and turned off.
    • Although there are mobile clients, they are not very convenient (however, this is better than nothing).

    Royal TS (shareware)

Once upon a time there was such a program - mRemote. I don’t know what happened there, but the mRemote project was closed, and the developers went and created another project - Royal TS. On the site you will find versions for Windows, OS X and iOS (can be run from iPhone and iPad).

In Royal TS, before creating a connection, you need to create a document, that is, one connection = one document. Royal TS documents are a very convenient thing; they can be transferred as regular files, for example to another admin. He will be able to open such a document and immediately connect to a remote computer without having to create a connection manually. The shareware version has a limit on the number of simultaneous open documents- ten. As for me, this is quite enough for non-commercial use of the program, so in practice you won’t even notice that you are missing something (unless, of course, you remotely administer a huge network of computers).

First of all, it must be said that this program is radically different from Radmin and TeamViewer. Both of these programs combine the functionality of both server and client (in the case of Radmin, the server and client are different programs, in the case of TeamViewer they are the same program). In other words, on one of the computers you can install Radmin Server or TeamViewer, and on the other you can use Radmin Viewer or TeamViewer, respectively, to connect to this remote computer. So, Royal TS is something like Radmin Viewer, that is, a program for connecting to a remote server, but you will have to create the server yourself. How you do it is your problem. Royal TS will not help you create such a server, but only let you connect to it.

Rice. 6. Royal TS for Windows

Among the protocols for connecting to a remote server that Royal TS supports: RDP, Telnet, SSH, Citrix, VNC. The RDP/Telnet/SSH and other servers themselves will have to be configured independently.

On the one hand, this is beyond the scope of the article, on the other hand, it would be incomplete if I did not give an example of setting up at least one of the servers that Royal TS supports. SSH/Telnet servers, I think, will not be very interesting to the reader. I want something graphic. Let's say we have Linux (Ubuntu or its clone) and need to configure a VNC server. To do this, first install the VNC server with the command:

    Sudo apt-get install vnc4server

After that, you need to run it - for the first time without parameters:

    Sudo vnc4server

When running the sudo vnc4server command, you need to enter a password that will be used to connect to this VNC server. The password itself will be saved in $HOME/.vnc/passwd. I won’t say another word - there is man :). After the first launch, you need to launch vnc4server, specifying the screen number:

    Sudo vnc4server:3

Next, in Royal TS you need to create a new document (on the File tab), then go to the Edit tab and click the VNC button. In the window that appears (Fig. 7), you need to enter the display name (Display Name) - in our case: 3, the IP address of the VNC server and specify the port number (usually 5900). The password will be requested when connecting to the server.

    Rice. 7. VNC connection parameters

    Conclusions:

    • A universal client for connecting to a remote server using various protocols.
    • There are versions for Windows, OS X and iOS.
    • It is impossible to organize remote access using Royal TS alone; additional programs are needed.
    • Not suitable for remote configuration of computers for inexperienced users - they simply will not be able to configure the necessary remote access services.

    Supremo: free and simple (freeware)

Let's analyze the situation. If you don’t like TeamViewer or you can’t use it for some reason (including the need to purchase a license for commercial use), and Radmin is also not suitable for some reason, then you’ll have to look for analogues. Since the article is about simple and free programs, then the following program must be: a) free; b) simple. This is the Supremo program, which can be downloaded from the website.

The program (Fig. 8) was created “in the image and likeness” of TeamViewer. It does not require installation, its operating principle is the same as that of TeamViewer, it even uses the same terminology (this is me regarding the partner ID and other inscriptions in the program interface).

The computer you are setting up and the support technician's computer must be running Windows only. Various are supported Windows editions, in that including Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Nothing has been said about support for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 on the official website yet.

    Rice. 8. Supremo program

The algorithm for using it is simple: you need to run the program on both computers, then ask the remote party for its ID and password, and then click the “Connect” button. Before this, the remote party must press the “Start” button, otherwise the connection will not be allowed. Perhaps this is the only difference from TeamViewer.

To make the review more complete, let's go to the program settings (Tools -> Options). In the “Security” section (Fig. 9), you can configure automatic launch of the program, specify a password for remote connections, and indicate which IDs are allowed to connect to your computer.

    Rice. 9. Supremo Security Options

In the “Connection” section (Fig. 10), you can specify the parameters of the proxy server, if it is present on your network.

    Rice. 10. Supremo connection parameters

In addition to its direct purpose, namely remote computer control, the program can be used to exchange files. To exchange files (which is possible in two directions - both downloading and uploading) simply use drag & drop.

    Conclusions:

    • Easy to use.
    • No installation required.
    • Ability to transfer files.
    • Chat option.
    • Does not require firewall configuration (uses HTTPS/SSL).
    • There is no support for operating systems other than Windows.
    • No mobile clients.

    LogMeIn (freeware)

Let's look at one more useful program- LogMeIn (Fig. 11). The purpose of this program is the same as all the others discussed in this article - remote access. You will find several similar products on the logmein.com website, but we are primarily interested in the LogMeIn Free product. Its capabilities are quite sufficient for most purposes: access to a computer running Windows or OS X, remote control and viewing of the desktop, copying and pasting data between computers, reboot function, chat, support for multiple monitors, intrusion detection via SSL/TLS protocol, etc. requires configuration of firewall settings, does not require administrator rights on the remote computer.

Personally, I liked the functions of copying and pasting data between computers, as well as the reboot function: during the process of setting up the computer, sometimes you need to reboot it, after which the remote access session will be automatically restored, which is very convenient.

Unlike the Free version, the Pro version supports file transfer between computers, HD video, dragging and dropping files between computers and several other functions that are hardly worth paying almost 53 euros per year - that’s what the Pro version costs. A comparison of these two versions, as well as the OS X version, can be read at: https://secure.logmein.com/comparisonchart/comparisonFPP.aspx.

    Rice. 11. LogMeIn main window

The way this program works is slightly different from TeamViewer and similar programs. It's a little more complicated, but apparently this is how the LogMeIn developers determine who uses the program and for what purposes. In the main window, select “from Mac or PC” and then you will see the sequence of actions that need to be performed to give another user access to this computer (Fig. 12). Grandfather and grandmother will definitely get confused and not appreciate it. You can’t do without registering on logmein.com; although it is free, in terms of convenience it is completely unnecessary.

Rice. 12. How to connect to this PC

There is, however, a simpler way - anonymous access through a browser. Quite an interesting feature that is not found in other similar programs. The idea is this: a user who wants you to set up his computer creates an invitation link, then sends it to anyone in a convenient way to you (by email, Skype, etc.). The invitation link is valid for a certain time (the time is set by the remote user), even if someone spies on the link, he is unlikely to be able to use it after the expiration date.

Let's look at how to create an invitation and how to use it. The Desktop Sharing section displays your current invitations. By clicking the “Send invitation” button, you can generate that same link. The New Invitation Wizard allows you to determine the duration of the invitation and how you want to send the invitation (you can send an email with a link, or you can simply receive a link and send it manually).

Rice. 13. Controlling a remote computer via browser

Then this link needs to be sent to the person who will be setting up the computer. When he copies it into the browser and opens it, he will see a screen similar to the one shown in Fig. 13. To continue, click the “Continue” button. After which the user who sent the link will receive two requests sequentially. The first request is a request to allow access to the guest, the second request is to grant access rights (Fig. 20). The guest can either fully control the computer, or only view the desktop without control.

    Conclusions:

    • Does not require administrator rights.
    • Does not require firewall configuration.
    • Ability to use a browser for remote control.
    • Mobile clients.
    • Some unusual principle work.

Mosh (mobile shell): a good alternative for SSH

Mosh can also be used for remote console access (that is, you can execute commands remotely and see their results). The main advantage of Mosh over SSH is the ability to roam, that is, change the network on the client machine, which is useful on the road when the network can change (now it is cellular, in a few minutes - Wi-Fi, while the IP changes, but the connection remains). Frequently traveling admins will appreciate this. But there is one big drawback: Mosh will not connect to a regular SSH server, which means you will have to install Mosh on the server. But Mosh does not work as a daemon, like SSH, but as regular program, that is, root access is not required to run it. Mosh is available for many Linux and BSD distributions, OS X, iOS (as part of the popular iSSH client) and Android.

    UltraVNC/RealVNC

VNC ( Virtual Network Computing) is a system for remote access to a computer desktop using the RFB (Remote FrameBuffer) protocol. Previously, it was shown how to organize a VNC server in Linux; in Windows, such a server can be created using the UltraVNC or RealVNC programs. UltraVNC is similar to RealVNC, but has additional features like encrypting the connection between client and server, Java module Viewer (access to a remote PC via a browser with Java support) and others. Although RealVNC has a VNC Viewer plugin for Google Chrome, so there is no need for Java Viewer. As already noted, the programs are largely similar, so in this article we will only consider UltraVNC.

At installing UltraVNC It is possible to install both a VNC server and a VNC client. If you don’t need remote access to your computer, you don’t need to install a VNC server. When installing a VNC server, you will be able to configure it to run as a system service, but this requires administrator rights. The RFB protocol that VNC uses typically uses ports 5900–5906. Therefore, to connect via VNC you need to configure a firewall, otherwise it will kill the connection.

To connect to the VNC server, use the UltraVNC Viewer program. The program is universal, and you can use it to connect to any VNC server, not just the one running UltraVNC Server. Similarly, you can connect to a server created by the UltraVNC Server program using the RoyalTS program or any other VNC client.

A few words about how it all works. First, launch the UltraVNC Edit Settings program and on the Security tab set a password to access the VNC server, then you need to launch the UltraVNC Server program. Then, on another computer, launch UltraVNC Viewer (Fig. 14) and enter the IP of the computer on which the VNC server is installed, and click the Connect button.

    Rice. 14.UltraVNC Viewer

    Conclusions:

    • You need administrator rights, you need to configure a firewall.
    • The same protocol can be used to control Windows, OS X and Linux, but these advantages are not specific program, and VNC itself.

    SSH access

SSH remains the classic of remote access. It would seem, what else can you come up with here? Well, for example, what to do if you have a lot of remote machines? Should I register aliases for each? There are special utilities that allow you to quickly switch between machines. One such manager in Linux is Gnome Connection Manager. The program is very convenient, we highly recommend it. On Windows, AutoPuTTY is used for this purpose - a shell for the popular SSH/Telnet client PuTTY, which can be downloaded from: http://www.r4dius.net/autoputty/. There is a similar SSH connection manager for OS X -Shuttle. For mobile platforms You can use mobile SSH clients - Prompt (iOS) and ConnectBot (Android). You can easily find links and screenshots on the Internet.

    Ammyy Admin (freeware)

Ammyy Admin is another program for remote desktop access. The good thing about the program is that it is absolutely free, completely undemanding of resources (the executable file generally takes up a ridiculous 700 KB), allows you to organize both regular remote access to the desktop and a remote office-style connection, and does not require installing or changing firewall settings. You can find out about the rest of the program's features on the developers' website.

    AnywhereTS (freeware)

Allows you to convert computers to thin clients. The main purpose of this program is not remote access for technical support reasons, as in all previously described programs, although it can also be used for this. AnywareTS allows you to give a second life to old computers that will be used as thin clients - connect to a server that will run programs that are physically impossible to run on old PCs. Detailed information You can find information about this program on the developers' website.

    Remote access in Windows 8

This review would not be complete if we did not consider the capabilities of the OS itself. On the “server” (that is, on the computer to which remote access is planned), you need to perform the following steps:

    • Run SystemPropertiesRemote.exe.
    • Enable the "Allow connections" checkbox remote assistant to this computer."
    • Turn on the “Allow remote connections to this computer” switch and click the “Apply” button.
    • If used energy saving mode, you need to configure your computer so that it never goes into sleep mode.

On your computer, use the Remote Desktop Connection application to connect to a remote computer.

    Rice. 15. Allow remote access

Google Hangouts: screen sharing and video conferencing

As a last resort, you can use a new service from Google - Hangouts. It allows you to host video meetings, during which users can share their screen with each other. If you wish, you can familiarize yourself with this service yourself.

    Instead of a conclusion

There are a lot of programs for remote access. As I hope I have shown, the most familiar tool is not always the most effective. You need to build on the conditions of a specific task, target platforms and other factors. I hope that now I have finally cleared up the whole picture of remote access in your head.
