• Step-by-step instructions for self-correcting a network error without Internet access. Error “Unidentified network without Internet access”... How to fix

In this article we will deal with a fairly common problem when connecting to wi-fi - “unidentified network without Internet access” or “ network without internet access" Starting from the seventh generation of Windows, the operating system itself checks network connections and if problems arise with access to the Internet, it signals an error. The connection error message appears instantly as soon as the operating system detects a problem.

When the message appears - error: " unidentified network without internet access" or " network without internet access» users decide to turn to specialists for help, don’t rush, we’ll try to carry out the work ourselves connection fixes.

The IPv6 protocol is actively popularized in the Russian Federation, but compared to other protocols networks, the number of users whose equipment works with its use is still extremely small. Therefore, in this article we will consider the features of restoring access to the Internet, where the IPv4 protocol is used.

Important: Determine the cause of the malfunction, then solve the problem

The main reasons why problems with Internet access may arise. The most common are the following:

    • problems with the Internet provider;
    • user equipment (router) is configured incorrectly;
    • OS reinstallation
    • network protocols do not work correctly.

    Problems on the provider side

Important: Make sure that you have paid for the services of your Internet provider, because... Due to late payment, access to the network may be limited.

It happens that a few days ago the laptop or computer was working properly, but during the next startup this error appeared. If before this the system functioned properly and there were no complaints about it, it is most likely an error wifi without internet access appeared due to the provider. We strongly recommend that you contact customer support before attempting to do anything yourself. Practice shows that most often an error occurs during technical work, in the absence of a sufficient amount for personal account, or the data line is damaged.

It is quite possible that the support service will answer that everything is working without problems for them now. In this case, you will have to check the network, and if errors are found, try to configure the network yourself. In this case, the Internet provider will offer assistance from a full-time specialist.

Physical connection and problems with it

Important: Check the connection of the provider cable to the router to see if it is connected correctly. The cable must be firmly plugged into the WAN connector until it clicks.

One of the common reasons why doesn't it work connection to the Internet, there is a poor connection of contacts in the connectors, or a damaged network cable. If children or pets live in the house, the likelihood of encountering a similar problem increases significantly. Even if you use a router, do not forget that there is a cable connecting it. Make sure the wiring is intact. A strong bend can provoke a lack of connection. Look at the tightness of the plugs in the sockets, and whether they are actually inserted where they should be.

Have you checked the wiring, plugs and sockets, but the problem persists? In that case, let's move on.

We are looking for a connection problem in equipment: router, computer, laptop

    Router address: Start ˃˃ Services-Windows ˃˃ Command line˃˃ Enter ipconfig.exe

Reboot the router together with the computer

Important: Routers, PCs and laptops may freeze from time to time.

Knowing about the problem of freezing and when an error occurs - " unidentified network without internet access"you need to reboot the equipment and try connect again. I do this: turn off the computer, laptop in the usual way, then I reboot the router (you can simply unplug the network and wait a minute and then plug the plug into the socket), then turn on the PC, and then, once the system has booted, I reboot the PC again.

If the error persists, connect directly to the computer by installing the Internet cable plug into the appropriate socket. If there is no result and the system is again writes without internet access, let's try to check the computer itself.

    Checking your computer settings

Error - " unidentified network"may appear due to an incorrectly configured configuration network connection, or if changes are made to the network settings after reinstalling the OS: problem with the correctness of the IP address

    Verification algorithm:

IPv4 double-click with the left mouse button

    Let's try both options:

    1. Obtain IP address and DNS automatically
    2. Set static (manual) IP and DNS settings
      1. IP address - 192.168.0.4
      2. Default gateway - 192.168.0.1
      3. Subnet mask – 255.255.255.0.
      4. Preferred DNS is 8.8.8.8
      5. Alternative DNS - 8.8.4.4.

If the item responsible for the system independently obtaining settings is not checked, check it and save the changes. Often after this error, an unidentified network without Internet access disappears, and the connection is restored. If not, we continue checking.

How to find out the network address of a computer - IPv4

Right-click on the connection, then go to the “Status” line, select the “Details” menu. The new window will contain several lines - in our case, an IPv4 address is required. The numeric value starting with the numbers 192.168 and onwards is the address of your network.

    IPv4 computer network address

    Another way:

    Start ˃˃ System Tools-Windows ˃˃ Command Prompt ˃˃ Enter ipconfig.exe

    Windows “Command Line”, ipconfig.exe command

If even after this the system refuses to work normally, you will still have to seek help from specialized specialists.

Many Windows users encounter the error " Unidentified network without access to the Internet”, which deprives them of the ability to access any websites. Why does it appear and how to remove it?

Why does the error “Unidentified network without Internet access” occur?

On the network connection icon located on the “Taskbar”, you may experience exclamation mark. When you click on it, a message will appear stating that the network you previously used has become unidentified and has lost access to the Internet. The same will be written in the “Network and Control Center” shared access».

The next time you turn on the computer, the user may encounter a problem connecting to the network: the error “Unidentified network without Internet access” and an exclamation mark on the network icon will appear

Explain the appearance of this type of error on different versions Windows can do this:

    1. Problems on the provider's side. This reason is typical mainly for wired connection(when the cable is connected not to the router, but directly to the computer).
    2. The IPv4 or TCP/IP protocol settings have failed.
    3. Incorrect operation of DCHP, a network protocol that is responsible for automatically obtaining an IP address and other data on a computer.
    4. Unupdated network adapter driver.
    5. Router settings failure.
    6. Incorrectly connected equipment (router and cable or PC and cable) or its physical breakdown.

How to solve the problem with an unidentified network without access to the Internet

The solution depends on the cause of the error. If you don't know why the error occurred, try each step one at a time.

Reboot the PC and router and check the physical connections

All devices freeze from time to time. The problem is solved by restarting them:

If the problem persists, the cable may be:

    • incorrectly connected to the router. The cord should fit tightly into the router socket. Take it out and plug it back in WAN connector until it clicks;
    • damaged. Inspect the cable for damage or bends. The error could have been caused by a severe bend in the wire.

    Problems on the provider side

Make sure that the Internet is paid for. If you do not do this in time, the provider will restrict access to the network. Try connecting the cable to another device or to a router if you have one. If the network remains unidentified, then the problem is with the provider. Call its support service.

Contact your ISP to find out if your lack of internet is due to any problems on their end.

The operator must report whether there are any problems with the Internet on his side and in what time frame they will be resolved. It could be technical work or transmission line damage. If everything is fine on the provider’s side and the problem lies with your equipment, the operator will give recommendations on how to independent decision problems.

    Reconfiguring the router

Making sure that the problem is in the router is quite simple: connect the cable directly to the PC. If the Internet appears, then the problem is in the router. Most likely, its settings were messed up. In this case, reconfigure it.

If you do not remember the password to log into your router account, reset all parameters before the procedure. Let's look at the procedure using the popular TP-Link router as an example:

    1. On the back panel of the device, where the connectors are located, find the word Reset. This button is located inside, not on the surface. To press it, you need to take a small, narrow and long object (a needle, match, etc.) and push it into the hole. Hold the button for a few seconds. So you reset everything previous settings router.

Using a needle, pin, or other object, press the inner Reset button and hold it for a few seconds

    2. Try connecting to the network and setting the router settings again. To do this, open any browser and in it address bar insert 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.
    3. A login page will open. Enter the word admin as your login and password. A page with device settings sections will open.

Enter the word admin as the password

    4. Click on the “Network” block in the list on the left. Select "Dynamic IP" as the connection type. The settings below (“Default Gateway”, “IP Address” and “Subnet Mask”) will automatically display values. Click "Save".

In the “Network” tab, set “Dynamic IP Address” in the drop-down menu

    5. Go to Wireless settings. Set the wireless network to "Enable". In the name field, enter any network name if desired. In the "Mode" drop-down menu, select "11bgn mixed". For the channel and its width, set the value to “Auto” so that the router independently searches for and then uses the least loaded data transmission channel. Check the box next to Enable SSID Broadcast. After all the settings, click on “Save”.

Enter a network name if necessary and set the Channel and Channel Width to Auto

    6. To protect your network from unauthorized access, switch to the “Protection” section wireless mode" Select "WPA-Personal/WPA2-Personal (Recommended)" as the encryption method. Enter the password for the network that was before resetting the settings, or write a new one. The more complex and longer the password, the better for network security. Be sure to remember it, or better yet, write it down so you don’t forget. You don't have to enter anything in the group key update period field. Click on “Save”.

Set the option to “WPA-Personal/WPA2-Personal (Recommended)” and write the password for the network

    7. Open the “Protection” block. Activate it firewall SPI. Set all other options to "Disable".

Enable SPI firewall and disable all other protections

    8. In the " System Tools"In the first section, set the date, time and time zone if necessary if the system determined them incorrectly. Don't forget to save all changes.

If necessary, set the date and time and click "Save"

    9. In the “Password” section, change the data from account so that no network user can access the router settings and change them without your knowledge. Click "Save".

Write the password for your router account

    10. Go to the “Backup and Restore” block. It is recommended to save all changes that have been made so that in the future you can apply them immediately, rather than configuring them again. Click on the “Backup” button. The browser will immediately download the copy file - save it in a convenient place on your PC.

    11. You can restore the settings later in the same block: click on “Select file”, find it in “ Windows Explorer" and open it, click on "Restore".

Find backup copy router settings in the directory in which you saved it earlier, and click on “Open”

    Built-in Windows network troubleshooter

The Windows system has a built-in special tool that allows you to quickly solve Internet problems:

    1. On the Taskbar, find the network icon and right-click on it. Select "Troubleshoot" or "Troubleshoot" depending on your Windows versions. A tool window will open, which will immediately start searching for problems.
    2. After the check is completed, the tool will try to correct the situation itself. If the tool says that the Internet is available, select “I have another problem.”

      Select "I have another problem"

    3. Click on "Use a specific network adapter".

Click on the "Using a specific adapter" issue

    4. Select your adapter from the list. Let's consider further the course of action using the example of a wired Ethernet adapter.

Select your adapter from the list that appears

    5. Wait while the system collects information about your adapter and attempts to resolve the problem.

Wait for your adapter to complete collecting data

    6. The tool may ask you to connect a cable to your computer. If it's already connected, pull it out and push it back in until it clicks. After that, click on “Check if the problem is fixed.”

Reconnect the cable to the PC and click on “Check if the problem is resolved”

    7. The tool will try to resolve the problem again. You will learn about the results in a short report. If the attempt is successful this time, Internet access will be obtained. You may also receive a message indicating that the tool was unable to fix errors. IN in this case the master will notify that Ethernet cable not connected correctly or damaged. If you are sure that you have connected the cord correctly, then the cable most likely needs to be replaced. Perhaps the reason lies elsewhere, so try other ways to solve the problem.

      Click on “Close”

    IPv4 network settings

If the IPv4 protocol settings are lost for some reason, restore them. To open Settings, follow these steps:

    4. If the system asks you to give permission to the Command Prompt to make changes on the device, click “Yes”.

Allow Command Prompt to make changes to your device

    5. In the console editor, write the following command: netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt or netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt. It is best to copy the code using the combination Ctrl keys+C and then paste it into the editor window via combination Ctrl+ V. This way you won't make a mistake. After this, press Enter on your keyboard and wait until the process of restoring the protocol parameters is completed.

At the Command Prompt, enter required code and click on "OK"

    6. Restart your PC and see if the problem is resolved.

    Automatic troubleshooting utility

You can reset TCP/IP settings not only manually, but also automatically using special utility, the developer of which is Microsoft itself. This method is suitable for beginners who cannot yet perform any operations on a PC on their own.

    1. Go to the company's official website. Scroll down the page and click on one of the two Download buttons depending on your version of Windows.

Download executable file wizard on the official Microsoft website

    2. If an error with an unidentified network occurs on another PC, simply transfer the downloaded file to required device using any storage device (flash drive). Run the file. The Troubleshooting Wizard doesn't require installation, so you'll be taken straight to a window to run diagnostics. Click “Next” to have the program first identify the problem and then fix it.

    3. Wait for the troubleshooting process to complete.

Wait for the wizard to finish searching for problems

Restart your PC for all changes to take effect

    Reset and update DHCP configuration

Problems may be due to incorrect DHCP protocol parameters. Resetting and updating the configuration will help. The method is suitable for wired internet. Before the procedure for restoring parameters, you need to make sure that the cause of the “Unidentified network” error is precisely this protocol:

    1. We launch the Command Prompt console using one of the options described in the previous section of this article, depending on what version of Windows you have.
    2. Paste it into the editor or write it yourself short command ipconfig and press Enter to execute it immediately. After that we look at the results. If the text “169.254.[any number].[any number]” is located to the right of the last item “Default Gateway,” the problem most likely lies with the DHCP protocol.

Look at the Default Gateway setting to make sure the problem is with the protocol

    3. To fix the error, you must first open Device Manager. In the “ten” this is the easiest and fastest way to do this: right-click on the “Start” button on the “Taskbar” to open a large menu. In it, simply select the “Device Manager” item.

Select "Device Manager" in context menu“Start” if you have “ten”

    4. If it is “seven”, launch the “Start” menu and through it open the “Control Panel”. Already in her window search bar We print the request “Device Manager”. Call up the dispatcher window by clicking on the item in the results. In Windows 8, you can use the search on the Start screen, similar to launching Command Prompt, described in the previous sections of the article.

Type "Device Manager" in the "Taskbar" search bar

    5. In the manager we find the line “ Network adapters", click on it once with the left button to open the list of adapters. In it we find required adapter. Typically, a wired connection corresponds to an item with the phrase Family Controller at the end of the name. Right-click on it and select “Properties” from the menu.

In the adapter context menu, select the “Properties” option

    6. IN additional window switch to the “Advanced” block. In the list we look for the item “ Network address" In the “Value” field, which is located to the right of the list, write any number of 12 characters using 16-bit numbers and capital letters Latin letters, for example: 123456789ABC.

In the “Value” line, write any number of 12 digits (you can add letters)

    7. Save the changes by clicking on the “OK” button.
    8. Launch the Command Prompt console again as an administrator. In it, first type ipconfig /release and press Enter. After successfully executing this command, write another one - ipconfig /renew - and press Enter again.

In the console, enter two commands: ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew.

    9. Reboot the PC and see if the error disappears.

    Network adapter driver update

Many Internet problems are solved simple update network drivers. However, this requires the Internet. Find an option to connect to another network to download and install the update if available.

    1. Launch “Device Manager” on the screen (use the instructions described in detail in the previous section). Find the item “Network adapters” and open it with a mouse click.
    2. From the list, select the adapter that matches your connection. If the Internet is wireless (with a router), select the line with the word Wi-Fi or Wireless in the title. Right-click on the item and in the list available options select "Update driver".

Click “Update driver” in the adapter’s context menu

    3. In the new window, click on the inscription “Automatic search”.

    4. The system itself will begin searching for an update for the selected adapter. We are waiting for the end of the process.

Wait until the search for updates for the selected network adapter driver finishes

    5. If there are updates available on the network, the OS will download and install them. We are not doing anything.

If the system finds a driver update on the network, it will begin downloading and installing it

    6. When the procedure is completed, you will be notified whether it was successful or not. If not, run the search and installation again.

The system will inform you that the network adapter driver installation was successful.

    7. If there are no updates on the network, the system will report that the most recent ones have already been installed on your device. latest versions network adapter driver.

If updates are not found on the network, the dispatcher will report this

If none of the methods help, most likely you will need the help of a specialist. In this case, you need to call the provider again and have him come to your home.

There are several methods to solve the problem with “Unidentified network without Internet access.” Reboot all equipment and reconnect cables to prevent a simple isolated failure. Call your provider's service to make sure the problem is not on their side. If the reason is in the router, reconfigure it yourself. Use the troubleshooter to reset the settings network protocols or update your network adapter driver.

Before you begin to find out why Wi-Fi or the Internet does not work, you should know (especially for those who have just purchased a Wi-Fi router) that it is not enough to just connect the provider’s cable to the router, you also need to configure it (set up the Internet and Wi-Fi network ). All of the methods described below are valid if Wi-Fi and the Internet were working for you before, and then suddenly stopped or you cannot connect a new device to Wi-Fi. For convenience, I divided the article into two parts, the first is devoted to the inability to connect to a wireless network, the second part will answer your questions if you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, but there is no Internet.

    Cannot connect to Wi-Fi network.

    Reboot the router.

The first thing you need to do if you have problems connecting to a Wi-Fi network is to restart the router. To do this, simply disconnect the power supply from the router and connect it again after a few seconds. After 1-2 minutes. The device will boot, then try connecting to the wireless network again. To avoid such situations in the future, I recommend updating the router firmware (perhaps the manufacturer knows about the problem and fixed it in the new firmware).

Enabling the Wi-Fi module on the laptop.

Check if Wi-Fi is turned on on the laptop, I won’t turn around, all the ways turn on Wi-Fi I described in the article How to turn on Wi-Fi on a laptop .

    Change the wireless network mode.

If you are trying to connect a device (laptop, smartphone) that is more than 5-7 years old, please note that it may not support modern regime Wi-Fi work -n. Therefore, you need to switch the router to an operating mode that is supported by the device or enable mixed mode b/g/n. More details about Wi-Fi operating modes are described. In order to switch the wireless network mode, you need to go to the web interface of the router, go to Wi-Fi settings and select the appropriate mode.

    Removing a duplicate network SSID.

One of possible problems Inability to connect to Wi-Fi is a duplication of the Wi-Fi network (SSID). Suppose you come to your friends, their Wi-Fi network is called “Home”, you successfully connected to it. Time passed and you came across the same network name with other friends or at home. The laptop (this also applies to tablets and smartphones) tries to connect to the network using the previously saved password, but it fails because this name is used New Password. To solve this problem, you need to remove from the list of saved Wi-Fi networks matching network.

To do this, right-click on network icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select "Network and Sharing Center."

After this, you will see a list of saved wireless networks. If you see that the network you are trying to connect to is in this list, you need to remove it from this list. Select the network and click the "Delete" button. After this, you will need to enter a password to connect to the wireless network.

    No Internet via Wi-Fi.

    Internet payment check.

The simplest thing that can happen when the Internet is not working is that it’s time to pay for it or the provider is working on it. To clarify the situation, call your provider and find out if you have a debt for the Internet and whether work is being done on the line.

    Static IP address.

One of the problems with the Internet not working may be that the registered static address does not have the network settings that are necessary. In this case I recommend using automatic retrieval network settings. To do this, you need to go to the Network and Sharing Center. One way to do this is to right-click on network icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select "Network and Sharing Center".

Another way is to use hotkeys + , enter the command ncpa.cpl and press Enter.

It doesn’t matter which method you used, the result will be the same - the Network Connections window will appear on the monitor. Next you need to wireless connection press with two mouse clicks, In the status window that opens, select "Properties" in the properties window "Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)"

    Problem with the router.

The Internet may not work due to a router failure; the simplest thing you can do is reboot it. There are situations when the router resets the Internet settings, in this case you need to connect to it via the web interface and re-enter the Internet settings, in order to experience fewer problems with the router in the future, I recommend updating its firmware.

    Conclusion

In this article, I described all the ways I know to solve problems with Wi-Fi and the Internet. If these methods do not help you, you can describe the problem in detail in the comments and I, together with the readers of this site, will try to help you.

Often for many users personal computers there may be a problem with the correct definition network connection. In this case, the device will notify the owner of any problems that have arisen. There can be 2 notifications: a red cross on the Windows network icon (if there is no link with the device) and an exclamation mark (unknown Windows network without Internet access). This article discusses why problems arise with the second option of alerts and how to resolve them.

    Problems on the provider side

If you did not change the system settings or Wi-Fi router, did not replace the motherboard and network card, did not reinstall Windows - it is unlikely that any problems could arise on your side.

It may well be that everything is fine with your computer and router, the network is there and working correctly, but the provider at the moment does not provide you with Internet.

Firstly, perhaps you simply did not pay for the service - in this case, the “unidentified network without Internet access” notification also appears. Try contacting technical support provider and ask whether the service has been suspended, and whether scheduled or unscheduled maintenance is currently being carried out.
Perhaps there is a simple way to solve the problem and the operator will tell you about it. Otherwise, he will be able to leave a request to check the integrity of your line.

    Obtaining an IP Address

Another reason for the “unidentified network without Internet access” error is conflicts in obtaining an IP address. It is often found in new operating rooms. Windows systems or appears after reconfiguring your home router.

Let's look at the main possible reasons why this could be:

    • The Wi-Fi Router distributes dynamic IP addresses, but a static one is installed on the computer.
    • The router does not have a DHCP server, so it cannot assign a dynamic address to the computer, and this type of receiving is specified in the system.
    • The server or router has security systems and they block your IP as unverified. This is a common occurrence when connected via Wi-Fi. large companies and offices. In this case, you must contact your system administrator.
    • The IP selected in Windows matches another one already active on the network, or is outside the area supported by the router.

    Windows network settings

To resolve network conflicts, you will need to go to Windows settings. To do this, follow the instructions provided:

Depending on the settings of your Wi-Fi router, you will either need to check the boxes next to “Obtain IP automatically” and “Obtain DNS automatically”, or enter the correct ones.
For most routers, the following parameters are suitable:

    • IP – “192.168.0.*” or “192.168.1.*”, where “*” is any number from 2 to 254.
    • Mask – “255.255.255.0”.
    • The default gateway is the address of your Wi-Fi router. It can be found on a label glued to the device body. This is usually "192.168.1.1" or "192.168.0.1".
    • DNS – you also need to enter your router in this field.
    • Alternative DNS – you can leave it blank or enter a popular DNS server from Google– “8.8.8.8”.

After that go back to properties local network and click on the “Disconnect” button. After that, in the “Adapter Settings”, double-click on the Internet icon to turn it back on. You can also disconnect and connect the patch cord that goes to your computer.

    Problems with the DHCP server

If your router distributes addresses via Wi-Fi or a wired connection automatically, there may be some problem with the DCCP server. In this case, resetting and updating the server configuration will help. To do this, open in administrator mode Windows console and enter 2 commands in turn: “ipconfig /release” and “ipconfig /renew”.

Hello friends! In this article we will try to solve another very tricky problem that is observed on Windows 8 when connecting to Wi-Fi router. This connection status is “Restricted”.

I'll probably start by saying that I started noticing the same problem in the comments. People wrote that Windows 8 laptops connect to Wi-Fi, work fine for a while, and then the Internet disappears and the status appears “Limited”. A network icon with yellow exclamation point. Like this:

So questions arose, I gave some recommendations, they did not help. I kept promising to sort out this problem.

My attempts to understand the problem

A question arose, Maxim left it. He wrote that he has Windows 8 and connects to a wireless network (TP-Link router TL-WR841N) For about 10 minutes everything works fine and the connection is lost. Status Limited (as in the screenshot above).

He asked to contact me on Skype. I don't usually do this (I have enough comments :)), but here it was already necessary to deal with this problem!

Maxim and I tried to solve this problem for three days via Skype. (mostly in the evenings). And we almost succeeded :). Everything seemed to be fine, the Internet was working stably, but a few minutes ago Maxim wrote and said that the network had disappeared again. But we have a few more options, let’s check them out :)

I was already thinking about not continuing this article, but I still decided to write and tell you what we tried to do (what we haven’t tried :)) and what helped, though not entirely.

    What we tried to do:

At first I advised just installing Windows 7 :). But this option was not suitable, license and all that.

    1. Change the password and security type in the router settings. Read about it.

    2. Experiment with the wireless network channel. Reading.

    3. Set the correct time zone and time in the router settings.

    4. Updated driver for wireless adapter. I wrote about this in an article.

    5. We tried setting static IP and DNS in the settings of the wireless adapter on the laptop.

    7. We tried setting the “Only g” mode. Read more about changing modes.

And that’s probably not all :)

    What seemed to help:

Maxim found a method in which it was written that you just need to remove the wireless adapter in the device manager and update the hardware configuration. He did not delete anything, but simply right-clicked on the wireless adapter and selected “Update hardware configuration.”

Oddly enough, this helped for a while, but still, after 20 hours of work, the Internet was cut off and the “Limited” status appeared. If this happens again, we will try to remove the adapter.

    We confirm the deletion.

The system will then update the configuration and you may need to reinstall the driver for the wireless adapter. Above there is a link to an article on how to do this. Only when you download new driver, make sure it is for your laptop model and is compatible with Windows 8.

In this particular situation, there is also no need to exclude viruses, problems in some program, system failure, defective device, etc. But there is a problem, which means there must be a solution.

    Windows 8: connection status “Restricted”

Of course, the reasons may be different, so perhaps one of the tips that you will find below will help you, and use it to solve the problem with unstable work Internet in Windows 8 (8.1).

One important point. How do other devices work with your network? If the Internet also does not work on them, sites do not open, the status is No Internet access, then most likely the problem is in the router itself. See these articles:

If other devices work normally, then the problem is still in the laptop, or rather in Windows 8. Try to follow the recommendations that you will find below. And don’t forget to share the result in the comments.

Working tips that help you get rid of the “Restricted” status

Update #1. Install driver 5.100.245.200 for Broadcom

In the comments Vyacheslav (thanks to him!) shared one solution for Broadcom adapters that helped him get rid of this problem. I quote:

For those who have a “Broadcom 802.11n” adapter, the people have found a solution and struggled for a long time. Open the device manager “Broadcom 802.11n” adapter-properties-update drivers-search on this computer-select from those already installed-UNTICK the checkbox only compatible devices- select 5.100.245.200 from the list and bet. Is everything working?

And don’t update the driver; it’s the only driver without a glitch for Windows 8 and 8.1 today, and Microsoft technical support is silent about this.

    More detailed instructions with pictures:

Go to My computer, right-click on an empty area and select Properties. In the new window, on the left click on device Manager.

Select an item “Search for drivers on this computer”.

Uncheck the box Compatible devices only, select from the list Broadcom, then select the driver whose version 5.100.245.200 .

That's all, the driver is installed.

After these steps, the Internet in Windows 8 should work stably. Without “Limited” status.

I don’t have the opportunity to test this method right now, but I hope it will help you. Don't forget to write how it worked, whether it helped or not.

Thanks to Nikolay for the screenshots!

Update #2. Changing the operating mode of the Wi-Fi network.

In the comments there was information that this problem can be solved by changing the operating mode of the wireless network. The problem occurs when devices are connected via mode n.

If in the router settings you set the choice only between modes b/g, or only g, then the problem is solved. And the network on Windows 8 works fine. But I haven't checked it (information from comments).

Everything is written there in detail and shown in screenshots. There shouldn't be any difficulties with this.

But this method has one drawback. Decreased Internet speed over Wi-Fi. Since mode n operates at speeds of up to 300 Mb/s. And g mode – up to 54 Mbit/s.

Update #3. Set the correct region, time and date

In the comments, there was also information that this problem was solved by setting your region, the correct time and date in the router settings.

    Here's the comment itself:

You can change the region in the router settings on the tab Wireless (where you set up Wi-Fi). Just select the region where you are, save the settings and reboot the router.

Change the time and date on the tab System Tools (system settings and the like).

    Thanks Igor for the advice!

Update #4. Enable FIPS compatibility mode

Another working tip appeared in the comments. Igor wrote that the method of enabling FIPS compatibility mode helped him.

NikiNik checked it and was also convinced that the method works. The Internet on Windows 8 began to work stably. NikiNik sent me screenshots so that I could add this method to the article.

    Instructions for enabling FIPS compliance:

Click to view instructions with screenshots

    Let's go to .

Right click on the connection Wireless network and select State.

    Click the button.

And put a tick next to it.

    And press Ok.

Thanks to Igor and Nikolai (NikiNik) for the tips and screenshots!

Update #5. Disable your antivirus (special attention to Dr.Web)

In the comments, Vladimir shared information that helped him complete shutdown Dr.Web antivirus protection. It turns out that Dr.Web was blocking the connection and the Internet was not working.

It is necessary to disable all protection modules. Also, if you determine that the problem is in the antivirus, you can try adding your connection to the exceptions.

If you don’t have Dr.Web, but another antivirus, check anyway, maybe that’s the problem.

    Afterword

I also wanted to ask you, maybe you know how to solve this problem and make sure that the Internet works stably. Share your advice or thoughts in the comments. Thank you from me :)

    All the best!
